I know it was only against the Timberwolves, but the Pistons bench did a great job last night coming back from > 20 down in the 2nd to win the game.  They showed how deep the team can be; when they focused on the defense they stopped the 'Wolves cold and climbed back in it.

Again, I know it was against one of the worst teams in the league, but how many other teams could sit their #1,2 and 3 options on the offensive end and pull out a win against anyone?  If the Celtics sat Garnett, Allen and Pierce?  The Suns sat Nash, Amare, and ???, the Lakers without Kobe, ???, ???.  I think the Celts are the only other team who would have a chance without their top 3; and that is why I think last nights game was such a good win and impressive in its own way.

I agree with you totally , it shows how deep we could really go, could you imagine the Celtics playing with out the Big 3 or San Antonio without Duncan, Parker and Ginobli, I believe they both could have won against the worst team in the leaugue, but I don't see them being able to go as deep as the Pistons.

The Pistons sat the 3 all-stars and still played 12 deep. With Stuckey Maxille, Amir and Afflalo all getting good chunks of minutes.

Didn't get to watch this game.  Actually, it's been a while since I have had the time to sit and enjoy a Pistons game.  I really am missing out right now with all our young gunnaz in the game.

looked at the box score, highlights, shot charts so I kinda got a feel for what happend.  Stuckey was ballin and AA was playing some hard D like always.

Where has Maxiell been lately??

Since Theo took up most of his minutes he has kinda dissapeared(sp?)

Too bad you missed last night DJ, you would have loved how much the young guys played.
Stuckey had a great night (obviously), but it is still clear that he has work to do--mostly finishing around the basket and getting the assists up and TO down.  But considering he's played 2/3 of a season you can see why the organization is so high on him.  Lindsay and Chauncey have done a great job mentoring him so far.  I worry with RIP and Chauncey good for another handful of years will we be able to keep both Stuckey and Afflalo or is one or both going to get discouraged with the lack of starts/PT with the talent they have?

And as to Maxx, I have posted the same thing before.  With Theo getting minutes and Johnson actually getting a few now where has Maxx gone?  I'm hoping it is just a lull in the long season (first time he has had significant PT in an 82 game season) and he will explode come playoff time when the use/need him more.  Right now there is not much to play for with #2 in the East pretty much set and I think his role is set as the first big off the bench--or do you think Flip is dumb enough to abandon him for Theo?

You are talking about Flip right , of course we all know this answer, Yes Flip is dumb, and Flip also loves his vets so it would not surprise me if Theo was first to come off the bench insteat of Mad Max. I think it would be the worst thing to do , keep Max in the solid rotation. But then again Using Flip and smart in the same paragraph is always wrong also.

The record clearly shows that I am not Flip fan, but I think he has been doing a better job with the young guys this year.  He's actually gotten them good game time experience.  Joe went and made the move to get some vets in as insurance for the playoff and Flip has had to play them to get them working with the team.  I think (hope) in the last 3-4 games of the regular season when everyone has had their rest we will see a return to the normal rotation to gear up for the playoffs.  Now that Flip has decided it is okay to play the young guys, maybe he can learn to make in-game adjustments when things aren't going well.

The big question is who is out to make the 12 man roster?  I see Herrmann and Samb, but then the hard choice comes: Afflalo, Johnson, Ratliff, Dixon???  It may be a vet for the first round to get the young guys some experience, but unless they perform amazingly I don't think they brought Ratliff and Dixon in to not be on the playoff roster; but to have Afflalo or Johnson sit doesn't sit well with me either.  Man, it sucks being so deep

I think Flip would bring Theo off the bench as the first big.  I dont have THAT much of a problem with it.  Maxx will get his minutes and Theo has been playing pretty good lately.

I thought it was a 13 man roster???

I would sleep better at night if the playoff line up looked like this....

Chauncey

Rip

Tay

Dyess

Sheed

AA

Stuckey

Theo

Maxx

Amir

Lindsey

Jarvis

Herrmann

This is what I found at NBA.com, looks like it's 12, so drop Herrmann off the bottom there.  I'm a big Maxx fan, so I would like to see him come off the bench first, but I could see it depending on size as Ratliff is like 3 feet taller than Maxiell to play the tall guys.  Do you really think they will put AA over Dixon?  I think Flip likes Dixon as he scores more and has the possibillty of running the point (though not too well).

The NBA Playoffs

Each team that qualifies for the NBA Playoffs must submit a list of its players eligible to compete in playoff games on the day following the end of the regular season.

Because there is no Injured List for the NBA Playoffs, each playoff team must designate the 12 players eligible for the playoffs from all of its regular season lists (Active, Injured and Suspended).

A player who is on the Injured, Active or Suspended List at the end of the regular season, but who is not designated for playoff eligibility, need not be waived. He remains on the appropriate regular season list through the NBA Playoffs.

Teams must have at least nine eligible players dressed and able to play in a playoff game. Teams failing to comply are subject to fines.

I thought that if Flip was going to sit anyone, I thought that McDyess would've been one of them. Then Maxx and other players could've gotten Antonio's minutes too. I was a little surprised about Rip sitting out because his conditioning is ridiculous, but I guess it's beneficial so he can get a little more rest just coming off his small hip injury.

I'm just glad that we can get some rest before gearing up for the playoffs. I have high hopes...

To answer who is out on the 12 man roster is tough.  Definitely Samb and Herrmann.  As for the third player, I'd think Flip (and /or Joe D.) will base it on the particular team and matchups.  He may need to make a different player inactive on different nights until he finds the right matchup.  My understanding is that you can make a different player inactive each night just like in the regular season.  This should work well for the Pistons!

My understanding is that you can make a different player inactive each night just like in the regular season.I've tried doing a search on the subject and find a lot of different information.  The item I posted above from NBA.com says you must chose 12 players the day after the playoff: but not all the information on their site is up to date as I found something there saying the first round is a best of 5 still (which it still should be by the way).  I found other sites saying that the playoff roster is 13 men and you must choose one each night as inactive, and others saying you get the full 15 and inactivate 3 each night.  I thought that nba.com would be authoritative, but I still have questions.  Anyone know FOR SURE what the rule is?
