I'm a huge fan of the tribe and their new "special events"/sunday uniforms which are meant to look old-school. The best part is the hat.
However, I wish the Tribe went back to the hats they had in the mid 90's up to several years ago with the huge Chief Wahoo on them and the darker Navy blue. The Wahoo hats the last couple of years don't look right. The Tiny Wahoo looks deformed because it's kinda 3-D.
Well living in Seattle, one would think that to find Indians apparrel would be difficult. It is not though, there is Tribe gear everywhere. I personly do not mind the Navy hat with the I on it, although growing up in Cleveland, I have a soft spot for the Wahoo type. As a matter of fact, I have 2 Indians hats. One having the old style C on it, and the other is the navy blue with that great big Chief Wahoo on it.
To me, it is the cost of a new look, I love the Tribe and regardless what hat they wear, I will be somewhere in Seattle, being my normal Featherheaded Self.
I love the new Tribe hat with the C on it. Ialready have one to go along with my 5 other tribe hats. Got no problem getting them over here in Albany, NY. I like the new unis as well, although they make CC look chubby ;) Seattle! isnt that official Sizemore country!!! Go Tribe, King Carmona on the mound tomorrow, hope he has his bag of tricks with him!
Its good to hear it's easy to get Tribe gear in your neck of the woods. I wish it was as easy here in Pennsyltuckey. All the store are have Spankees gear and Phillie gear.
you are such a tool. You submitted a warning for me commenting on your racist mascot? This thread started with the discussion on how you would like to see your racist mascot Chief Wahoo back on your throw-back hats. How is my comment off-topic??? Just because you start a message board thread doesnt mean you can police what people say on it.
You wonder why the Indians don't use the Wahoo logo from the mid-90's? hmm, let's see. A giant red-faced Indian with a cartoon-like grin from ear to ear? If you still can't figure out why, go ahead and do a search on google about Chief Wahoo being a racist mascot and maybe you'll find some answers. Me commenting about the logo you want to see brought back being racist isn't some crazy, off-topic notion. There's lots of opinions of it out there.
My personal fav is the old 1940's Chief Wahoo, with the orange like face.
But the Indians like a lot of colleges are trying to be more politically correct and stear away from the Native American image and simply use the script 'I" or the block "C" for the logo.
I think this sux but what can ya do.
I'm actually pulling for the Browns Elf guy. That needs brought back. To bad the Browns have to wait till like 2010 to make any changes to the uniforms.
MPSVSU, give me a break already! The tool certainly isn't buckeye, its you! I think it is pretty funny that he warned you. The Cleveland Indians mascot/logo is about as racist as any other logo that is put on a hat. It is a smiling cartoon character of a American Indian. Personally, if I were an American Indian, it woud be the team I would cheer for because of the logo. It's not like the Indian has a weapon or something else that would make it look like the American Indians were bad people. American Indians use to paint their face. I am Polish, have you ever made a Polish joke before or have you ever laughed at one? I here them all of the time. I either laugh or don't give others the satisfaction.
First. lets start with a couple of your teams. If we want to get technical, maybe the Tigers and the Lions at the zoo should go on strike. I mean, they are Detroits mascot. Do you think they like being mascots? Did you ever ask the Tigers and the Lions in the zoo if it were ok with the idea to put them on your uniforms? But lets go a outside of your beloved Michigan. How about teams like NE Patriots. Should they be taken off of helmets. I mean didn't they massacre Indians? Or how about the Dallas Cowboys? Didn't they massace Indians? Or how about them Oakland Raiders? Heck all they did was rape, steal, and massacre other people. How come you aren't complaining about these mascots? Trust me, I could go on and on!
Enough is enough already. I can see if they were making fun of the Indian. I could see if there was a reference to being racist. But there isn't any of that! I am sick of people like you. . If you are going to be so political correct, then be completely politically correct or don't make others feel like they are racist for liking a stupid old hat!
geez, here we go, I can't believe I have to explain this, but, here goes...
I think it's pretty idiotic you are by bringing up Lions and Tigers. I'm not even going to dignify your comparison of racism of another culture to a couple of animals.
I see you're point about the Patriots, Raiders, and Cowboys. But they not only killed each other, but they also killed lots of Indians, basically wiping them off the map of our country! The fact that we name teams after Indians today makes me, as a white person, embarrassed of my heritage. It very much comes off like mockery.
My intention was in no way to make others feel like racists. All i'm saying is I think the Indian mascot is racist. It is my opinion and I think you and your "I am sick of people like you" comments should check yourself.
I can see how you would read my comments and think 'what a hippie,' but I would encourage you to go to google and read some articles about it. I'm sure there are writers out there that are better at making this point than I am.
OK, so I thought I'd hit up some Wikipedia (which could lie as easy as any "google" article search, so keep that in mind) to get a little history on the Indians nickname.
I've noticed the diminishing size of Chief Wahoo on the hats. That's ok with me. I understand the sensitive nature of the issue.
The only real problem I have with this whole deal is that the number of protesters outside of the Jake seems to fluctuate with the success/popularity of the club. With that being said...here's the history as Wikipedia sees it...
Legend has it that the team honored Louis Sockalexis when it assumed its current name in 1915. The spectacular Sockalexis, a Native American, had played in Cleveland 1897-99.
Research indicates that this legend is mostly untrue. When the "Naps" sent longtime leader Napoleon Lajoie to the Athletics" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakland_Athletics">Philadelphia Athletics at the end of the 1914 season, owner Charles Somers asked the local newspapers to come up with a new name for the team. They chose "Indians" as a play on the name of the Braves" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlanta_Braves">Boston Braves, then known as the "Miracle Braves" after going from last place on July 4 to a sweep in the 1914 World Series. Proponents of the name acknowledged that the Cleveland Spiders of the National League had sometimes been informally called the "Indians" during Sockalexis' short career there, a fact which merely reinforced the new name
If you like the 2D wahoo, why not just go back to the '51-'57 hats which featured a slightly smaller 2D wahoo with a red 3D "C" around/over it? I have one. It's sweet.
