It was bad that Memphis missed two three throws and then got the rebound and did not score after Kansas failed to box out.  I would not call this a big collapse, we all knew Memphis wasn't that great a FT and it was proven correct in the clutch so it's not a collapse, it was just a disappointment if you are a Memphis fan, but man what a game!

You'd be pi$$ed if your team pulled that kind of a choke job too. Although, if I were a big Memphis fan, I'd be railing on the missed FTs and the bad coaching down the stretch, not griping about Kansas cheating. Congrats to Chalmers for hitting that shot, but this "great Kansas comeback" was really all about Memphis choking. Its not that difficult to foul someone (well unless your Memphis I mean) and hope they miss their free throws. And as far as the "non call on the foul" at the end of the game, when you're intentionally fouling someone, you have to make it obvious. And blowing a nine-point lead with less than two minutes left? Geez. This is the worst choke ever because it was a championship game. Good job Calipari. Although in a few years the NCAA will probably discover some illegality on this team this too and this will be stricken from the record.

Memphis lost for 2 reasons:

1. They didn't hit the four biggest free throws of the year

2. They didn't commit the foul at the end of regulation that would have sent Kansas to line on a 1-and-1 where they would have had to make the front end, then rebound the intentional miss on the second shot. Much lower percentage play than allowing a 3 point attempt. Rose did not foul him. When you are intentionally fouling you need to grab a guys arm or wrap him up, not maybe possibly bump his arm as you go for the steal. No Ref in the country is going to call that at the end of the game.

The officiating in this game was very good. If you don't think Joey Dorsey's 5th foul was a foul, you're only kidding yourself. Not only was it a foul, it was probably the stupidest play anyone on the court could have made at that given time.

Whine all you want Memphis, Chris Douglas-Roberts should have been called for a Technical at the end of regulation for slamming the ball down after his misses. The NCAA rule says that is a technical. It doesn't say it's up to the Referee to interpret what the action meant. It says if you slam the ball down like that it is a T. That would have given Kansas a chance to take the lead (2 shots and the ball) rather than a tie with a desperation 3 to send it to overtime.

Don't blame the officiating. Blame your coach who said on National TV that Free Throw shooting was about 25th on his list of important things. He doesn't care how they do from the charity stripe. Do you think he cares now?

By the way I'm a PITT fan who has no feelings toward Kansas or Memphis, so don't take the homer angle.

UCONN over Duke in the final four 2004.  I believe Duke was up 8 or 9 with 2:30 left.  Taking terrible, contested shots with 15-20 seconds left on the shot clock for 3 possessions really hurt them.

I really forgot how much Duke blew it, until I saw it on ESPN Classic Saturday afternoon...

It amazes me that every team KU played, except Davidson, choked.  Seems a trend that has a reason that has not been considered - like - maybe all that pressure, early and continuous, affects the late performance.  Maybe the KU defenders really are tough.  Maybe these teams that loose to KU aren't as team oriented as KU.  Maybe they really were beaten.??

Maybe???

I am a true blue Memphis fan, and yes, we totally threw the game away. I felt bad last night and horrible this morning. I doubt we will ever get a chance at redemption, but I have to remind myself that it is just a game, but right now that isn't working very well.

Anybody look at the stat sheet??  KU out shot, out rebounded, and out defended Memphis, and hit 93% of their free throws.  That is a win folks, not a collapse by the other team.  If KU shoots 63% of their free throws like Memphis did would that mean KU gave the game away??  This might have been one of the greatest comebacks in history but not the greatest collapse or choke job.  Statistically KU was the better team and of course on the scoreboard too.

Transplant to Memphis here... was a hater for a long time until I really started watching this team play... they play great defense, work well together and all understand their roles... they are a great TEAM...

I will make a few points...

1. Free throws finally caught up to Memphis

2. NO ONE has talked about that steal and three on the inbounds play that cut the lead to four which was a HUGE play

3. Memphis should have fouled on the last possession, HOWEVER I have seen different coaches who feel differently about doing this... I think Cal had confidence in his defense and honestly in his mind he probably wanted to win it there and not extend the game and take the chance of having to go back to the line

4. Chalmers hit a filthy shot at the end and once that went in you just had the feeling Memphis had the wind knocked out of them

5. Someone made a point that refs don't want to decide the game in the last ten minutes... well that is true, but why then do you call a ticky tac foul on Dorsey at the end?

Great game from a basketball perspective.. Being a Memphian I will say we needed this... as a city this would have meant everything to us.... congrats to Kansas

EDIT... just saw Cal say they were fouling... Collins just got away it looked like... I can't tell if they tried to or not...

on another note Jay Bilas is an idiot... if he was such a genius he would be coaching and not sitting there like a punk playing monday morning quarterback...
