Terelle Thomas? We could have had help in the receivers or Dan Connor. Gotta trust Reese but this one's iffy.

I think this pick was made with the intentions of moving Cory Webster to free safety if Johnson or Butler doesn't work out. Madison and or R.W. may get before or after training camp so this maybe insurance. But I still wouldn't went with Dan Conner here.

Dan Connor has mo chance to be anything more than Chase Blackburn in the NFL. His skills are limited but he is a solid player. The big run on second-round WR's has left a ton of other positions available. First round was tackles and corners. Second round, wideouts. We got a good second-round corner in Terrell Thomas. Charles Godfrey was ranked higher by Kiper but Thomas has had all the credentials since high school and only injuries put him this far down. When healthy, and he has been for a while he has been awesome. I cannot imagine what WR any sane Giants fan who knows anything about football was clamoring for as every receiver was taken before us in round 2 in what was a notoriously weak class. In fact, the Redskins loading up at receiver in a weak class was, to me, a good thing. When we pick at the end of round 3 there will still be some really solid players available and the Giants are a second-day team anyway as over 5 of our 11 offensive starters and 4 of our defensive starters were drafted on a Sunday. Give Reese some credit, we stayed put, we did not do anything stupid and we got the best available players at the positions we needed. We got the #1 ranked corner even though I believe Tyrell Johnson is the better player, and we got the corner who was the best available in a deep class when we selected second. Mel Kiper, if you look at his boards, is as intelligent as the average fan so his rankings mean nothing anyway. Thomas is a good player at a big-time program and is a solid pick for 63 overall. Calm down to all you guys who don't know your football very well.

God forbid!  I don't think anything could make me ever give up on the Giants, but having Chad Johnson on the team would make me question the sanity of Jerry Reese and co.   Whatever Shockey's faults may be, you cannot question that he wants to win.  I'm not sure the same thing can be said about Chad.

I didn't say that Terrell Thomas was a bad pick here. IMO the Giants needed more depth at the LB position than at corners even if the Giants move Webster to FS as rumored. Thomas has proven that when he can stay healthy he can be real productive. He plays the pass and the run well which you need a corner to do but he throws himself around too much trying to make that big hit and we don't need a players who's injury prone.

"Calm down to all you guys who don't know your football very well."

Hawk, I usually enjoy your posts and mostly agree with you, but get off your soap box. Your post was fine until you had to add that little jab at the end of it, like everyone else is just plain ignorant. You made your point and I appreciated the extra info you provided to all us "Non College Football Experts". Leave it at that and stop with the insults.

Chad Johnson has too much baggage, the Giants are building through the draft and last draft showed how they could win it all without all the bull.  I would like to see them take a chance on Mario Manningham if he is still around.  Considering Toomer's age and the inconsistency of the receiving corps, I think they need another Plaxico type WR.

We didn't draft Kenny Phillips to ride the bench. He will start at FS...Sammy at SS, Johnson and Butler in the rotation...don't know why they'd move Webster when it appears he made strides as a CB.

I'm surprisingly ok with the pick of Thomas. I won't deny that Dan Connor was basically gift-wrapped for us, and I was upset at first, but the more I think about it, our defensive backfield was our weakness, Dallas and New England burned us badly throughout the regular season last year, and adding depth to an improving look of our secondary can't be a bad thing. There are still alot of good players available and we have 6 picks tomorrow, we'll be alright. Alot of teams reached today for their picks, and I think we're going to find a couple more gifts tomorrow. And after last year, I trust that Reese won't do us wrong.

