I'm ok with it. I would have been happy with Wags as well. I do think the key to success rests with the fans and supporters. We got the UH administration's attention at one point, but if we don't keep them focused on support and resources for the program, filling all the management slots won't make much difference. The point that's critical is that there isn't going to be the resources unless the fans actually start filling every seat at every game. We've gt a bad habit of not showing up for the small stuff and then wondering why there isn't the resources to move up to, and deal with, the big stuff.

I think he's a great choice with strong Hawai`i ties:

-UH grad and former offensive lineman

-executive director of the Sheraton Hawai`i Bowl

-worked in the UH Athletics Dept. for many years

"I'm honored and humbled to represent something that means so much to the people of Hawai'i," Donovan said. "The University of Hawai'i Athletics Department really belongs to everyone in the state and we'll work hard everyday to make everyone welcome and appreciated for their support."

He's already soliciting the fans' support and I hope he gets it.  Best of luck to him.

Maui No Ka Oi, Right now he is the right man at the right place and time.

I support him being a UH grad, player, and administrator.   This is much better than bringing someone from the outside like happened the last time.

We want the best fo Hawai'i and the athletic programs.   As a former offensive lineman hopefully he can help the football program and do something about the facilities.

He should also bring credibility, better communication and a sense of community support that was missing with his predecessor.  He has these things plus his experiences on O'ahu.  I am more pleased with Donovan compared to others up for the job who did not have his track record and local ties.

 Donovan No ka oi!

Q&A session with Jim Donovan:

He's really got his work cut out for him, but he seems willing and able to "tackle" the challenges as new AD.  Good luck Jim Donovan and welcome on board!

Compared to Frazier, Donovan is a genius....and Hawaii needs that in an AD because it's going to take one to clean up after Frazier and the financial abyss that he's left the program in. Donovan was clearly the right choice as AD for all the reasons cited above. Good Call.

I wouldn't say that he is a genius, he may be known as a hard worker and as a people person but he has his work cut out for him and an uphill climb.

Before you call him a genius give him some time.  The next couple of years will go by fast.

I wouldn't say he was a genius either, Donovan was after all involved in the selection process that brought Frazier over to Hawaii as it's AD 3 years ago....but hindsight is 20-20 and he will no doubt be an improvement over Frazier. Of course, that's not saying much. Let's hope he can cut the mustard.

Actually Green Goblin Donovan was a candidate the last time when they hired Frazier so he couldn't have been apart of the selection committee.  He actually got shafted by Frazier so that the "Worm" could bring in one of his boys as assistant AD.

Aloha Smots,

Must've misread the paper, my bad. I am ecstatic they finally gave Donovan the opportunity to show what he can do. As Kanaka put it....it will be an "uphill" battle to cleanup the financial carnage committed by Frazier's administration. Okay i'll get off my soapbox now.
