wow...as a Duck fan (please save the rating until you've read the post), I just came by your boards to see what the talk was. This Pac-10 season is really giving me fits, and I don't know who will win it all (probably USC), but other than that...it's really up in the air.
However, I would like to congratulate the Beaver fans for their mostly classy responses to an obvious Troll among Trolls. This is some of the strangest, most incoherent posts I've ever seen. Especially taking into account, the guy created like five different screen names to get an ally on his side. Bizarre.
Maryland had some recent past success in basketball. Congratulations. But to stay relevant in the media and people's opinions you have to prove it year after year. Oregon and Oregon State have done a pretty decent job of maintaining quality programs considering the fact the state has only 3.5 million people, and Corvallis and Eugene aren't the most appealing cities for recruits. Yet they both continue to win. Just think how good we'd be in the ACC. Maryland (even in basketball) has just been mediocre. Until you win 8+ games continually in football, maybe you should stay on your own board.
To Oregon State fans, I think you said it best when you said that Riley coaches team play rather than individual talent. Sometimes at Oregon, I wish Bellotti would preach this same philosophy, it would've kept our national title hopes alive last year after Dixon went down, but instead we went on a three game skid.
Lastly, USC fans have nothing but respect for Oregon State and Oregon, as we are the only real challenge to their dynasty year after year. I've never met a USC fan who thinks we are "garbage," just as no Oregon native thinks California is a "gay" state even if it contains San Francisco.
P.S. Is there a graduate level writing program at OS(U) now? Because a few of you (BeaversRec) seem to possess greater writing talent than some of my UO brethren.

nolongerafan,
Thanks for stopping by, its nice to see a Duck fan who can actually post something that is constructive and is not just some one stopping by to flame this board. It is a welcome relief. I think that both of our programs are very good, and we have competed against each other very well.
I was not aware that our board was now "the talk" over at the Duck board. this is a relatively simple thread with a couple of substantial trolls on it. The Maryland fan that first made this post is a really interesting piece of work, then we were graced with the presence of Whitedude (PaternoPower, and OSUbeavsrec, notice the difference between my name and his is one letter).
Before the game when Dixon went down last year I was considering it a toss up between who I wanted to win the Civil War game. However, after the couple of losses, and NC hopes dashed, I decided to go with backing OS fully in the game. It was a very close game, and I think the experience helped both of our teams against our bowl opponents. For example, Oregon going up against the OS defense gave them the confidence to play against the UCF defense. And us being in a tight game with UO gave us the fortitude to make the W against a Maryland team that came out and scored on a big play, and then having our QBs either hurt or not preforming well at all in that game.
Hope Oregon does well again this year, and I hope we can ward off the Ducks gunning to beat us this year at Civil War...should be a really good game.

Do you want to talk about losses to bad teams? OK we lost to UNC. "Our Running Back Had Over 170 Yards in the bowl." Don't you understand, GoBeavsandRams, what I'm trying to say? I'm talking about the 2008-2009 Upcoming season!!! When you won't have that same running back. BTW, Check the injuries Maryland had for the 2007-2008 and when we played you guys. We had 1 sophomore QB as well. He had little experience. Stop complaining!!! Did you see that. We had the same QB situation and MORE injuries than you all had. Nice. I was ready for your gay little message. Let's see if you are ready for this.
P.S.
Maryland did lose to UNC, but YOU LOST BY 31 POINTS TO CINCY AND 26 POINTS TO FREAKIN UCLA!!!!
UCLA = 6-7 Win % = 46 %
UNC = 33% Win
Yes, UNC and UCLA are a little bit evenly matched. We lost by 3 to them AT UNC When we were making a comeback. Secondly, You Lost to UCLA, shall I say it again....BY 26 AT HOME!!!!!! ONCE AGAIN, POINT PROVEN LITTLE BUDDY!!!!! Don't bother replying back, it's way past your "beddy" time. HAHAHA!!!!
UNC 4-8 = L by 3
UCLA 6-7 = L by 26

Michigan lost to Appalachian State, USC lost to Stanford and then there was the collapse of Notre Dame. I couldn't keep track of all the upsets across the nation. I started watching teams I never took an interest in before and even ones I dislike, like Notre Dame. I kept wanting to watch Notre Dame get pounded. My point is that everyone lost to someone last year even Maryland and OS.
Vtterrapin did come here and do some flaming but nothing that compares to AAAAAAAAA or PaternoPower. He did put up some nice points, he did apologize, and he has said he wants to talk about football for the coming season. If Vtterrapin truly want to talk football then I am willing to let by gones be by gones and forget about and not reference all past posts.
The decision is yours, Vtterrapin. Punt or Run with it. If you want to get a better handle on how our team is shaping up and be a little better informed about Beaver football then try the blogs from Cliff Kirkpatrick at the website below. If you have a similiar website where a sports writer is doing a day by day anaylsis of spring training then let us know and I will take the time to see how Maryland is shaping up.

VT,
As you are so fond of pointing out our recruiting I would like to address something. The 2003 recruiting team that we put together was ranked #51 (we are ranked #52 this year). A person by the name of Yvenson Bernard (that is the guy's name who ran 170 yards on your team in the bowl game) was ranked with 2 STARS. 2 STARS, from a 51 position recruiting (You guys were ranked #32 that year as well).
So, if one of our 2 star recruits from a ranked 51 recruiting team can do that, hmmmm, maybe your theory about how we will or won't do next year is a little more shaky? We may or may not have a good running game this year, if our QB is better this year (more exp, so probably will be) our receiving corp is one of the best in the Pac-10. We got some good recruits at RB to build on, and who knows, maybe with some coaching one or two of those guys will produce (but probably not as much as a 2 star ranked guy from a 51 ranked recruiting team?).
By the way...I havn't done so yet, but count the number of turnovers you committed against UNC and then compare that to the number of turnovers we had against UCLA. What lost our games this last year was not holding onto the ball. In some games the amount of turnovers we had were just pathetic, its a surprise we didn't lose by a lot more in some of those.

