I wouldn't mind having Bonds if he didn't have the attitude or the "black clouds" over his head. Its just plain stupid to even want him here in Baltimore.

I say HELL NO to Barry in Baltimore.

Sess - Your "throwing ideas back" included insulting my inteligence for even suggesting that Bonds could add something to the Orioles, rather than only taking away.

Sess should do that because even wanting Bonds here is stupid. We are a rebuilding team, so that throws the idea out the window. We are not trying to compete, so again, the Bonds idea out the window, we don't care if the seats are completely empty because of no Bonds, the team will still be playing. Bonds brings nothing but a bad omen to the orioles franchise if he came here, so we can please finally trash the dumb opinion of bringing him here.

Yeah, and? That's what happens when you come on other team's boards and spouting off stupid ideas and trying to convince people that you're right. I've made several bad suggestions on this board since I've been here and believe me, people tell you how stupid it is if the shoe fits. You should have been here when I brought up the thought of using aluminum bats in the majors. Many people told me how stupid that idea was and they were right, so if you can't handle being called out on having a stupid idea, then what are you doing here? You're obviously not a stupid person, but at this particular time, you suggested an idea that was stupid IMO, so there ya go. "Get a life cracks" are nothing, I've heard much worse than that.

Furthermore, Sammy Sosa was supposed to bring fans into the seats too. So was Miguel Tejada, but not even he was enough to bring fans out to the park to watch us lose every night. The only way to get those dormant O's fans back to the Yards is if we are WINNING and they see that we are serious about getting back to the Oriole way. They will come, but they won't fall for this cheap one player stuff anymore. They've seen it all before. It will not bring fans to the park, or at least not enough to really make a difference. There is much more negative to Barry Bonds than positive and all signing him would do would get those "Free the Birds" people back in the stands. That will not happen here anymore and Barry Bonds will never be an Oriole or a Ray for that matter. After what he has brought on himself, he shouldn't be playing baseball and he deserves to be sitting at home wishing someone wanted him.

But Sosa and Tejada are not like having a lottery ticket in your hands.  If you caught a homerun ball from Bonds, you could sell it.  At any given time, it would be the most recent record breaker.  In fact, it could always be his last.  If you owned Hank Aaron's 755th, that would be pretty cool.  Now Bonds is no Hank Aaron, but believe me...people would come.  People would watch.  After Bonds broke the record last year, people still watched and came to the games.  I still think that the only REALLY valid reason that it would be a bad move is that so many people hate Bonds.  If that weren't true, he'd have 5 teams or more wanting his services.  Many teams that build for the future alos rent players to get them there.  If they were bringing up some prospect and playing him instead, then I could see the reasoning.

Is there anyone out there that will admit that the only LEGIT reason the O's shouldn't bring him in is because of the fans animosity?  Please, someone?  Anyone?

P.S.  I share your sentiments on Mr. Bonds' earning what he's getting.  If he would have just come clean from the get go...owned up to what he did, he would have received a better reception.  Lying and making a big deal about it just hurts himself.  No one really believes that he didn't cheat.  Although I don't think he was still cheating the last couple of years.  Heck, he had the whole world including the government watching his every move.  He still put up incredible numbers when off the juice so those that bust his numbers so hard are crazy too.  I don't like him, but I just never got the complete hatred for him.  Many people have done worse but don't evoke anywhere near the animosity that Bonds does.

It wouldn't last. Besides, San Francisco is the only place that loves Bonds, so of course they would continue to show up. People hate Bonds because he has never been friendly with the public and his overall demeanor, attitude towards teammates and that he broke the two most sought after records in baseball history because he cheated. That is a direct attack on the game. I dislike Mark McGuire just as much, but let's face it, when you cheat and end up breaking some huge records, of course people are going to hate you. Bonds failed an amphetamines test and I at least believe that he was still using HGH. Without it, I don't believe he would still be in the condition he is in at his age. Point is, I don't trust the guy. He is a liar, a cheater and one of the most selfish people ever to play the game.

Have you ever really looked at his numbers? He put up his best power numbers from the ages of 35-39 and just like in the case of McGuire and Clemens, you don't hit your "prime" in your late 30's to early 40's without some help. 100% chance Bonds cheated since the year 2000. That's just the kind of person he is and there's no room for that in Baltimore. The reason for the extra malice is because of his attitude and the kind of person he has demonstrated himself to be outside of those numbers. It's all cumulative.

I do not even consider this a serious topic of discussion.

The thought of signing Bonds or Thomas is absolutely ridiculous for this team.  Signings like these are the exact reason the Orioles haven't been to the playoffs since 1997.  The Orioles  (Angelos) don't need revenue.  He got an absolute sweetheart deal from MLB with the Nationals and is making more money than most teams even if they only get 10,000 fans at each game.  He is raping the Nationals with the MASN deal.

Does anyone on here that said they should sign Bonds or Thomas really think the Orioles are going to compete for the Pennant?  There is no reason to sign anymore retreads, we are rebuilding, and for once so far, doing it right.   They need to finish what they have started and trade Brian Roberts and get what they can for him now, his value won't be any higher.  He is not part of the long term plan.  I love Roberts, but he does not want to be part of a rebuilding team, and building around a 30 year old 2B isn't the answer.  The best move they have made in the last decade was realeasing Gibbons!

I like what they are doing and I hope Angelos lets McPhail complete the job.  They are moving in the right direction.

The Orioles are rebuilding in the minors. With the exception of Adam Jones and a few pitchers like Randor Bierd and Dennis Sarfate, we have no young players at the MLB level. The rebuilding stage at the higher levels are all pitching prospects not hitters (Scott Moore sometime this year, Mike Costanzo, Matt Weiters and Nolan Reimold in a year or two). We have an anemic Luis Hernandez at SS with no one close (2-3 years maybe). Barry Bonds is a .480 OBP hitter and would offer immediate credibility to our line-up. Kevin Millar, Ramon Hernandez, Melvin Mora and Jay Payton are nearing the end of their careers too. So Bonds and Frank Thomas fit right in with our AGING TEAM. Anyone who thinks Thomas and Bonds wouldn't put more fans in the seats at every AL park doesn't understand the business of baseball. The Orioles were averaging just 17,844 fans per game before the Yankees came to town. And we are winning club right now. What happens when we hit a skid or two? But the O's don't play the Yankees and Red Sox every game either. There are those games against the Athletics, Rangers, Royals Rays. And, at a base salary plus incentives, these guys would be playing on our terms. You don't think Nick Markakis, Brian Roberts, Luke Scott and many others would be in awe by playing with the greatest homerun hitter of all time? Or the pitchers knowing they have the most prolific hitter who still gets on base nearly 50% hitting in their line-up? Major leaguers love to play with their idols and Bonds surprisingly only to ignorant fan bases, is a major idol throughout the MLB. What Orioles player put those type of numbers up the past two years? In just 340 and 367 AB's. What kind of numbers would he put up in 500+ at bats? How about Markakis with Bonds protecting him? Bonds would be a great acquisition for the short term (1 year contract at a time). It would give the Orioles team a boost in revenue, and in the line-up. And maybe, just maybe, a boost in the AL East standings.

Bonds had 28 HR, 66 RBI, 132 Walks, .4801 On Base Percentage and a .5647 Slugging Pct in just 340 At Bats during 2007. In 2006 he had 28 HR, 66 RBI, 132 Walks, .4801 On Base Percentage and a .5647 Slugging Percentage

Thomas's Numbers:

2007 531-63-147-26-95-81-0-.2768-.3766-.4802

2006 466-77-126-39-114-81-0-.2704-.3810-.5451
