If Stastny isn't strong enough to stay on his skates after that tap, he doesn't belong out there!

I agree, dog. It's gonna be a good one!

It WAS a great game...I'm just glad the Wings held on.  For a while there, I was flashing back to the Nashville series.  Oh, well, gotta make it interesting, I guess.

One down, 11 to go!

And if that was a cross-check then the only guys that will be on the ice are the goalies.

I look forward to the next couple weeks.

Now THAT could make for some interesting hockey!

I think these 2 teams made those positions interesting enough a couple years ago.  Tell me you wouldn't love to see that kind of intensity come out of this series.

REDWINGS WIN!!!! I know im a little late but was eating dinner when it happened. What a save by Ossie with 8 sec left. The wings defense better step it up next game. As it looks like they fell asleep 2nd period of this game.

Holmstrom getting hurt was probly the best thing that could have happened for Franzen. With Homie out Johan had to learn his game. The fact that both of them can do it well is great for the wings.

GO REDWINGS!!!!!!! OZZIE FOR MVP!!!!!! WINGS IN 5!!!!!!

dog -- I think GoPats would agree with you!

Yeah, I'm hoping that we do see the same kind of intensity for the series. I've always enjoyed watching the Wings and the Avs go at it. They've had some of the classic playoff series in the last few years. You are absolutely right.

obviously it's going to be a different series than past ones.  there's no claude lemieux...lol.

it should be a good series, but Jose Theodore sort of proved me right tonight.  i don't know much about Peter Budaj though.  he played good tonight, but can he do that again if he's called upon?

Those were great series, but I think the hitting and intensity in this series will be a bit more calculated.  I think these are 2 teams with a lot of hockey smarts that know that going for the big hit instead of making the smart play is not what their teams need.  One of the reasons that the Avalanche got out of the first round was that every now and again the Wild were over anxious about making those crowd pleasing hits and not so concerned about making solid defensive plays.  There's a ton of players from both teams that can score goals so I don't necessarily think it's going to be a low scoring series, but both teams (now that the Avs have Foote back) have solid defenseman that won't let this thing get out of hand.

Before we start crucifying Theodore let's look at a few things.

First, no goalie on the planet (including your beloved Osgood) would have stopped the redirect by Franzen.

Second, Cleary's goal was a complete and utter fluke.  Don't even argue that because you all know its true.  Yes it was my plan to put backspin on it, shoot it straight up in the air 20 feet, have it land next to Theodore, and bounce in the goal.  Right.

Third, Theodore was in street clothes after the 2nd and receiving medical treatment, so don't give me this oh we chased him out crap.  Besides you all better have some respect for Budaj now.

The Avs are not pushovers and you guys got the lucky bounce in Game 1.  We'll get it in Game 2.

Take away the 1st period and we kicked your guys' butts for 40 minutes.

ninerboy -- I knew Budaj was good, and he showed it tonight.

Is Theodore OK? Quenneville did pull the trigger pretty quick, so he may have seen something we didn't.

A little luck here and there can sometimes be the difference for a team, especially at this time of year. On the goal by Cleary, I couldn't even see the puck until it rolled in the goal. And the tap by Franzen was a thing of beauty.

On to Game Two on Saturday!

ninerboy -- I just read the recap of the game.

If Theodore was sick enough to have to leave the game, why did Colorado start him? Ah, well, at least they know now they can rely on Budaj if the need arises again.

Verses reports that Foresberg is scratched due to a Groin injury!!!

Oh great I can alrdy hear the excuses now.....No excuses, but I would have liked to see Foppa out there tonight. I'm not sure why he could play every game against Minnesota, including a back to back, and then not start after almost a week off. He adds a different dimension to the Avs offense and is always a magnate for the opponents defense which helps free up the rest of the forwards for scoring chances.  I can only hope that he's that much better on Saturday.

Foppa would have helped yes, but two of the goals by the wings were lucky. No i am not making excuses bc we had plenty of chances to tie it up (Liles shot w/8.0 left was horrible). Budaj came in and played great. We need to buckle down and get the one on Saturday, bc the can will be rocking. Great first game!!!!

Wings in 6. the avs might pull out some games but they arent physical enough to knock the wings off of their puck possesion game. the avs and wings play very similar styles. the wings obviously have a talent advantage. and if you say anything otherwise you need to take the rose colored glasses off. the avs made a few desparation signings at the end of the season to get old players back in a colorado uniform and hopefully give them a last hurrah to push them to the cup. i personally wouldnt rest my hopes on those guys. yes the wings signed d-mac but it was a see what happens if he plays great if he doesnt oh well kind of signing. i dont expect a playoff meltdown against the avs. the wings know what they are getting when it comes to colorado and i doubt it if they will surprise them.
