... to quote a famous North Carolinian.

Who would've thunk the AP (ACC Press) would have crowned TH.  I mean really, did anyone else stand a ghost of a chance?

Not to knock Psycho, since after all he is a very talented player, but he isn't even the best big man (Love), let alone the best player (Beasley).

Facts aside, congrats Ty!  You (umm) earned it!

put your ucla bias aside...

all the professional analysts, coaches, bla bla know that hansbrough is the superior player to love.

beasley is the only other player who could have gotten it.

Tyler must have won b/c of an ACC conspiracy that has infiltrated the NATIONWIDE AP by shipping out good ole boys from Charlotte, Raleigh, and Atlanta all across the country to brainwash sports writers to favor the ACC. Give me a break dude.

The simple fact is Tyler won b/c his intangibles outweighed Beasley's more so than Beasely's stats outweighed Tyler's stats. By intangibles I mean Tyler led his team to a conference championship by making a game winning shot, and he led his team to the final four by making two clutch shots to clinch the game. And its not like Tyler's stats aren't impressive: 22 ppg and 11 rpg.

Remind me again why of the last 14 winners, 8 are from the ACC.  All hat, no cattle with your argument.

Maybe better players play in the ACC?
Hansbrough
Redick
Jason Williams
Shane Battier
Elton Brand
Antwan Jamison
Tim Duncan
Joe Smith

Are you gonna say those players didn't deserve it the year they won it?  Those are all good players and while I didn't see them all play, I'm only 20, I'm pretty sure if they were good enough for the sports writers, than they were good.  Besides its not Carolina stealing National Players of the Year looks like Duke had 4 in a row of the ones that won.

And if Ty is better, why would Love be projected as higher pick in this years nba draft?

It isn't because TH is the better player, it is because the press is rewarding him for three very good years at NC.  I would love to see a UCLA/UNC final, because it would settle this once and for all.

Regardless, I think that the award should go to Beasley, no contest.

Agree.  I'm of a neutral persuasion.  I have no dogs in this fight.  This isn't an Oscar.  Save the career achievement awards for something else.

Beasley is flat out better, his team would be flat out worse without him, and he flat out has more talent.  Period.

You're proving my point for me.  Look @ the Heisman.  How many times do you see TWO schools dominating the entire thing?  Even of those 8 players SIX from two schools.  Looks like a media bias to me....

Love the best big man not. If you want to talk big big men try Hibbert at Georgetown. Beasley is a flash in the pan, he will be gone. If Beasley was so great why isn't Kstate in the final four? When UCLA meet's UNC in the final game Mr. Love will get taken to school and embarrassed. He can't run with Tyler nor score like Tyler.

You people are amazing. You want to give POY award to a player that is only playing in college because the eligibility rules and age limit of the NBA? This is precisely why I think that freshman should not be able to win the award. Tyler is a junior, he has done so much for this team since he arrived in Chapel Hill. Hansbrough, Bobby Fraser and Danny Green had to play majority of minutes their freshmen year because the massive exodus the year before.

Admittedly I'm biased being a Carolina grad but Tyler deserves this award for many reasons. First take the numbers, yes Beasley's numbers are better than Tyler's but that's because his team got him the ball because he was the best shooter on the team. UNC is filled with talented shooters. And if you don't think that Tyler did not have 2 or 3 defenders on him at every possession than you didn't watch many UNC games and Tyler still made most of those buckets or was fouled and made them at the line.

Hansbrough carried the Tar Heels when Ty Lawson was hurt, without him, UNC probably would have lost 3-4 more of those games and definitely would have lost the Elite 8 game. If he played for any other team other than UNC, you would not be complaining. Some believe that Tyler got POY because of who he plays for or what conference he plays in but what I see is that you think he doesn't deserve the award because he plays for UNC/ACC.

NPOY award goes to a player that not only puts up great numbers but makes his team better and in 2008 that is Tyler Hansbrough. By raising his game during Lawson's injury, he made his teammates raise theirs as well.

BTW, Tyler also won the Adolph Rupp Trophy last night as well. It seems to me that the only people that matter believe Tyler deserves all the awards that are piling up.
