It's all about the money.

Most teams are doing it for the money, unless you have that gauntlet ooc schedule with Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech every year.  That at least gives you 10 wins and a no show in your CCG.  Then when you get passed over you can talk about how good you could have been, and play the WAC champ in a bowl.  That's the formula for easy $millions.

Cha-ching!  Woof! Woof!

More on the Florida vs. Syracuse issue:

I have heard from several Gator fans in past debates that this is the reason that Florida has not left the state for an OOC game since 1991.  Some claimed that Syracuse refused to return to UF after the Orange downed the Gators 38-21 in 1991.

I have found no evidence supporting any scheduled game with Florida that Syracuse backed out of.  Someone suggested that the front half of the series had already been played in 1984 when Florida won 16-0 in The Swamp.  I'm not sure that is the case, but if anyone has more info please pass it along.

Regardless, 1991 was the last time that Florida played a regular season non-conference game outside of their state.

Not that I care for them at all, but one thing you can say for Florida playing in state OOC, most years playing FSU and/or Miami is plenty good enough.  I would even venture to say it would be a more hostile environment than most places they could go, unless they came to C-bus.  But since 1991? they could get out a little more...

Georgia Southern can't be too far away.

Sure, Miami sucks now, but they didn't when the arrangement was made.   The point is putting teams on the schedule when they are strong.  Yeah, K-state has had a few upsets, but year over year they're a second tier big 12 team.  And yes, Purdue is a second tier Big 10 team.  Every conference has their stronger, average and weaker teams.

oneywan,

You are one funny dude.  You have the nerve to talk about someone else's OOC.  You, the team that has played a total of 57 BCS opponents in your history away from the Horseshoe as opposed to 107 in someone else's history.  You of Youngstown State and Akron fame?  At least we play the MAC champs not their last place teams.

Yeah some teams play against the WAC Champs....but then again they win.  But you play who they give you to play.  You want to compare our record vs your conference to yours against ours?  Or how about just heads up?

When you know what you are talking about come back and discuss it in a logical manner.

bigdawgs...hurry up and jump on google and look up stats and then come back and post them...that way you can claim you know what you are talking about.....who really cares what the ooc schedule is.    ga is the powerhouse this yr..i say good luck...worry about making it to the title game.  oh...and don't forget to stretch that hammy running around in the backyard.

What is your problem bucksny?  Someone takes a slam and then someone responds and  you can't take it.  Who said anything about UGA being a powerhouse this year?  Who said anything about a title game?  The thread is about teams cancelling OOC games.  I don't believe I even mentioned the Buckeyes until the previous post and then only in response to some dumb remarks.  In fact, I think you will find most reasonable Buckeye fans know that I have been quite objective about the Scarlet and Gray.  That does not mean that I will not respond when someone hurls inaccurate crap around.

If you're looking for teams that've backed out of games, I'd say the best place to start would be those BCS opponents who had been scheduled to play Boise State and Hawaii over the past few years.  Like the up and coming Big East squads, both have had a number of teams drop them from their schedule.

Remember, a non-BCS program = a "nothing to gain" game for BCS teams.

Texas backed out against traveling to Hawaii a couple years back.

Alabama backed out against PSU and we shall be finally playing in 2010

BigDawgs-

Georgia Southern who?  Is that a Televangelist school?

Hey, you had a great payout last year, didn't you?  Just showing how your formula for making money works.  SECRETS EXPOSED!

The whole schedule thing is like those blowup punching bags my kid has with Batman on it.  You can punch it, but it's going to come back to hit you.

Go to the first page of this thread, I don't think there were five posts before a uga fan tried to knock OSU's schedule.  It's just the punching bag coming back.

I don't know about your numbers there, but counting a game in Atlanta as an away game is a little far fetched, don't ya think?
