Hope it's just a rough patch, but the fire danger when the Rockies' relievers come into the game goes from moderate to high.

I realize there will be tougn times over the course of any 162 game season, but the talent in this bullpen is far too good to continue to sh*t the bed every time they try to hold leads they are given.

Yep, 7 inning games would be great right now. It sure does get frustrating when it is a nightly collapse. I don't know what else to say right now.

Actually the "fire danger" was declared last lear until Clint had seen enough and demoted Brian "gas can" Fuentes. He can now be added to the list which includes...

Mitch Williams

Eric Gagne

Brad Lidge

and a few more which I can't remember. Hopefully Brian can turn it around like Lidge has this year.

I think they actually have three guys with closer stuff.   Any of them could be excelent closers if they were able to show consistency---

Manny Corpas

Brian Fuentes

Taylor Bucholz

It's a little too early to scrap the bullpen plan that worked so well last September, but they went on a great run last year when Fuentes went to the eighth inning and Corpas became the closer.  Maybe another shakeup would do the trick if the status quo doesnt get better soon.

C'mon Rox !!!!

I don't care what it takes, but at the moment our bullpen is overworked.  They have not recovered from their 22 inning win and until they get a little rest, we can expect to see more of these blown leads late in the game.

Gumby is right in the fact that our bullpen has way too much talent to continue to perform the way that they are, but still they must get their rest if they are going to be able to regain their dominance.

We either need to have a starter go all 9 innings or bring up 1 or 2 pitchers to pitch out of the bullpen and provide some relief to the overworked bullpen.  All of us should know that the Rockies are capable of pulling out of this funk, so let's not lose our faith in Hurdle and the Rockies' players and let's continue to cheer our team on to victory.

GO ROCKIES!!!

I've never lost faith in Hurdle. It's just the days of a starter going more than 6 innings are gone just like the days of a 4 man rotation. So much emphasis is put on the bullpen it has become a joke. Plus when grade schoolers are being taught more than just a fastball so daddy's son can become what he wasn't, it's terrible. Look at the careers of Mark Prior and Kerry Wood. 2 great pitchers who have had so much arm trouble. Sorry for the rant. I guess I live for the old days. The Rocks do need to call up some help from the Springs. It is way too early to give up hope yet.

Another call to the pen tonight.  More innings for Bucholtz, Corpas, and Fuentes.  At least there is a day off coming up.

Last year when the Rox went through this, Hurdle swapped Corpas and Fuentes.  Maybe time to swap them back.

He swapped them back and got a good result, but I don't know if Fuentes is the long term answer to closer this year.  There's a reason he was moved out of the closer role last year and I'm pretty sure it had to do with the fact that Fuentes blew 4 saves in a row as well.  I love his stuff, but when he can't find the strike zone it's a nightmare.  I really do hope that this break helps Corpas and he finds out what's not working with his mechanics so he can be the same dominant closer we saw at the end of last year because I think he has a good chance at becoming a really great closer if he does.
