According to John Clayton of ESPN, the Vikings and Gus Frerotte have reached an agreement in principle.  It sounds like Gus is coming back to Minny, hopefully this means Brooks Bollinger is out of here.  Who will be our third round pick at qb?

Great, hope he can play like he did for us a few years ago if the team needs him to. Hopefully T-Jack will have a breakout year and they wont need him.

yeah I really hope we draft a QB and have him take bollinger's spot. I don't think we need to use a 3rd rounder, but I wouldn't mind at all if it was josh johnson. Late round picks might work better like brennen or dixon in the 6th....please be dixon!!!

Dennis Dixon in round 4 or later. Runs like Vince Young, Throws like Carson Palmer. Hesiman candidate until he got hurt.

First of all it is great that the Vikes have landed a veteran free agent quarterback and Gus Frerotte is a pretty good one.

I agree with T Monee...going after Dennis Dixon in the 4th round would be great.  If Dixon is not available I would not mind seeing Josh Johnson.

What do you all think about the Vikes pursuing Byron Leftwich?

this is good news he will be a reliable backup, much better than Slowcomb.  even if he doesnt have to step in he'll be a good mentor for T-Jack.  I agree with Dennis Dixon he looks good especially if we can get him in the fourth.

Good news: Upgrade from Bollinger

Bad news: 12 INT's in limited play last year.

In conclusion, another year of inconsistent play at QB in'08.

Coronaguy2, I like your insinuation at it being a 3rd rounder. Doesn't this signing mean we could draft a QB anywhere? I mean, I have no idea of what the Vike's brass is thinking. Legitimately they could draft Brohm in the 1st round although most might think it a little high. The second round could be Henne or Flacco if they fall that far. 3rd could be Johnson. 4th could be Dixon (probably high) or Booty. Did I miss anyone?

Actually the way we went after Rosenfels (or any QB) makes me think they know that they need competition for Jackson. Or at least someone who can come in if Jackson struggles or gets hurt. It wouldn't surprise me if the Vikings drafted a QB early. I'm not saying that is what they should do, but that it wouldn't surprise me. It seems they realize that QB is the most important position on the field and they certainly don't have the depth that they need.

Those 12 ints were with no Steven Jackson, no Orlando Pace, and an aging Isaac Bruce.  All he had was Torry Holt and hes great and all but its not enough.  I think he'll be a good backup.  He can read defenses and has a decent arm and thats all we really need in a backup with AD in the backfield.

I think it would be great if the Vikes could pick up Byron Leftwich, but only if they can pick him up for the league minimum or slightly above. He is still better than Brooks Bollinger. I'm hoping that T-Jack has a breakout year and we don't need these guys. Dixon in the 6th round would be a good pickup, but I bet he goes before that. We could try to pick up Eric Sanders from Univ. of Northern Iowa cheap. The guy is a phenomenal QB and led the Panthers for several years, including a national championship game appearance in 2005 and a 4th in country ranking to finish this year. Even though it is a Div. 1AA school they have a solid program. Benny Sapp came thru there.

The Vikings signed Gus Frerotte? Sweet - where do I pre-order my Super Bowl tickets?

Honestly, Frerotte is nothing more than a poor man's Brad Johnson, and we all know how that experiment turned out. Can anyone tell me what Gus brings to the table that Brad didn't?

I like this it helps us out alittle, but we still need to probably draft a couple QB's anyways!!!!!!!!!! Gus is like 37 and probably won't be here long so I think we should get someone like Brian Brohm, Chad Henne, Joe Flacco, Dennis Dixon, or Colt Brennan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It would be awesome If we got either Brohm, Henne , or Flacco in the 2nd Round and then either Dennis Dixon or Colt Brennan in the 5th round!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He brings mobility, baby!  You need a sundial to time Brad Johnson's 40 yd dash, whereas Gus Frerotte is fast enough to require upgrading to an hourglass.

If the Gus story is true, that would be a good deal for the Vikings.  I think Tarvaris Jackson will do quite well this year, but would be be nice to have an insurance policy not named Bollinger to play backup in case Chilly breaks the China Doll.  The only downside is that this officially signals the end of the Tyler Thigpen dynasty.

If he has the ability he had back in '04 I think he's an upgrade over Bollinger.  His "problem" is that he doesn't hesitate to take shots and reies on receivers to do their thing.  I really think he'll be a fair backup and a mentor.  I hope TJ clicks and stays healthy but if he has to be relieved Freotte rather than Bollinger is the way to go.

What do you guys think of Chris Simms (TB)????

i beleive with whats out there ..let for the taking this was almost our only option ..if we had waited there could be some more cuts coming up before the draft ..i guess you could only call this "best player at the time " chilly and them have done some good ..but then they kind of will turn around and shoot themselfs in the foot ..so to speak. some moves leave me going HUH!. so IDK ..oh yeah im sure we wont be looking to pick up 2 QBs in the draft ..unless were moving to tampa bay ..but any of the 7 top QBs would be nice . i didnt really like what i seen from colt brenanan thou
