Blitz,

You made some nice comments, and i enjoy talking to people who know their stuff.

With the "collapse" i'm not contradicting, we played how many games against the Phillies in September? How many games did we play against lesser teams such as the Nats and Marlins? We played 6 games agianst those two teams in the last week and went something to the lines of 1-5/2-4.  Think if you went 5-1, we would have already had our magic number at 0 by the begining of the Marlins series? That's what i meant, and my point stands.

With Rollins, I wasn't saying the guy was injury prone or anything, i'm just saying he's been out of your lineup, and it hurts.  I think you're wrong with Victorino, he's a potential gold glover in the OF, and the guy hits around .300 can steal 30-40 bases and has 15-20hr potential, especially in that sandbox.  Having a guy li ke that who's so underrated, well you can start appreciating him a little more after that *triple* by Wright last night.  He always seems to catch everythign hit at him when it's against the Mets.

And as "good" as Eaton has looking to you, his ERA is still at 4.12, so maybe you can trade him now before the stuff hits the fan.

Philly offense still scored 4 runs, it's not like they were shutout.  And i think you have to give part of the "offday" to the fact that one of the best pitchers in baseball was pitching.

With Hamels, he got jobbed by his relievers. Yeah he gave up 4ER, but that's because he had his inherited runners score.  it's the same situational stat line Santana had. His line was way better than the 7+IP, 3er, 10k would indicate, because Aaron Heilman has to give up a big hit per appearance now.

Johan Santana putting up 10 K's + David Wright spraying hits all over the field + Billy Wagner shutting the door = Mets NL East Winners.

Yes, I know it's early, but it will be a trend.

And I am thankful that Jose Reyes wasn't seriously hurt!

Having a great defensive outfield is very underrated.  But I can see I already wasted my time trying to talk sense to Philly fans.  I was in Philly for that late series against the Mets with a buddy of mine that was a Mets fan. I was impartial to both teams until I found out the most intelligent thing that could come out of Phillies fans mouth is "Mets Suck"   When I tried to explained to them whenever Jamie Moyer is in your rotation(an Oriole castoff, now thats bad)you guys are in trouble.  And I dont understand whats so hostile about the fans their anyway.  Stupid and obnoxious, yes, hostile no

Let's take a moment to see what has cultivated the past few years: one FANTASTIC rivalry. I have been a Mets fan since I was a kid in 1983, and this has developed into the most heated rivalry since the Willie McGee-led Cardinals broke our hearts in '85 and '87.

I don't know, there was something about the Braves "rivalry" that never sat well with me: maybe it was their quiet crowd, their geographical distance from Queens, or their postseason failures: I never quite felt this fire that I currently feel when we play Philly.

Let's face it, for a few months, Philly deserves their bragging rights. They smacked us last year, and they have a division crown flag hanging in their gorgeous new stadium.

Do I see the Mets raising a World Series banner next year at our new gem that is Citifield? I think its a great possibility ... but until then, let's enjoy what this rivalry has become. Thanks to the Phillies, the NL East is a run race again ...

Johan Santana was just about lights out.

Cole Hamels had an ordinary day.

The Mets outfield robbed the Phillies of a few base runners.

Once again, our offense has a hard time scoring on starting pitching and was able to take advantage of some hits off the bullpen.

It's only one game and there will be plenty more opportunities for these teams (and fans) to beat up on each other.  My outlook is a near split of the season series in the end.  Both teams are close to each other in talent.  It's just going to come down to who can get some streaks going.  Win one, lose one isn't going to win the division.  Somebody needs to go on a tear.  Hopefully its the Phils!

yall swept us the 14th-16th and our record after that was 83-65 we had a 3 1/2 game lead on yall

17 we had a 2 1/2 game lead on yall

18 it was down to 1 1/2 games

19 we won yall lost so 2 1/2

20 back to a 1 1/2

21 we both won

22 same story

23 we put it back to 2 1/2

24 we lost back to 2 games with 6 games to go

we play the last place Marlins and 4th place Nationals

and yall play the nationals and Braves

25 we both lost 2 games with 5 to play

Are u still with me?

