Up here in Portland, aka "Beer-vana," if I'm gonna have a beer it gots t' be one of the local brews.  Just now I cracked open a Black Butte Porter from Bend's Deschutes Brewery.  If the Raiders make it to the offseason I may just have to splurge on some home brew equipment and dedicate my first batch to the team I love best.  Gots to start thinking of some good names (hmmmm...Bye Bye Jerry Porter? Black Hole Stout?).

Aloha Maui No. 1!  Sorry for your loss.  Hopefully your sis and you will find other reasons to connect.  There's definitely a strong Portland/Hawaii cross current of folks coming and going.  I've been in Pdx for a dozen years now.  It's a pretty small city so your sister and I have almost certainly lessened our degrees of separation.  I have family on Maui (well, a sister in law and niece) who've been there for nearly twenty years, and no doubt you've crossed paths with them.  I am haunted by my one and only visit there three years ago, and dream of finding a way to call one of the islands home. 

My favorite Portland slogan is "Keep Portland Weird"  -- not quite the same as Maui Number One, but it resonates with a certain slice of the populace here.  In that spirit,
