Having players stepping up and assuming the role of real leaders on the field, I think, will be one of the biggest deciding factors of how this season goes. You could ask 100 people the same question (Who were the offensive and defensive leaders of the 2006 team?) and get 100 of the exact same answers (Jared Zabransky and Korey Hall). You can only select one player here, but who do you see as being this year's offensive and defensive leaders (not necessairly captains, although that usually follows suit)? Also, I only have 8 slots here and had to leave some names out that could easily be included, like Vinny Perretta.

Perfect... This is one of the biggest reasons why I think last year wasn't any more successful then it was. We effectively had no REAL on-the-field leaders. Tharp and IJ were both too low key to be effective leaders. Childs was great, but again, very low key personality.
For next year, we really, REALLY need someone that can step up and be a key leader. Someone who has earned the respect of those around him. Someone who leads by example, but is also capable of rallying the troops around him or around the team.
Defense it could be Gingg or Johnson. Maybe Williams. Not Wilson - very good corner, but again, too low key.
Offense it could be Hamden if gets the starting job. Being an on-the-field leader would suit his personality as well. IJ, Brockel, and Moore all too low key to be effective leaders on the field. Although with a year under his belt, Moore could be a great leader in '09 and beyond.
I voted Moore, but only because I'm thinking long-term (for the next 4 years).

I noticed twords the end of the season that Kyle Wilson seemed to become more vocal and I look for him and Winterswyk to be the leaders of the defense. As far as the offense goes Ian and Jeremy Childs need to be more vocal and light a fire under the rest of the offense's arsses. The best thing they can do is show nothing but confidence in the younger players, mainly Kellen Moore which they have already said he has done a good job in gaining the respect of the veterans.

I'm going with Mike Williams. This season is going to be one based on toughness, and I think Mike is the toughest player on that list. Is the team tough enough to play Division 1 football hard even though so many are young. A defense that never could completely plug the holes that were being taken advantage of. An O-line that nobody is sure about. A QB (whoever it may be), who will have more question marks surrounding him than Tharp had last year. The tough, experienced players are going to have to build up the young ones. Fill in the holes that are left behind. And get past the demons from last season.

Right there with ya BA. But Spaded has a good point. Winterswyk wasn't on the list. I think he is going to surprise some people this year. Wes, I think Williams will be a close second. He is pretty dedicated.
I think Moore will get the nod at QB providing he can put it all together through fall ball.
Whoever it is will have to re-install that drive and determination lost last year. In other words "killer instinct". Last year they just seemed to make kind of an attempt.
GO BRONCOS !!!!

For me, a leader is someone who can rally the troops. To many of the players last year were way too low key to be the kind of leader that can rally the troops. I like Ian, I like Childs, but both let their play do the talking on the field. That's good, but that's not a leader (IMO).
Winterswyk and Williams could both be good leaders. We'll see.
Whoever the QB is, he needs to be a good leader!
Zabransky and Hall were great leaders when they were playing! Both had a fire and intensity that you could feel on the field. Both were vocal in rallying the troops. Last year we didn't see any leaders like that. Hopefully, this year we will.

Ok before i change my pick for leader of the defense, I record every BSU game , and have for the past 3 years(excluding the ones on VS) also any game that might be good, that way I still have football to watch when the season is over. But I had a flashback to the fiesta bowl and it was then when i realized who the leader on defense will be. When we were headed into overtime there was a true freshman on the sidelines telling the guys who wsere playing & | |
