Everyone is the next Tom Brady, every year people come up with the hot quarterback thats going to be the next Brady or the next Manning.
First of all, almost no one, not even the Patriots saw Brady as being as good as he is now, or he would not have been drafted in the 6th round.
Every year people make comparisons between young quarterback prospects and the greats, but the fact is almost none of them get there. Does anyone else remember back a few years when the Jets were excited about some guy named Chad Pennington? He was the next Brady. How did that work out?

I think if you look a little closer, you will see that the only way he compares Henne to Brady is in the way they were perceived as seniors and throughout their last bowl game.  He specifically quotes "Don't go crazy thinking I'm comparing Henne to Brady because that's not fair".  I don't think it's fair that people jump to conclusions without reading every sentence in an article.  I guess your Patriot man-love for Brady must be coloring your perspective.

The only thing Tom Brady and Chad Henne have in common is that they are both crappy QB's coming out of Michigan.

And just for the record, Chad Pennington was the next Joe Montana, not Tom Brady. He was drawing comparisons to the greats before Brady even got his first NFL start. You can thank Mo Lewis and the Jets giving him that opportunity.

Too bad the real "next Joe Montana" had such bad luck with injuries.

How could Pennington have been the next Brady when Chad was drafted in the 1st round in 2000 and Brady the 6th, when Tom was virtually an unknown.

I think one thing that differentiates Chad from Tom, is the fact that most Michigan fans, from my perspective, love Chad Henne, nobody i knew liked Tom Brady when he was Michigans quarterback, we though he should've been benched.

I think that this illustrates with VERY FEW EXCEPTIONS (see Manning, Payton and Eli) that it's darn near impossible to see what cream rises to the top once these guys are in the Pro game...a great college QB does not equate to a great pro QB...too many variables...and the size and speed of the pro game takes most qb's out of the equation.

Conversely, the pro game unearths some real QB talent that wasn't as EVIDENT in college in the first place.  There's really no way to know.....like most everything else... ;)

GO JRussell!!!!

No one knows what will end up being the case...we will just need to wait and see.  However, I don't see how Brady is a piece and frankly, the guys rated as the top QB's usually are rated that way due to physical skills and not based on the ability to lead or make decisions.

Personally,  I think JaMarcus Russell going number 1 last year was an absolute joke.  He will never be anything more than a Byron Leftwich.  He may be an average QB but he may end up being a better OT.....since he can't seem to quit eating!

I truly think that there are more QB's this year that will succeed in the NFL, than there usually are.  I think that Ryan, Henne, and Brohm all have the physical skills and the leadership/decision making skills to succeed.  I don't know a ton about Flacco other than he can supposedly throw a football through the side of a tank...ha ha!

I want production, leadership, and decision making way before I am interested in a cannon arm.  Of course, they need to have enough ability to play but it's not about the fastest, strongest, or hardest thrower.  It is about leading a team to wins....there are no extra points for throwing an incompletion 70 yards....

How are you saying that the Jets were thinking of Chad Pennington as the next Brady? They were drafted in the same year and Pennington first! Either way, top prospects will always be ignorantly compared to superstars based on talent. But its not talent that gets you anywhere in the NFL its the combination of that with the neccesary intangibles that makes it happen and no matter how hard you try you can't get measure that while their in college.
