Thank God!! He is without a doubt the most arrogant sportscaster I've ever heard or seen. That's saying a lot too! I prefer listening to anyone saying anything than listen to this guy call a game. He is awful! Collinsworth is the only thing that made the broadcasts even bearable. Gumble would be great a calling a chess match with his high-brow, intellectual approach he tries to lay on everything he does.

Is is just me or did he kind of sound like Kermit the frog while he was announcing? Bottom line, he won't be missed.

Dennis Miller was ten times better than Gumble. And that;s bad!!!! He is more of a golf or baseball announcer. He's is good at interviews and other things, but i agree he was a poor football anylst!!!!

It's about time now I won't have to listen to his dribble anymore.  I would always find myself thinking would you just shut the hell up you're ruining the game for me.

i'M WITH YA ON THAT, HE HAD NO PLACE IN THE FOOTBALL BOOTH. ONLY JOE THIESMAN WAS WORSE....BECAUSE ALL HE TALKS ABOUT IS HIMSELF. GONNA BE A GREAT YEAR WITHOUT EITHER OF THOSE TWO ARROGANT JERKS IN FOOTBALL.

I agree. Gumbel's droning voice was putting me to sleep. The time he missed a game and, I think, Verne Lundquist subbed for him it was more enjoyable to listen to.

Another to consider would be Bill Rosinski. A deep enthusiastic voice. Currently calling the games for Westwood One he was the voice of the Carolina Panthers for 10 years (wish he was back ...he had disagreement with team management, called em like he saw em) and before that with the Atlanta Falcons.  He was originally from Buffalo.

What a tool.

His brother got all the talent and yet this arse hat is the more famous of the two.

Now if we could just get rid of Skip "the ultmate jackass" Bayless, the Schwab(sic), Stuart Scott, Scream'n A Smith, Tony Reali and Jim Rome the sports world would be a much better place.

Sports Infotainment- ain't it great?

Good announcers are rare, but one as bad as this Gumbel are also rare.  A good announcer needs to have three things.  If they lack one of the three, they are usually tolerable.  An announcer needs a good voice.  Gumbel has a weak voice.  It's not as bad as the shrill nasilly voice the one Yankees radio announcer has - dude sound like a chick, but I digress.  Next, they need to have an understanding of the sport and team they are covering.  Being a former player doesn't necessarilly mean they have this understanding - look at Joe Morgan.   Gumbel has a general understanding, but he always seemed distant from the game and the players.  They also need good chemistry with the other guys in their booth - they need to seem to like each other - the jokes and subsequent laughter can't be forced.  This is why Dennis Miller was so terrible.  Gumbel wasn't Dennis Miller bad, but he never seemed to click with the other guys in the booth either.  I could see him doing like an outside the lines type program or something, but he shouldn't have been in a broadcast booth.

Right on ouchuckno1.

I also agree completely with Roswell_Ed , too bad we could't grade these clowns.

However, I do like Rod Woodson.

I can't say that I hate him, but he was the most annoying, and monotone play by play ever. He always was a baseball guy and should have stuck to that. He was way over his head and should've stepped down sooner. I have not enjoyed listening to commentators in the past, but Gumble was the first play by play that could make a game less enjoyable.