Maryland did lose to UNC, No we dont. Quite frankly we dont want to talk about Maryland at all. You came here. You started talking smack . If you want to discuss Beaver football in a civilized and repectful manner then by all means feel free to discuss. Otherwise you are gonna get flamed and people are going to respond to your disrespectful comments with some of their own about your team.

OSUbeavrec, that is more like it. Good points. Yeah. Same thing with WV, Pat White was like a 2 star recruit. Recruiting sites like scout.com and rivals100.com can sometimes screw up. So yeah. You and osubeavs6 could be the classiest osu fans on here. Now let me talk football. You see, yes Yvenson Bernard did emerge from that, but what are the chances. Yeah the chances are low, but it could happen. Someone emerging from #52 recruiting like yours, yeah, that might happen, but the chances are low.

Well, I can't remember the last time we were ranked RECRUITMENT wise in the top 25, but yet we have finished in the top 25 two years in a row now, and in the last decade at least one other time (and several times into the top 25 during the course of the season).
Here's rivals info on a few things:
2002 - Ranked 52 recruitment, Adom Koets (2 star), Brandon Browner (3 star), Ben Siegert (2 star), and lawrence Turner (3 star). These guys were play/team makers (Ben i think even won some national or at least Pac10 awards, and Koets PLAYS FOR THE NY GIANTS, 2 starer...yeah), yet this is rivals take on them with recruitment. 2006 we won the Sun Bowl against Missouri (4 years after this recruit class).
2003 - Ranked 51 recruitment, Bernard we did, but Ryan Gunderson (3 star), Roy Schuening (3 star), Jef Van orsow (2 star), and Anthony Wheat (3 star). Ended season of 2007 ranked 25 and defeated Maryland in Emerald Bowl.
2004 - Ranked 26 (our highest ranked year! But we didn't get a single 5 star, so that is odd, only a couple 4 stars). Jeremy Perry (3 star), Sammie Stroughter (3 star), Clinton Polk (3 star). This is the year that this recruitment class is in their senior year.
2005- Ranked 47. Al Afalava (2 star), Victor Butler (0 star), Matt Moore (4 star, now plays with NFL got some rookie starts).
2006 - Ranked 43.
2007 - Ranked 47. Kyle Bell (2 star), James Rodgers (2 star).
2008 - Ranked 52.
I put in guys that I had heard of who had made plays for us. If other beavs were to look at the lists I'm sure they would see a few more they were familiar with, and would be shocked that they recieved as few stars as they did. For example the beavs I have on here THAT NOW PLAY IN THE NFL I would think they would be 4-5 star, but no, not a one.
Looking at Scout.com I see several similarities (Koets got 1 star, NY Giant who got 1 star). Siegert got 1 star there, and Bernard 2 star.
I wish it would go back further, I doubt previous to 2002 our recruitment was much different. The year we got Chad Johnson for example cannot be too far off from ranking 40 in recruiting that year. Same with Steven Jackson.
By the way, Mike Haas, not ranked, as he was a WALK ON. He now plays for the Chicago Bears and was a national award winner.
Our best recruiting year over the last 6 was 4 years ago...that means this could be one of our best seasons in a while if you follow the crap they put on Rivals and Scout. We have talent coming into this year, now we just need to get them a bit more field exp. However, I think our talent will carry us a ways, and exp will come quick.

The chances aren't as low as you might think check out the article below. I cut and pasted a couple of the highlights of the article.
Oregon State has had eight 1,000-yard rushers in the past 10 seasons. Only <a class="ContentDbAnchor" onmouseover="javscript:startDisplayTimer(event, 'minnesota');" onmouseout="startHideTimer();" href="http://minnesota.rivals.com/"> Minnesota (12), <a class="ContentDbAnchor" onmouseover="javscript:startDisplayTimer(event, 'texas');" onmouseout="startHideTimer();" href="http://texas.rivals.com/"> Texas and <a class="ContentDbAnchor" onmouseover="javscript:startDisplayTimer(event, 'westvirginia');" onmouseout="startHideTimer();" href="http://westvirginia.rivals.com/"> West Virginia (10 each) and Northern Illinois (nine) have had more nationally.
If not for an injury in high school, Riley believes McCants would be elsewhere. A three-star recruit, McCants starred at Corona's Santiago High but wasn't a priority recruit for the Pac-10's powerhouses. Then, when he suffered a broken left leg in November of his senior season, his recruiting stalled.
http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=796433
McCants has had a year as a redshirt freshman to familiarize himself with the team and the plays. Ryan was in last years recruiting class. In this years recruiting class we still have Jaquizz Rodgers to arrive on campus. He was overlooked by almost everyone because of his size. What OS has determined is that size doesn't matter to be a great college RB. Look at Y. Bernard or K. Simonton. Also there is the JC transfer J. Francis which is putting on a very good show. I expect at least one will emerge as another star and maybe more than one.

I guess the copy and paste didn't work so well on my first paragraph. I've typed it in below.

Oh yeah I know what you mean. Remember Vernon Davis (TE Grad of 2005 for Maryland). He was only a 2 star recruit and now he starts for San Fran 49rs. Scout and Rivals need to develop a better method for tracking and ranking players. They're doing all right now, but still they need more improvement.