26 yall got within 1 game

27 we were tied with 4 remaining and just to point out(a rain makeup game from earlier when we were actuall winning and not choking)

28 yall are up 1

29 tied again yall won the divsion

THE POINT IS FOR THE LAST TIME.heading into the final 7 games we played all teams not playing for a darn thing.AND AT HOME.WE BLEW IT.SO STOP ACTING LIKE YALL ARE THE BEST TEAM ALIVE BECAUSE IT JUST PROVES YALL ARENT COULDNT EVEN WIN A GAME AGAINST THE Rockies.THATS PATHETIC.

I think you're wrong with Victorino, he's a potential gold glover in the OF, and the guy hits around .300 can steal 30-40 bases and has 15-20hr potential, especially in that sandbox

I never said anything bad about his fielding, I think speed alone gives him an advantage over most OF's.  Also, for a small guy, he really knows how to use his whole body to launch that ball, and accurately too.  .300?  Maybe one season he'll hit that.  But he'll probably float a lil below at .285ish.  Bases he can steal nicely, but 15-20HR's is a real stretch.  15 tops maybe one season.  He doesn't have that much power.  He's still a valueble player though, just really really fast.  I think some actually consider him faster then Rollins.

And the sandbox?  C'mon man...Phillies hit just as many HR's at away then they do at home.  Lineup is just solid all around.  Ugh...whatever, that's the beauty of baseball, parks are built differently.  Don't like it, forfiet to the team so you don't have to play there.

I'm not ready to dump on Eaton yet.  He has looked better this year, his overall physical appearance looks better...little leaner, his control seems better.  Might be a fluke, but right now with the way he's pitching, he's good enough to hold on to one of the 3-4-5 slots.  So I'm in a "wait and see" mode and not ready to turn my back on him just yet.  I'm waiting for him to hit a slump and see how well he recovers.  4.12 ERA is not too shabby in "the sandbox".

Hey coolbud....here's a lesson for you, and I'm only gonna say this once.

12-6 series vs. the Mets.

Phillies had a bad start in the beginning of the year, Mets had a bad ending.

Who cares what you think....because all that matters is wins.  Phillies had more and won the division, doesn't matter when, doesn't matter how....all that matters is that at the end of 162 games, Phillies had more.

And so what, Rockies were a hot team....made the world series.  Mets lost to the eventual champ, but they were like 10th best team in the majors (record wise) that year.  What does that tell you....

You're just being a homer because here's a fact you have a hard time dealing with.  The Mets and Phillies have had the same amount of success since the Braves stopped winning the division.  Who was the most recent team to win the NL East before the Braves?  The Phillies.

Point is, Phillies still won it in 2007...but I don't really care, cause unlike you, I don't care about division titles.  Win as many as you want.  I want another World Series.  Hell, even the Marlins haven't won a single division title yet and won the WS twice.  Anything happens in the playoffs, just gotta be a hot team...

Blitz, i think we're all in the same boat in terms of not caring about the division title, and ultimately caring about the ring.  Luckily, ONE of my teams finally did that (Giants).

As a guy who's 30 years old, and being a fan of the Mets, Giants and Knicks, it's been quite a long time since i had anything to celebrate.

With the Sandbox comment, i think it's warranted.  Noone's crying, it's just an observation.  Between your big 3, Howard's stats were pretty evenly distributed between home and away, but Rollins and especially Utley had much better stats (namely power numbers) home over away.  It works both ways of course, that's why i always try to make their pitching feats that much more impressive when someoen like Hamels can have a 3.40 ERA.

Anyway, big game tonight.  I know it's "early" for Philly fans, but i think it's a statement game.  If the Mets can sweep Philly in Philly and have a nice 5-1 game advantage early on, it will help them forget about last September.
