No Chance! The Jack Adams will go to Michel Therrien of Pittsburgh. Crosby missing 35 games, Fleury missing 30 games and still being the top team in the East is quite impressive.
Since Boudreau has taken over, the Caps have been one of the best teams in the league with same players when they had the worst record. If he had been there since the beginning they probably would be winning their division and be in the race for 1st in the east. He gets the most out of his players, I know I've seen it first hand in Hershey. Everybody contributes, granted they Ovechkin, but he has great supporting where anyone can be the man on any given night. Boudreau took a bunch of hockey players and made them a team. Go Bruce!
I think Boudreau's record speaks for itself here. No disrespect to Therrien of Pittsburgh who has done a great job with that club this year and has them sitting atop the Eastern conference. But, if you take Boudreau's winning percentage this year and apply it to the first 21 games that he didn't coach this year, the Capitals record for those games could have been 12-6-3 (conservatively) instead of the dreadful 6-14-1 that they went under Hanlon. That would put them at 45-23-10 with 100 pts and in sole possession of the 1 seed. Now I know it's shoulda, coulda, woulda, but after enduring the last 10 years of futility in Washington it's nice to speculate even though the Adams Trophy will probably go to someone like Therrien this year.
Crosby being out is a non-issue. Pitt is better without him for some reason. The argument for Boudreau is compelling just from a numbers perspective, then when you add in the fact that he is working with the same personnel (essentially) that Hanlon started the season with it even more compelling. Remember, it like the MVP - that honor is not intended for the BEST player but for the most VALUABLE player. Sure Therrien has the Pens a the top right now and has done a solid job all year but Boudreau has turned the Caps from worst to ("wooulda shuolda been") first. If only he had started the season at the helm...
He should certainly be considered for the award. If the Capitals make the playoffs I think he has a great chance of winning. Therrien has done a great job, but they were a pretty good team last year as well. Boudreau has completely turned things around for them during the season once he took over.
I think unfortunately he wont win it, but he definately deserves it. Now its basically the same as should OV win the MVP, and everyone snaps and says his (if they dont get in the playoffs) team isnt even in the playoffs. Right, who cares with the turnaround the team has had since he took over, and watching every game it looks as if he improves the players and the team as a whole every game! Thats what a coach is supposed to do, being a caps fan he has made the game so exciting to watch you just never know whats goin to happen next. So yes I believe he should win, and oh yeah lets not listen to those lovely pitt fans who think there coach or team should always win! You take pitts lineup and compare it to the Caps, theres no argument! Pitt has tons of talent without Crosby, which is evident with there wins w/ out him. Malone, Gonch, Hossa, Stall, Sykora, and lets not forget Malkin(who should be a close second for MVP behind OV) are a good team no matter who coaches. Anyways, MR. KIng how the hell can you be a fan of PITT AND WVU? Please tell me you have two kids and one went to each school, cause thats not supposed to happen.
According to NHL.com "The Jack Adams Award is an annual award presented by the National Hockey League Broadcasters' Association to the NHL coach adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success."
Michel Therrien is a solid candidate he's led his team to a respected 45-26-7 so far which is the 3rd best record in the NHL, and sure Sidney Crosby and Marc-Andre Fleury both went down, but the rest of the team was there to pick up the slack and they did.
But here's Bruce Boudreau's case, he took a team that has been declining for years and years who had lost 9 of 10 and were 6-14-1. They had lost two key role guys in captain Chris Clark and Michael Nylander. But Boudreau came in not caring at all about who the Capitals have been in the past (that being the bottom dwellers of the East) and he gave these guys confidence he trusted in all of his players and even when things went rocky at first he never showed a face that was lost and confused, and it has been clear that the Capital players have fed off of it.
Boudreau has contributed the most to his team's success, you can say Ovechkin is responsible for that, but if you want to make a case for Michel Therrien then i'll point to Sidney Crosby (healthy) and an equally good player in Evgeni Malkin.
Boudreau deserves it the most the turn around for that team has been incredible the Penguins had made the playoffs the year before under Therrien.
He shouldn't win because his team won't make the playoffs. Carbonneau has achieved as big a turnaround and his team might finish first in the east. Close call but Carbonneau should get the nod.
I agree that there are some great candidates for this award this year, including Therrien.
As much as I love some of the things he's done in Pittsburgh with the plethora of injuries he's dealt with and the brilliant move he made recently with a certain defenseman with a fat contract who wasn't doing anything on defense, if I had a vote, I'd give it to Boudreau.
If I may refer again to another baseball manager, look at the incredible job Joe Girardi did with a bunch of "nothings" to turn the Marlins' season into a respectable one two years ago. That team didn't make the playoffs either, but he got a well-deserved NL Manager of the Year award.
The criteria for the Jack Adams award doesn't say anything about making the playoffs. It should be awarded to the coach "adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success." Boudreau, IMHO, has done that. He's changed the team's playing style to fit its characters, and he's made the players believe they are great, enabling them to play great and win. Had he coached them all season, I don't think there's a lot of doubt that they would have made the playoffs.
Yet another amazing thing Ted Leonsis has done. That guy's incredible.
The thing I like most about boudreau is the fact that he looks like the kind of guy that gets pissed over having to wait for minute rice , and is so cheap he lives off of toachee crackers from a gas station vending machine. Give me the guy who can rally a bunch of never say die twenty something year olds with a little veterans , thanks to Mcphee and leonisis! Oh yeah by the way ......thanks habs fan for your crystalball huet for an overrated never panned out Brian Sutherby 2nd rounder from the Ducks in 2009! Onward I say Great8 who's possesed to skate!
No. You have the best goal scorer in the league, your team trades for a legit #1 goaltender and you still don't make the playoffs. No chance at coach of the year.
Habfan#1 - Nice call on Caps not making the playoffs - NOT!
crusader8106 - You are right about Caps having the best goal scorer, but if you think that is all he does, you obviously don't watch any of their games. He does so much more. He is the best PLAYER period. And then you say " you still don't make the playoffs" and " no chance at coach of year". LOL!! Again, nice call...NOT!! I doubt that there are any coaches in the league that could equal or surpass what he did. WOW what a turnaround.
