A&M beat Texas this year, so they are a good team, but I think BYU can beat them. The UCLA game dissappoints me. We got gipped again on seeds. This team is better then last year's and we get the same seed. BYU never gets any respect.

So, Texas A&M beat Texas this year, so they have a decent team. I am a little worried because BYU never does well in the tournament. I do think BYU deserved a 7 seed, at least. BYU needs to make a good run, upset UCLA, which is possible, in order to get some respect for next year. We return basically the same squad, maybe better, next year.

Yea, Texas A&M beat Texas this year, but keep in mind that you guys played UNC and MS tough this year and beat a highly ranked Louisville. I think you guys have a more then decent chance at beating A&M and I think you will give UCLA everything they want too. At least you got to stay here in the West and you don't have to play UNC in the East.

i'll tell you about the Aggies if you tell me about the... uh... BYUins??
lol, sorry
anyways, A&M has a big inside game with star freshman DeAndre Jordan, he was sick last week in the Big XII tourney, but he'll show up this week, hungry to help his team win again
when they don't have Jordan in, they have Sophomore Brian Davis... big guy, pretty decent, and very temperamental. We've got Muhlbach who's probably the best big man on Defense
on the outside we have Josh Carter, who last year was the best Freshman 3 point shooter, but he hasn't been extremely hot this year...
we've also got Dominque Kirk, who had two HUGE games in the Big XII tournament, going something like 6-10 from behind the line... i suspect he'll carry that momentum into the game
we have some all purpose guys too... most notably Joseph Jones... he's our leading scorer, and he can sink it from the 3 or from right under your nose. And don't forget about Donald Sloan... who's mother died the Thursday that the Big XII tourney started, and had one of his best games
Ya'll mentioned how we beat Texas... very true... we did... that may have been our second best game all year in fact... but i've got to shed some light on that situation
we were playing at home, and if you know remotely anything about the aggies is how big of a home court advantage they have, both basketball, and especially football... plus we played our absolute best that night
then we went and played t.u. again on their court... and had our metaphorical a$$es handed to us on a silver platter...
A&M has been the most inconsistent team i've ever seen this season... so there's no telling which one you will see... i'd like to think it will be the team from the Big XII tourney, that beat a tough Kansas St. and held a very close game with a very tough Kansas
if the other team that lost to Oklahoma St. at home, or to Texas by 20 some odd points... or to Nebraska or Oklahoma at all shows up... congrats on your first round win
A&M has extremely good talent... enough to go to the final 8 even, but they need to harness it... hopefully they can next year
i think we'll beat BYU first round though
(btw... we also thought we would be a 7 seed at least... after knocking off Kansas St. and after Baylor fell in the first round Big XII tourny)
good luck

I have not seen very much of A&M this year at all, so I'm not sure what to expect. I'm hoping that it will be a great game and that the cougars can pull it off, but that may not happen if BYU chokes in the 2nd half like they have in every game they've lost this year (michigan state, north carolina, unlv).

The Aggies blow hot and cold. If they are hot they can be
competitive with a final 4 team. If they are cold they can't
beat a girl's HS team. This year they set the NCAA record
of 16+minutes without a field goal. They set a Big 12
record of only 10 points in the first half of a game. They
play tough man-to-man and never quit. Its their shooting
(and offense) that seems to disappear from time-to-time,
regardless of the level of the competition.

A&M is a team that should pound it inside and allow this to create their outside jumpshots. When they do this, they are one of the elite teams as they would have beaten Kansas when they did this yesterday if Brandon Rush didn't have a career night. However, when A&M decides to just rely on the jumpshot and not try and get it inside to their big men, this is when they look like crap and go on droughts like they did against Oklahoma.

it all depends which byu team decides to show up. the one i, as a byu fan, hope shows up is this one- we have a huge man trent plaisted who is pretty quick for a big man. he was a freshman all-american and plays tight d and can cause some serious problems for teams. then backing him up is a sophmore chris miles who is very strong and a great defender. big sophmore jonathan tavernari can light it up from three land when he's hot and plays good d. when he's having an on night there's no stopping him. junior lee cummard is the mvp of this team being mwc co-player of the year. he is a leader stepping up when the team is in need and hitting clutch shots. he's very confident. his long arms can cause problems for opposing offenses. seniors sam burgess and ben murdock can also be very good. we also have a bunch of great freshman and sophmores in jimmer fredete, chris collinsworth, archie rose, and when this teams on they can beat any team in the country.
but the team that i hope does not show up... big man trent plaisted can tend to play scared and back down on defense. he loses confidence and his game goes down from there and he gets into foul trouble. jonathan tavernari shoots dumb shots and too many of them which gives opposing teams chances to go on long runs. lee cummard is the only one doing anything out there and gets himself in foul trouble. sam burgess plays dumb ball and we have to put in our young guys (who can do very well but inexperience tends to show at important times) and we slowly fall apart.
we can be a very good team. we are a better team than our seed shows. but we aren't consistent enough. this is going to be a spectacular team next year, we're still young, we can cause you problems but it just depends. i'm thrilled, can't wait. i have only seen you guys play once this year and that was at oklahoma, which you guys probably know wasn't pretty, but i'm sure it didn't show what you guys can really do. can't wait.. see you in Aneheim.
Go cougars!

Like ndogg08 said if we get the inside game rolling, you better watch out. But if we struggle yearly you guys have a good chance at beating us. I think we are an Elite 8 team as long as we play smart. If we play sloppy and try for personal best than we will get destroyed by BYU.
Good Luck and

You forgot to mention you lost your coach last year too Texas A&M. I think BYU will rock your world but i'm just a bias spectator who has seen both teams play. Goodluck to both teams!

I'm a Jayhawks and Cougar fan (I go to BYU, but I'm from Kansas) and it scares the crap out of me that we're playing A&M the first game of the tourney. I follow the Big XII still (Kansas is my favorite team), and A&M have been recently playing like the team they should've been all season. They just played an awesome game against Kansas that went to the end of the wire. Both BYU and A&M are similar in that they have two different teams that show up to play. I think for BYU to win, they have to bring their A game while the Aggies have an off night. I think if both teams play on the same intensity level, A&M will win the game. I actually have Texas A&M winning the game on my bracket. I'm not being a bad BYU fan, I'm just being realistic who I think will win.

Big UNLV rebels/MWC fan here, but I also follow the Big 12 somewhat (since I'm from that region). i think this thread has got it right. A&M should win but they are inconsistent. BYU is probably more of a consistent team but by far less talented. A&M needs to play at least above average to beat BYU playing at their best. Unfortunately, in the end, A&M will probably take it due to their inside presence. Either way, like UNLV with North Carolina, one of the teams got UCLA. Not good!

Good luck, BYU! They're a tough team, but can be had. Both teams seem to have been riding a roller coaster this year, looking very good with ocassional lapses. Plaisted has to play like he did against UNC and Louisville.

Good luck. This is a tough match up, but the advantage this year is location. I'm sure you'll get a lot of fans down to disneyland. If you win the first round and even have a decent showing in the second it will help you out a lot next year. It seems like the selection committe doesn't like to move mid-majors too high until they prove themselves in post-season play.
