As one of the 12 or so TCU fans who still go to basketball games, this is an interesting pick. Most people here on campus were holding out for Fran Fraschilla, but it wasn't going to happen.

I wanted them to bring in a coach with experience who knows how to win, and this guy looks to be one with 6 straight 20 win seasons. I am glad the AD did not go the route most people expected and bring in a guy who will draw crowds - that's asking too much for a school with a low enrollment where football dominates the athletic scene, and even our football stadium has a hard time filling seats despite always being in the Top 25.

The only question mark I have with Jim Christian is his tournament performance - two blowout losses in both appearances with Kent State. However, for not having made the tournament and only one postseason berth in the past 10 years, I would be more than glad to just get there.

I hope this one turns out good. Any chance he brings some players with him?

My question is why did Kent State let him go?  He has been doing a good job, did he want too much money?

Congrats on the hire, Accnodefense.  The Mountain West Conference really appears to be on the rise, and it would be great if TCU can start becoming a factor on a yearly basis.

By the way...my heart is still beating fast after that MWC first round game.  17-23 from 3?  Yikes!

It was a good hire and like you said, better to get someone hungry than a big name coach.  If he does well at TCU though you many only have him there for 5 years.  Good luck.

Why TCU? Christian has a chance to do much better when the coaching shake-up begins.

TCU is getting one of the best coaches in the country. Christian is a winner. I'm surprise a bigger school like Providence or another high profile school didn't take him. Imagine Texas Christian with a coach named Christian. Sounds like a match. TCU will be a much better team from day 1 and be atop the MWC in a short time.Christian teams play defense, play hard, and are very focused for 40 minutes. This guy is the real deal. I'm sure bigger schools and paydays are down the road for Christian.  This guy is like a young Rick Pitino.  TCU will be able to recruit better player than Kent State. MWC coffers are deeper than the MAC and Christian will get the right players. Kent State had an rpi in the high 20's this year. Christian did it with hard work not MCdonald's All-american's.

being a kent grad, im gonna miss him.  he runs a clean program and was well liked by the student body and players.   He does three things very well, he gets the most out of his players, they all hustle, and the team plays defense.

best of luck.

Well as a fan of Kent I am sad to see this happen.  Hopefully Christian does better than Stan Heath did when he left Kent.
This hurts the MAC, they're gonna need to reload on coaches again pretty soon.

I just don't understand him leaving for TCU.

He was only losing 2 players from a 28 win team. Had the returning MAC player of the year back and had 10 upper-classmen returning.

They seemed to be in amazing shape for a 30 win season and return trip to the tourney, when a win or two would have been possible. Then he could have had much better jobs then TCU.

Surprising, but I wish him all the best, he made a 1 star player in Al Fisher whom nobody recruited into the MAC POY, so he can coach and recruit.
