Okay, I know there are cycling fans out there.

With the current controversy out there right now between the ASO and the UCI, what kind of solution do you think is out there to protect the riders from being forced into not riding in races such as Paris-Nice in order to still be able to ride in national championships, the Olympics and/or the Tour de France.

Johan Bruyneel has suggested late last year that someone outside of cycling needs to oversee the sport to prevent many of the cycling's current problems. Will this work?

I hate it that George Hincapie and others have been forced out of Paris-Nice because of this, and that last year's TdF winner and third-place finisher have been banned from the Tour because of the ASO's stupidity.

Sadly, it all comes down to the money. JUST the money. What happened to Micheal Rasmussen last year was horid! And to listen to Phil Liggett---whom I've always enjoyed---esentially cut-off Bob Roll and give his "good ridence" speach ( the day after he was praising "the chicken" ) showed me that these high-up people live a very nice lifestyle in a sport with scant resources, and they are not about to bite the hand that feeds them ( caviar! ).

For the first time in over a decade, I will not follow Le Tour on TV or race radio. I'm sick of these few self-rightous zealots putting our sprot in a laughing stock light. I may simply go ride several miles on my own and get back in the shape I should be in!

I couldn't agree more with your most recent cycling blog. To think that professional cycling will bicker between 1 organization vs. another (ASO - UCI) as to who is able to participate is absurd! If they are to "clean up the sport," why victimize a new team with Levi and Contador and Bruyneel because of previous rogues who could care less about the sport or integrity? It likens to the oxymoron of "military intelligence." Or, to the US House or Senate, who say they vote for their constituents and not themselves in order to help the US as a whole. Do they think we are imbeciles?
And, so, the Tour de France of 2008 will come and go, sadly without those participating who can help turn-around this conflict.
I will take my ball or bat and go home - that will show them! Jeez!

Leipheimmer and Contador have both created websites so that you can add your name to a petition requesting that they be allowed to ride in the Tour de France.  The two petitions will be sent to the ASO.  Leipheimmer's site is "Let Levi Ride" and Contador's site is "Contador al Tour."  I am not sure how much good it will do but at least they are making an effort.

Ha! Let them fight it out - it will be an epic pissing contest, that's for sure.

I could care less if Astana is shunned this year - Slipsteam/Chipotle is the team of the future.

American cycling needs to emerge from under the Armstrong's inky shadow, and the sooner the better.

Hmm UNC, I agree that it will be a heck of a pissing contest, but they are ruining cycling almost as much as doping is, if not just as bad.

As far as Team Slipstream goes, I agree that they are a great up and coming American team, and Team High Road is another great "American" team (although it's hard to think of them as anything but German, at least now) and I'm pleased that they'll both be riding the TdF, especially Slipstream. Maybe they can be this year's Barloworld.

However, Astana still has some of the best cyclists in the world, and Contador will be a stud for years, barring injury or other problems. He is the most amazing pure climber, and his will to get it done in the TT and on the flats is impressive. And Johan is the best cycling manager in the world, bar none. I know his role is different with Astana, but in pro cycling leadership, no one has his record.

And one more thing: No one has done more for American cycling than Lance. Not even remotely close.
