in MLB history. If they used the DH in the National League the Dodgers would let the pitchers hit and DH for Jones. I don't understand how he could have turned into such a turd. I know it's early and that he still might turn it around.....he just looks soooooo crappy.

I knew when the Dodgers signed him he was going to be no good for us.  Why would you sign him when we have so many good young players who can play the outfield.  I never understand why teams are willing to sign old aging ballplayers to huge $$$$ contracts when the minors have outstanding talent. Just a waste of $$$$$$.  Then the team complains how high their salaries are.  Poor management and player evaluation is here again with us this year.

Andruw Jones overrated, Nomar G.  injury prone.  We needed a third baseman and they did nothing to address that issue but sign another outfielder.  Go figure.

I've been thinking about Andruw Jones and maybe the reason why he's been struggling so much... We all know that the NL West has arguably the best pitching out of any of the 6 divisions in the league... Cain, Lincecum, Peavy, Young(even though he sucked tonight), Webb and Haren are all pitchers we've faced this season.... who all would be considered above average pitchers...with Andruw coming here from the NL East where his teams only play teams from the NL West six times a season...he is probably unfamiliar with these pitchers while everyone else in the lineup has seen all these pitchers extensively.....

I believe they say that pitchers seem to have the advantage over the hitters when they see each other the first time....Jones can watch all the video tape and take all the extra batting practice he needs...but facing live pitching in a game situation is a million times different then facing a batting practice pitcher... he's pressing while trying to figure out these unfamiliar pitchers in a new division....

I'm not making excuses for Jones...he's been in the league and had enough success long enough that he should be able to avoid the kind of a slump he's in right now regardless of the circumstances...but obviously that's not the case..he is plain awful right now through the first 11 games...there are no other words to describe it....god awful..

I guess there are two reasons for Jones's struggle...what i just posted...or he's past his prime and he'll never be anything remotely like he was before.... I'm not ready to call him washed up 11 games into the season...and I don't think we can sit him....he  needs the repetitiveness of playing every day to get out of his slump right now....and this is going to upset a lot of people...

Andruw Jones getting his bat going is more important than whether or not Kemp is getting enough bats and whether we should sit Jones and put Kemp in center.

Matt Kemp has a bright future in this league....he's going to be VERY, VERY good....he is going to have a tremendous impact this season and for many, many seasons...but right now...for this team to succeed and make noise in this race...Jones has to hit...when Jones is hitting...his home run threat scares opposing pitchers....It's very important to have someone in the lineup that you worry will hit a home run every time he comes into the lineup...Jones has had that potential every year he's been in the league....Matt Kemp doesn't scare pitchers yet...but he will...mark my words..he will.

How long do we give Jones to break out of this slump? I'd say to the middle of May..if he hasn't improved by the middle of May then we look at other alternatives.

Another reason we need Jones to hit...is that all those people who want to trade Juan Pierre...that will never happen if Jones doesn't hit...he will be with this club until then.

Hopefully after we're done playing the NL West tomorrow...the quality of pitching Jones faces will diminish and he'll be able to get back on track..We have the Pirates and the Braves coming up next week..Hopefully he can hit the Braves...cause he's never faced them in a game before...I believe he should be able to hit the Pirates....hopefully.

Go Blue!!!

And my point was just proven...Kemp will hit whether or not he plays every day..just hit a homer...i don't think Jones can come off the bench and be successful

to dpwtv: Note that Torre got Kemp in there against second line pitching, and BANG!
I think the manager did a great job of working him into a spot where he could make contact and gain confidence.

I think Juan Pierre will continue to start against right-handers, anyway; Torre likes his speed at the top of the order. The big question for tomorrow is, who starts in CF against Maddux? I'm thinking it'll be Kemp, to give Jones a "breather."

Now watch Torre start 'em both, and sit JP.

to vegas viper: for the money, Chan Ho will be just fine as the guy before the set-up guy.

Also, Jones was signed when the Dodgers had 2 guys locked in to fight for the 3b spot; the fact they both got injured in the same game is unfortunate, but if the Dodgers hadn't signed Jones, they wouldn't have signed a third baseman instead, fer cryin' out loud!

Finally, you can yap all you want about Nomar being "injury prone." You go stand in the batter's box and let a pitcher bounce a 90mph baseball off your wrist, and let's see who's injury prone.  Like the cartoon where the workers drop a safe out of a 5th-story window and it lands on a pedestrian, and VegasViper comes along and sez: "Gee, that pedestrian is sure injury prone."

What kind of snake are you, anyway? Don't be an assp!

Again, I just don't understand how someone can be "the biggest bust ever" 9 games into a season. He's starting out in a slump, big deal. At the end of the season if his average is still .109 then call him the biggest bust all you want, but right now, it really makes no sense.

Viper,

First you complain that teams sign veterans when they have young talent ready to break in, then you are upset that LA didn't bring in another 3rd baseman even though we had LaRoche ready to go...

Make up your mind, it doesn't work both ways.

I know that things are different this year, and I'm not trying to make excuses for Jones, but remember when Rafael Furcal got off to that slow start in his first year here after coming from the Braves? Sports Illustrated called him the biggest bust at the All-Star Break. Furcal turned it on in the second half and hit .300 with 15 homers an
