OK guys, this is just for fun since today's an off day. I was on a thread a while back talking about all the moves the Orioles could've made BM (Before MacPhail) and had a pretty solid team.  I'm working on filling out a roster just based on the blunders of the organization the previous 5 years (or so).  The idea is to only have players on the roster that we currently have or had deals on the table, or were reportedly very close to.

The moves that I remember we could've had are Miguel Tejada to Astros for Roy Oswalt, Daniel Cabrera to the Rangers for Mark Teixeira, NOT John Maine to the Mets, Grabbed AJ Burnett and Mike Lowell from the Marlins (anyone remember who/what they wanted)?  Now, of course, any players involved in those trades from our end would be removed, so this whole thing's "realism" hinges on finding out who we were supposed to send to Florida...

I'll reply with the roster I have so far.

Lineup:

  1. 2B Brian Roberts
  2. LF Melvin Mora
  3. RF Nick Markakis
  4. 1B Mark Teixeira
  5.  3B Mike Lowell
  6. DH Aubrey Huff
  7. C Ramon Hernandez
  8. SS ????????????
  9. CF Corey Patterson

Rotation:

  1. Erik Bedard
  2. Roy Oswalt
  3. AJ Burnett
  4. John Maine
  5. Steve Trachsel/Adam Loewen

Bullpen:

  1. LR Jeremy Guthrie
  2. LR Brian Burress
  3. MR Jim Johnson
  4. MR  ?????????
  5. SU Jamie Walker
  6. SU Chad Bradford
  7. C   ???????????

Bench:

  1. 1B/DH Kevin Millar
  2. IF Freddie Bynum
  3. OF Jay Payton
  4. C ????????

Obviously, the LF situation could be better than Melvin Mora.  There are notable holes at closer and short, and I left one middle reliever and the backup catcher to "whoever we might've grabbed."  Does anyone have anything to add?  Did I keep any players we'd have had to send to the Marlins?

Well, I found it.

That stumbling block caused the proposed trade to cool slightly, but sources said they still expect the deal to be completed. The deal now on the table would send Burnett and Lowell to the Orioles in exchange for reliever Jorge Julio, outfielder Larry Bigbie, minor-league pitcher Hayden Penn and possibly reliever Steve Kline.

That was from Clark Spencer, back in the day.  Not only would that deal have been pretty sweet (seriously, who would we have missed?) it would have removed Jorge Julio from the equation and killed the John Maine for Kris Benson deal, perhaps.  Wow.

That would be one killer roster. And if the Tejada and Cabrera deals went down and we showed how dangerous our lineup and rotation would be, maybe Carlos Lee would have signed with us, completely eliminating Mora from the equation and resulting in him not getting that rediculous contract. With all that, we might have been the team to pull off the trade for Uribe.

I believe the SS would be Adam Everrett as part of that Tejada to the Astros deal.

Luvvin the post.

I am new to cbs.sportsline and all of the comments you guys make on here really interests me. So I have decided to join.

I 100% agree that the moves made in the past have been completely idiotic. There are some moves that we should obviously have made and some others we wish that we could go back and change.

However, if we would of, should of, could of who is to say that we would have been able to draft as high and have prospects such as Markakis and Loewen? So if we did make these changes some of the guys above would not be here.

I went to Yankess and O's series and these young guys are a lot of fun to watch.

Welcome!  I agree with you that these prospects may be better in the long run than all those moves above.  This was just all for fun, though.  Idle speculation on the could-have-beens.  I'm loving the direction the team is taking.

What year was Markakis drafted?  I think we got him before all the deals I'm talking about would've brought us to that roster.  Now you've got me thinking, though.  That rosetr would look a good deal weaker if you had to pull him off it.

Thank you for the kind welcome. Markakis I believe was drafted in 2003 or 2004. I know that he was 7th overall. Much earlier than when we SHOULD OF signed Carlos Lee. Didn't we settle for Jay Payton that off season?

I am so impressed with Markakis' ability to work the count. A stat that is being missed by some is he is in the top 5 in walks; maybe even top 2. That is exactly what you want a #3 hitter to do.

Speaking of young talent... has anyone watched matt Weiters play yet???????? I live in Frederick and have the luxury of watching the single A team the keys. You have to watch this guy he is an offensive juugernut!!!! After watching him and reading his stats I hope they move him to first base to extend his career. WOW!!!!!!
