As a Vikings fan, may I be the first to say good riddance. I was pretty tired of Packer fans thinking that Brett's excrement didn't have a foul odor.

Mind you, I am not arguing AT ALL about his greatness or place in the history books, but when you have to listen to one guy being universally stroked off and excused for every step of the way, it's sort of irritating...and by "sort of", I mean "really".

Now Packer fans enter a new period known as "I remember when Brett Favre was playing."

Greatest quarterback ever? He's gotta be in the discussion. But according to most Packer fans, he cured cancer AND polio while rescuing baby kittens from a burning house.

haha as a Lions fan i know exactly what you are talking about.  I still think Packers will be decent next year with rogers.  But i was also sick of the packer fans thinking brett farve was the second coming of Jesus Christ or JC as we like to call him.  I still love the guy and think he is great but thank god maybe Lions or Vikings NFC North Champs? well i don't lions but good luck vikings lol.

Ask yourself this....how would the Viking fans treat a Hall of Fame QB that played for them for umpteen years, won Superbowls, and played every game?  I would imagine they would worship the ground he walked on...is that not true?

By the way, a Lions fan has no place to comment on that.  Until your team wins more than 6 games, you cannot belittle other teams fans...

I wouldn't really worship the ground ANY football player walked on because...well...he's a football player. And again, I'm not arguing his place in history or how great he was, which directly led to how much I disliked him as a fan of "the other guy".

And no, I'm not sure what your "you know what" is... :-)

You are saying how much you hate the fact that Packers fans reveer Favre...I believe that a QB of Farve's caliber in Viking country would be treated that same way Farve was treated in Green Bay.  You can say that you won't treat a QB that way, but most of the fans will.

I received this in a forward today and think it just about sums it up.  At one time he was great but that was about 10 years ago.

Let's interrupt the deification of Brett Favre for a moment to examine the second half of his career.

Since beating the 49ers in the 1997 NFC Championship Game, Favre has won just three of 10 playoff games. Eli Manning had more playoff wins in a 29-day span this year than Favre has in the last decade.

Yes, Favre won a Super Bowl 11 years ago. Good for him. But while his career arc has spiraled downward, the sickening fawning over him has only grown worse.

Favre has thrown two of the worst playoff interceptions in NFL history - Brian Dawkins in overtime against the Eagles in the 4thand-26 game in 2003 and last month against the Giants. He's the only quarterback in NFL history to throw overtime interceptions in two different playoff games.

Since 2002, Favre is 2-3 in home playoff games, losing to Michael Vick, Daunte Culpepper and Eli Manning. The Packers have lost as many home playoff games under Favre in the last six years as they lost from 1921 through 2001. In his last nine playoff games, Favre has thrown 16 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.

Yet the football hype machine still stubbornly paints Favre as this hallowed icon of Americana, a symbol of all that is right with sports, a Wild West gun-slinging good ol' boy. There's Brett on the farm! There's Brett with his family! There's Brett on the cover of Sports Illustrated! There's Brett throwing another overtime interception!

Favre was the best in the game once upon a time. Those days are gone. Even if nobody wants to admit it.

Typical queens fans. At least we will always have fond memories of 253 consecutive regular season starts and virtually every major record in the NFL plus a couple of Super Bowls. All the purple fans have is Wide Left, Noooooooooooo, the Love Boat, etc, etc, etc. Worry about your own pathetic franchise that will be in L.A. come 2011.

John Madden and Terry Bradshaw are probably hanging from rafters right now.  Those guys were two of the worst when it came to genuflecting whenever Favre walked on the field.  Every time there was a Packers game with John Madden I cringed.

I hear you had a lot to do with those Super Bowl victories. You know, since I'm going out on a limb and saying you were more than likely not even ALIVE for two of them. Eleven years ago, my friend. Living in the past is dangerous.

Great post QBedlam. I am so sick of the hero worshipping that goes on with this piece of trash. I will fondly remember Brett Favre for that flat-out awful interception against the Giants. It was a perfect way for a loser like him to go out. I wouldn't have mided Favre as much if he wasn't so universally worshipped everywhere in the media. From fat lards like John Madden and Peter King, to the ESPN hype machine. Everyone loves Brett.

Well guess what. Not everyone loves him, and I for one am ecstatic to see him go. Maybe he should pop some pain killers and go for a car ride. Later you overrated bum.
