I've been trying to find a link, but apparently the Vikings have signed safety Michael Boulware. This is on the bottom line of ESPNews. I don't know too much about this guy besides he plays for the Texans and used to play for the Seahawks. This is probably more of a depth move.

If they're signing a safety or anyone for depth it's a good indication they won't be drafting the position. The Vikes are signing the lesser known players so they can go after the players they want instead of need in the draft.

The Vikings signed free agent Michael Boulware today, giving them depth at safety. Boulware came in for a visit today; he visited with the Carolina Panthers on Monday. “I had a great meeting with the coaches and liked the direction that the organization is going,” Boulware told my colleague Kevin Seifert as he rode to the airport. “I think this gives me a great opportunity to come here and get better as a player.”

Boulware spent last season with the Houston Texans and the organization wanted to use him at linebacker. Boulware will serve as a backup safety and also play on special teams. The Vikings now have Darren Sharper and Madieu Williams as their starting safeties; Boulware and Eric Frampton are the backups.

UPDATE: Also signing today was DT Kendrick Allen, who was last with Green Bay in 2006. He played in two games and spent the rest of the season on injured reserve.

I like this signing! This is a good move for the team and gives the secondary added depth.

I know they will attack the deficiency at DE soon enough. Looking more and more like they will do it in the draft rather then through free agency. Perhaps they might be considering moving up in the draft with trades. Who knows what the front office is really thinking, but to be honest, I like the moves they have made!

Go Vikes!

Good solid pick-up, getting a veteran safety with starting experience. That makes the purple deep at safety. If they can trade up to get Harvey they will have had an A+ offseason.

This guy is a freakin stud in Madden 05. I hope he can play as good in the game for the Vikings as in real life....

-On Madden 05 on my vikings team, he had 17 ints.....

Fact- I got him the same year, and during free agency as the vikings.....maybe a sign...kinda creepy

A great signing, he will be a valuable backup. takes some of the sting out of losing Tank Williams and Mike Doss.

Wow guys , I don't know about this guy ! I'm glad he's not a projected starter ! Michael Boulware played in 16 games , had 11 tackles , and zero INTs . Not recomended as a fantasy pick up . . . I hope he can turn out to be a diamond in the rough for the Vikings . I wouldn't assume that the Vikings WON'T draft any more safeties . This guy might not make it thru training camp !

He may have had a bad year last year, but look at his stats while with the Seahawks.  63 tackles and 5 interceptions his rookie year, 73 tackles and 4 interceptions his second year, 39 tackles 2 interceptions his third year, and as you have already said 11 tackles and 0 interceptions with the Texans.   However, his rookie year he only started four games, his second year he started the full 16, his third year he started only 8, and with the Texans he started 0 games.  Therefore with more limited play chances are production would go down.  His rookie year was phenominal for only starting four games.  Now as for the decrease in number of games started from his second year to his third year, I do not have an answer (maybe he was injured, or maybe he was beaten out of the position).  He had problems obviously in Houston because he never started a game.  I know this is a horrible analogy, but think about it like the Peppers situation, I know he is one of the best at his position but it is the only similar situation I can come up with off the top of my head.  He dominated the league for something like five seasons and than had one bad year last year, would you still consider him a dominant DE?  I know Boulware never was as dominant as Julius Peppers at Michael's position (safety) but he had some good years prior to going to the Texans, if he can repeat similar number that he had with the Seahawks I am more than fine with that from our backup safety.

That would be the current strong safety-Darren Sharper. Why, I do not know.
