I'll keep this short an sweet, I watched at least three officiating takeovers today, the UCLA - aTm game, the Marquette - Stanford game, and the KU - UNLV game were all a bunch of crap, this is ruining college basketball, the games are gonna be watched more if they can play, and frankly the game wasn't invented so that the refs could decide games and try to get their names in the freaking news.

Agreed on all fronts. As much a fan of Marquette as I am, it was a bit bizarre to see USC's coach get tossed. But no worries, though, as the stripes more than made up for it with some horrific ghost calls on Marquette late in the game.

Yeah they were even awful during the WVU and Duke game, I woke up in the middle of that game and the refs called something on each end every time the ball went there, and 20 minutes later I was back to sleep...
Basketball needs consistency, and these referees are crapping on it.

I get you, I do. I officiate college ball here in Canada. There are over-zealous officials in every city. Some live for that moment on the stage as do players. It's dangerous to want to be more than just an arbitrator of the sport. The problem with the game is that it has become so physical, so fast, so athletic, that it's almost impossible for mere mortals to officiate games fairly. I constantly find myself clamping on the whistle, reminding myself to be reactive and not pro-active. Tough thing to do. Strangely, though, the easier games to officiate are the ones when you let the players determine the pace and pounding themselves.

Couldn't agree more, Justin. Terrible officiating yesterday.

I thought the Duke - WVU ame was terribly officiated. There were some 6 travels called in six possessions, and over 40 fouls in the game, an unacceptable number of which were completely bogus. I was rooting for WVU, my brother for Duke, and we both turned against the officials. Just terrible game calling.

I agree. The refs were horrible. That A&M game was one of the worse games I have seen. How did they blow the whistle all night long and then not blow the whistle on A&M's last shot when he was hacked and mugged by half the team. Surely it wasn't because the game was in California with a pro UCLA fan base? They couldn't have feared for their lives could they? The NCAA should hand down some suspensions and some reprimands for the refs this last weekend.

It is true that the KU-UNLV officiating was terrible. However, as a KU alum, I really expected more heart from the Hawks. I do not believe the officiating was the cause of them missing their freethrows, taking ill-advised (and uncharacteristic) 3-point shots, and running a sloppy offense--in addition to hacking driving UNLV guards (yeah I'm talking to you Kaun). I think officiating leads to some parity in the tourney but as long as the game is called consistently for both teams then this type of officiating won't threaten the outcome of the game--i.e. KU wins by 19 even thought they played like crap. However, I am still pissed about last seasons KU-UCLA game, where the officials decided to let the more physical UCLA team have their way with KU, while calling every ticky-tack foul on KU's end. I am just waiting for KU's match-up with Villian-ova, who will no doubt be pushing the skinny KU guards around the court. I really hope the officials let both teams play hard because if these two teams are allowed to play their game this could be one of the tourneys best games.

This has been a sad trend over the last few years. The officials in the K-State/USC game ought to be embarassed with the ticky-tack and flat out phantom calls, especially the quick fouls on Beasley. Name me one person alive who goes to a game to see a ref work... Any star matchups will have the marquee names on the bench because of the zebras egos.
