They had 2 signatures victory during the season against Nebraska and Michigan but they are 0-and-3 against Tournament teams. We all know the cliche about not taking a team lightly but at all aspects of this game, we should advance to Elite 8. The only thing that worried me is that our team is prone to play at the level of our opponents. I hope in this case they know the importance of "Survive and Advance".

I'm definitely not taking anything for granted because the Bruins seem to be winning in spite of themselves lately.  Not intending to put too much credit in the RPI, but Texas A&M was 41st and Western Kentucky is a bit better at 39th (on the other hand, it sure would've been nice if San Diego had won, because they were 94th).  So I'm still worried about Thursday's game.

I know that I've been beating on Shipp for a couple of months now and I certainly didn't see anything last night to cause me to change my mind.  I can understand Mbah a Moute being a bit rusty and at least Westbrook started to show some life at the end of the game.  But I'm about to start a petition drive to have Shipp benched in favor of Keefe or even Lee at this point!

The only silver lining about Josh's horrible performances over the past few months is that he's clearly killed his NBA draft value for this year and should return for another year if he wants to have any chance of being drafted in a respectable spot.  And maybe he can learn how to shoot again during the offseason...

should be a decent matchup friday... i'm a western fan and being in kentucky they don't show many west coast games so i havent seen ucla play much all year. I can tel you wku knows one speed and that's fast! stopping Love maybe impossible for the hilltoppers but I know they will run ya until u puke. How is ucla's overall speed?

One thing to remember about UCLA is that there are a lot of stars this year. Anyone can have a big game on any given night. Remember, 2 years ago, Luc was the star at the beginning of March Madness, but it didn't turn out that way in the end. Shipp will step up when it counts, and that is what matters most.

Unlike the previous 2 years, this current Bruins will force to run fast break feed off from the defense or from Love's inbound pass after opponent score. Depending on our opponents, we can play fast pace but for the most part we'll run half court offense to get Kevin Love touches. Usually in the first half our half court offense will run through Kevin Love to establish the paint. Then on the second half, you'll see more Collison and Westbrook to slash to the basket.

The key for the Bruins is to play their style of basketball, tough D and quick outlets to Shipp and Westbrook.

Western Kentucky will be a tough team but UCLA should pull through as long as they play Bruin basketball

Cheers!

Yes the Bruins survived another game but they got to start showing up for the whole game and not have to worry about coming from behind. They need to have that fire for the whole game and stop waiting until the last 6 minutes or so. They need to get Love involved early and collison and westbrook to drive to the basket. As far as Shipp is concerned I have no idea he just can not hit a basket and they may be our downfall like the last 2 years not hitting the outside shot and falling too far behind against the real good teams. I was real worried about A&M and they proved to be tough, they played a real good game. The Bruins need to come out Thursday and play a full 40 and get after it and I think they will but we need to be ready. Go Bruins

UCLA is probably at its best when running a fast paced game. We can run with the best of them, and not get as winded as others. Collison & Westbrook are an awesome pair, and with an upbeat tempo, you can look for more of the same as last night's game.

Our defense is excellent at controlling the speed of the game, so if they want to slow WKU down, they will. Usually, they can stun a team by making a steal and going for the fast break to the bucket. We may not explode at the beginning of the game, but when WKU is worn out from trying to outrun UCLA, the Bruins will get things going - kinda like a second wind. But actually, just good strategy.

By all odds makers this is a game that UCLA should win. However, in looking at the 16 teams that are left, if I were going to pick an upset this one would be it. These kids at WKU are HUNGRY!  It has certainly been awhile. But, WKU was a final 4 team in 1971. So they have alot of pride to play for.

Seems to me that Big Jim McDaniels was on that 71 WKU team.  They lost to Villanova and Howard Porter in double overtime in the semifinal game.  Mc Daniels was the top scorer and Porter was MVP.  The Bruins won that year with Wicks, Rowe and the late Steve Patterson who had a Huge game in the final scoring 28 points.   Glad to see the Hilltoppers make it back.   I doubt that the Bruins are goin to let the game become a track meet.  Good Defense will control the game tempo.

UCLA should not only win this game but dominate the Hilltoppers. UCLA's athletes are on another level compared to WKU. If they come out flat and are behind once again, i think we should be concerned because this is a team we should not be losing too.

Texas A&M had good athletes and faced pretty good opponents in the BIG 12, UCLA fell behind but clamped down on defense and won the game with 9 seconds to go. If UCLA does this with the HILLTOPPERS from the Sun Belt conference....i would start to question the team.

I feel like UCLA can turn on that extra level when they need to.  They proved time and time again that they can win close games and come from behind and pull off the W. I saw a stat that when a 1 seed faces a 12 seed in the Sweet 16, the 1 seed is 16-0.

Given all this UCLA should be a lock for the Elite 8 and match up with XAVIER. I know when Ben Howland has a week to prepare for opponents, UCLA does not lose. I just hope our shooting improves and once again we can become a 3 point threat.

Im a WKU student and have seen them play there hearts out to some very good teams. WKU is a big threat to UCLA... were huge on the outsides with Rogers,Lee, and Brazelton that can throw up some huge threes...Lee and Brazelton are also amazing on the insides not only that we have alot of seniors I believe 5 that really help support the team...Thursday night is definity going to be a battle to the end UCLA should defintily be affraid

I wouldn't put too much credit on RPI. But if you wanted to gauge on it, we did beat #14, #16, #23, #28, #35, and #37 during the season. The updated RPI as of March 24, 2008, put Western Kentucky at #120 due to all the upset in the Tourney and NIT.

This is a Sweet 16 game and we could throw all those RPI thing out of the window. Bottom line is that we need to show up for the game and not treating the Hilltoppers lightly. The last time Coach Howland lost to Non-Major Conference opponent was against UCSB on December 17, 2003 during his first season. At this point of the post season, Coach Howland will have a defense to match against Western Kentucky. We just have too many talents and athletic players in this team.

Am I missing something here?

Check this CBS Sports edge link here

It indicated that Courtney Lee/Tyrone Brazelton are better than Darren Collison/Russell Westbrook. That must be misprinted, right? Just because Courtney Lee can scores tons of points in the Sun Belt conference that does not mean he can at will against Darren Collison. Tyrone Brazelton is shooting .408 from beyond the arc but he will be guarded by Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year. What about the other way around? Can Lee and Brazelton guard Collison/Westbrook?

I don't know what planet Bruwins lives on, but they must survive off of Nitrous Oxide and Alcohol instead of Oxygen and Water. WKU isn't 120th in the RPI and they aren't 0-3 against Tourney teams. Last I checked, they just beat 2 tourney teams and were 38th in the March 24th RPI. If Davidson can boast a 12 point loss vs. UCLA on the road as a good point, then why can't WKU boast about a 6 point loss to UT? Afterall, UT is #1 in RPI and SOS. But who really gives a hoot? Those young men will play their best and I hope the teams show more class and good sportsmanship than 99% of the people who post on these things. Wait, did I just call out myself? Here's hoping for a great, honest game that both schools and fans can be proud of.

Aloha_Top,

Last time I checked I am still here in planet earth and here is the link of the updated RPI that showed WK at #120 as of 03/24/2008. NCAA didn't update theirs. It's not like I'm just spurting nonsense to put that number out.

Like I was saying, that RPI ranking does not mean anything at this juncture. But in order to beat WK, we need to go to Kevin Love early and often.
