I've posted up 2 threads about the White Sox, and a lot of you doubted what I've said. Thinking we had a mediocre team and would be fighting the Twins and Royals for last place. Now with the first week out of the way, we are in first place, we swept the Tigers and should have taken 2 of 3 from Cleveland( if the Umps hadn't blown the game for them). Chicago is playing with a lot of heart, and to me playing in everyway as I've expected and talked about.

I just want to know what you think about this first week? Do you think a Division Title is out of reach? Do you think we will win 90+ games?

I've had felt back in March that this team had the same feel as 2005 to it.  Before 2005, everyone wanted Kenny's head because he let Ordonez go, and traded Carlos Lee.  But they said that they were going to play more small ball in 05, and I think they concentrated on the same things before this off season.  Now, I don't know if we are going to the world series, but I do feel there is enough on this team to make a strong playoff run.  Our starting pitchers need to show up all season if we are going to really make a strong playoff run.

I am impressed with the White Sox so far. I couldn't be happier. Hopefully, they can keep it up. I think this is going to be an exciting season...However, let's keep in mind that it is only week one. There is a whole lot of baseball yet to be played.

Swisher and Quentin are very impressive, and KW should be credited with making those moves. Uribe has done a good job defensively, but I am still not sold on the idea of him being our solution at 2B. So far it is working out ok...Contreras is still a concern for me.

If the Sox can keep it up, they can definitely contend for the division title.

It's a long season but if the backend of the pitching rotation can be ok and we play good D we can stay in it I think. Bullpen will be good and when you have AJ and Swisher and Quentin carrying the team right now and they can stay hot it's only a matter of time until Paul and Jim Thome come around too.

The salient points you make are based, as you've alluded to, on a small sampling.  However, seeing everyone on the bench look up and down the lineup for a "spark" from someone else in '07 and seeing this years team eyeing the opportunity to do so themselves makes me believe that things truly have turned around in '08.  The White Sox will win this year....thats all I can say for now....the rest of the division is so strong that I would deem 6 games over 500 a good season.  They'll get there....but contention?????.....the jury is still out.

I still have many questions about our pitching. Can Contreras pull it around? Will Danks and Floyd continue to impress in August and September?

So far our offense and defense appear solid. Double plays all day! Beautiful ball so far.

I've seen a lot of posts that have said the Sox could win 90 games and still miss the playoffs. But Bill Melton recently said 90 wins takes the Central. Based off the first week, I'd have to agree with him. This division is too good from top to bottom to have any team get 95-100 wins. I hope the Sox keep it up and we play into October but its way to too early to say anything about their chances. The other real indicator will be when we start the West coast trips which have typically killed the Sox in years past.

Before the season began, I predcited an 88 win season.  However, after watching this team play the first seven games, I can honestly say they can win between 90-95 games.  They will need to stay healthy.

Reason

Clutch Hitting

Never say die attitude

Tough Bullpen

on the positive side, they are playing damn hard, the way they used to play in 05 and 06.  They are coming back when they are down, and having a great approach at the plate.  You are seeing better at bats across the board, and I think Swisher and Cabrera are good adds with great attitudes.

What worries me ??  I would like better performances out of the starters.  It's early, but the ERA's are very high for the starters.  I love Linebrink and Jenks at the end.....I'm 50/50 on Dotel, Logan looks good, Thornton scares me, and Mac Dougal scares the hell out of me.....He has no idea where the pitch is going when he releases it.  I would feel much better with Wasserman in the pen than Mac Dougal.

Overall, you could not have asked for a better first week....with the Sox 5-2, and Det 0-7.
