I think he needs to be given the opportunity to make 5 starts and judge him on those. I think we knew that we weren't going to get much from him, so you have to be realistic with expectations. With the way our bullpen has been pitching, I think they would be relunctant to change things around, and if he were to lose his spot in the rotation, it would likely be to someone in AAA. They won't be moving Mahay, he hasn't been a starter recently in his career and it is tough to convert a reliever to a starter because you have to build up their endurance. They start out only going 3 innings or so and that further taxes your bullpen. It can take weeks to build them up to 5 or 6 innings. The best option is usually to promote someone who already has the endurance because they have been getting 5, 6, 7 innings or more every time out in the minors. I would say if he continues to struggle, you can probably expect him or a weak link (Nomo?) in the bullpen to be designated for assignment so that Hochevar can be promoted.
