So news broke today that Jerryd Bayless from Arizona has hired an agent and entered his name into the NBA Draft.  Budinger is still on the fence...

What is going on with UCLA.  Any word who will be around next year and who will be gone?

The way I see it, UCLA could start their bench and STILL make the NCAA tourney, but do who guys know who (if anyone) is leaving?

Collison
Love
Shipp
Moute

All of these guys could get picked up if they entered...

I think Westbrook would be picked ahead of any of them if he leaves for the draft right now. He's a top 10 pick right NOW.

I wouldn't expect Love, Collison, and Westbrook to return for next season. In the beginning of the season, Love and Collison were projected to be 1st rounder and their draft status didn't change much. Love improved his draft status during the season but not by much due to his size and the potential position he will play in the next level. Collison has always been projected as the middle of the 1st round. Even with bad showing in the tournament, his draft status didn't change. Westbrook elevated his game during this past season from nowhere into a 1st round prospect. His inconsistency of outside shooting dropped him from projected top 10 pick to the middle of 1st round or maybe late 1st round.

After the Fall Quarter, Kevin Love basically took classes that he can pass without effecting basketball based on the recent article on ESPN. Darren Collison is a Junior and yet he hasn't declared his Major. That goes the same with Russell Westbrook. You can just speculate that Academics are not in their immediate interest and perhaps this year is their best year to be drafted. Kevin Love knows that he didn't want to go through like Joakim Noah who was projected as a top five and dropped to 9th spot for staying in school. His faith maybe the same if he stayed for another year.

I posted several times in the past regarding Mbah a Moute and I'll reiterate it again that he values his education at UCLA. He's an All Academic Pac-10 Honorable Mention this past season and he will return for his Senior season to graduate. This year he's improving on his mid-range shooting and he's not ready whatsoever for NBA. Meanwhile, Josh Shipp played himself out of the draft since the 2nd half of Pac-10 plays. He'll return for his Senior season and next year he'll probably be a 2nd rounder at best.

Players have until April 27th to enter the draft and then have until June 15 to remove their name from the list povided they do not hire an agent.  One change this year is that NBA teams can pay all expenses  to have a player come and work out for them.

The Pac Ten is going to lose quite a few players this season.  Brothers Lopez have hired an agent and Bayless and Anderson from Cal have declared without agents so far.  Other players that might test the NBA waters are Budinger-AZ, Hardin-Cal, and Gibson-sc.  Love ,Collison and Westbrook and Mayo will no doubt be gone next season.    Alfred Aboya will graduate early and may not return for his senior season.

Washington st. says good bye to Low, Weaver and Cowgill and there is a rumor that Baynes wants to return home to Australia.   One player staying put is Washington's Brockman.  Lorenzo Romar has a great recruiting class coming in next season and with Brockman and Pondexter returning the Huskies should be a contender in 09.    ASU should also have anotehr good team with both Hardin, Pendergraph and Abbott returning.

Mayo said after the loss to KSU that he'll stay for another season. But again that's if Tim Flyod is still their coach. Tim Floyd is a Southerner and 3 stints on his career were in Louisiana (Louisiana Tech, New Orleans and the Hornets). The new LSU's AD will offer him more than SC is willing to pay. Besides he doesn't have the headache to compete with us year in and year out if he decided to leave for LSU. He can be the Man in the SEC much quicker than here in Los Angeles. When that happens, Mayo will bounce to the NBA draft as fast Tim Floyd signed with LSU.

James Harden may test the NBA water but if he returns, ASU will have Pendergraph, Abbot and Boateng. It looked like Boateng is coming around toward the end of the season.

the only reason Love would not go is if he really wants to win a nation champ. Before he got to college he said he wanted to stay tell he won one but thats all different now. i think collison will be smart and come back and not be the next affalo and leave and do nothing in the nba.  moute wont go and i dont think westbrook will end up going. maybe i am just hoping he does not but i just think he will stay arouond to work on his shot.

When is the last time whether NBA or NFL underclassmen that stayed another year actually improved their draft status after being projected 1st round? Kapono was better off when he tested the NBA draft after his freshman season. Look at Matt Leitneart, from a number 1 to a number 10 which cost about somewhere in 10 millions in signing bonus. Aaron Afflalo is playing for the NBA championship team and he's averaging 13 minutes a game which was better than Farmar's rookie season. In any case, do you really think Love, Collison, and Westbrook are NBA franchise players type?

Per Coach Howland, Collison and Westbrook are projected to be mid to low 1st round while Kevin Love to be a top 10 pick. 1st round is guarantee contract and for Collison and Westbrook, this is their best chance. They can easily develop their games in NBA while having millions in their pockets than doing the same thing in college without pay.

3 PG/SG incoming freshmen will try for playing time this upcoming season. Remember they are Top recruits at their positions. They may well be good enough to be our starters. Both Collison and Westbrook weren't highly recruited and they made themselves into NBA 1st round players. The opportunity is here and they should take it.