I was shocked to see Conner down that far and then hoping for him to continiue fallin to the Giants and giants to pick them but they didnt and i was shocked there 2 but yea we could use depth and help in the secondary and in the third round we will prob go LB or WR lik Xavier Adibi, Dan Conner, Beau Bell from LB and WRs lik Mario Mannigham and later on if still avaible Reggie Smith for even more depth in secondary he could play both S and CB which is good. I was also shocked about them pickin Terrell Thomas but i have total confidence in Reese and i asked my friend if he had info on him and he had history of injuries, plays very physical, could also play S and a couple times put in as an LB.

first of all great job by reese in the opening two rounds. our oldest position is the secondary and also probably our thinnest. adding the best saftey in the draft as well as what on paper seems to be a good corner.

for the dan connor inquiries - we will be fine at linebacker this year barring any series injury. with Antonio Pierce, Mathias Kiwanuka, and the addition of Danny Clark who is very serviceable. im sure well take a late round pick and use it for LB, but now isnt the year to jump the gun for a LB, thats the danny clark move.

for all you morons out there wanting Anquan Boldin and Chad Johnson. drop it already. OUR best case scenario wouldnt be either of these WR, it would be more draft picks for shockey. let the brainiac reese draft more of the players he wants and develop them the way they developed last years crop.

These so-called experts love to pull sleepers out of their ascotts in order to show everyone how smart they are.  Mel "big hair, bigger head" Kipper, Jr. is Exhibit A

He must've loved that NFL draft commercial that featured the past few draft classes for the Giants (Jacobs, Boss, Eli and Tyre).  He said that Eli's been overrated--wouldn't have made the draft day trade and just pick Big Ben or Phillip Rivers because they're all equal talent.  He was never a fan of Jacobs (but never hated him either).  Lastly, he unceremoniously said this time last year that the Giants failed to significantly address a single need and gave their overall crop C+.  So you have to know this hack was chomping at the bit to kill the Giants again.  Thus, he repeatedly said that the Giants should've taken T. Johnson when Johnson was finally picked.

More to the question/discussion, Miami plays in the ACC and plays against Florida every year, who was the defending champion.  So picking Johnson was the smart choice ONLY IF Phillips wasn't around.

Next, I was wary of picking Connor because I feel his stats were inflated--what offense athletes play in the Big Ten?  The Giants can stop the run, but can they stop the short pass?  No.  Not with the roster they had from last year (immense pass rush cures a lot of ills).  The USC CB sounds great, but I'm EVEN MORE wary of his shoulder injury problem(s).  Even if he can be a solid contributor as a nickel corner, though, I'm happy.

Lastly, I've made no secret of my desire to let Chokey go.  However, I'm glad that Reece didn't allow the Saints to fleece him.  Now maybe he'll stop bitching about not getting the ball every play or having to block (which is what a TE does by the way).  I was hoping that because there was such a week WR crop that Reece would have an easier time getting some picks.

I believe that maybe teams balked at giving him decent value for Chokey because they were concerned about how he may recover from a broken leg.  Injury scares teams a lot more than someone whose merely a malcontent.  You want further proof?  Take notice of what the 'Skins offered for Chad Johnson

I liked the picks the second rouder as well..you can never have too many talented secondary guys.....and there must be some obvious flaw in dan conner that forced him to slip so far down...we still have picks left to atleast add depth at backer and maybe wideout but with shockey still here you look at offensive weapons consisting of:

Burress Shockey Smith Toomer Boss and Bradshaw and Ward coming out of the backfield.(oh yeah and Tyree but he wont show up until he has too)..thats enough weapons for Eli in the passing game ,..for now atleast toomers old and Burress isnt young but we are set at wideout this year..especially with the week class..although I think the Redskins got the two best talents at wideout and their offense should be dangerous...

Based on the play of Torbor(marginal talent) and Mitchell(whom I still think we should have kept for the money but was never a highly touted player) it appears with A Pierces leadership the linebacking core should be ok.. the massive talent on the D-line allows for certain flexibility pertaining to personel in the line backing core..with Sammy Knight and phillips both good against the run that should help as well....

for day two I look for line backer depth and O-line depth with the possibility of a wideout if Reese has a sleeper in mind at wideout that would be worth the late pick...
