Good morning, gentlemen (I haven't seen a lady on here yet). All in all, a good game by the Wings. Dominated the first, but for some reason took their foot off the gas in the second and allowed the Avs to get back in it. But overall, a lot of positives for the Red Wings.
To every Avs fan claiming that (1) Forsberg didn't play; (2) Theo was sick and (3) they almost came back, let me respond in kind:
(1) Yes, it's possible Forsberg would have made a difference. However, he didn't play, and that's playoff hockey. Keep in mind we had our worst defenseman (stupid Lilja) out there a lot, and when Brad Stuart gets back, Lilja's slow a@@ is back on the bench where he belongs. If Stuart is in, he gets to the puck before Ryan Smyth and prevents the first goal.
(2) As has already been pointed out, if Theo was that sick, he shouldn't have played. And for the people saying that Budaj was awesome, he was good, but not great. The Wings didn't generate a lot of good second and third chances against him.
(3) They didn't come back, and that's all that matters. The Wings showed in that first period what the Avs will have to contend with when they play up to their capabilities. They were skating rings around the Avs all period, and Colorado never got anything going. After the 4th goal, they stopped doing the little things (and if you watched any post-game stuff, every Red Wing player said they played poorly in the 2nd).
Basically, a good game. Colorado was everything I expected and more. I knew they wouldn't go away just because they fell behind early. But I think if the Wings play like they did in the 1st, they will win this series.
