First off, lennon_lives, you are EXACTLY right! I'm giving you 5 stars.

StanDiego55, I thought you meant that we were missing Marvin entirely. I'm sorry about the miss-understanding.

ok everyone needs to get the sh** straight.  i never said i hated dungy, actually i love the guy.  he coaches with class, dignity, and silence.  however i bleieve that if the Colts are going to win another superbowl they need caldwell, honestly lets say the pats beat us in the afc title game.  what wud us the colts have?? S***!!

Playoff losses under dungy

2002  Jets 41-0!!!!!!!

2003  Patriots 24-14!!

2004  Patriots  20-3

2005  Steelers 21-18

2007  Chargers 28-24

and if the colts didnt get there sh** straight at halftime,

2006  Patriots 21-6 at the half,  Dungy and manning wud be the laughing stock of the nfl.

thankfully we got are superbowl, i wudnt have been able to deal with the pat fans if they won  PHEWWWWWWW!

Playoff losses under dungy

2002  Jets 41-0!!!!!!! - Defense sucked (no running game with Edge being hurt)

2003  Patriots 24-14!! - Defense sucked

2004  Patriots  20-3 - Defense sucked

2005  Steelers 21-18 - Defense was overrated (Colts played the worst offenses that year)

2007  Chargers 28-24 - Defense was great but had no pass rush depth

Point blank, defense wins the hardware. Sure we had a great offense during most of those years but as shown by most Superbowl winners you MUST have a defense to back that up.

What I don't think people realize is that when Dungy took over he had hardly anything to work with to make his style of defense successful. He was using players that Polian drafted for Mora and trying to adapt them to the Cover 2 scheme. Big LB's and small cover corners is going to make that really hard to accomplish. Dungy needs the exact opposite. With only so many rounds in the draft, its hard to re-do a whole defense in a short amount of time. I really commend Dungy for what he has done with this Colts team and what he's had to really change and turn around. Its not a coincidence that it took him 5 years to finally build a reputable defense in Tampa and the EXACT same amount of time to turn the Colts defense into one of the league elite.
Its not Dungy's fault that Freeney and so many other defensive players got hurt throughout the year. S*** happens. You can't win them all. I'm sure they would love to have it that way but its impossible. They learned from their mistakes last year and I trust Polian and Dungy to have those matters corrected coming into this season.

Playoff losses under dungy

2002  Jets 41-0!!!!!!!   On the road

2003  Patriots 24-14!!   On the road and an underdog (Pats win Super Bowl)

2004  Patriots  20-3  On the road (Pats win Super Bowl)

2005  Steelers 21-18   Pitt went on to win Super Bowl

2007  Chargers 28-24  Only unacceptable loss he has had.

2006  held one of the best RB's in the league to 50 some odd yards. (Larry Johnson)

2006  Won on the road to the # 2 seed

2006  Accomplished the biggest comeback in championship game history

The Colts beat 3 of the top 6 defenses in the playoffs in 2006. (Bears, Pats, Ravens)

I don't think the "Defense let us down" argument holds water. I'll throw out the Jets loss because that was Dungy's first year and the defense really did stink. I'm also going to throw out the Chargers loss because the Colts were slightly under-manned and the Chargers are a much better team than some of you are giving them credit for.

Look at the middle 3 games. Giving up an average of less than 22 points to playoff teams is not bad. However look at the offensive output: 11.6 average points per game for the "vaunted" Peyton Manning led Colts offense? That's pathetic. I'm sorry but it is Manning and company that have let the Colts down in the playoffs, not the defense.

I'm not saying Manning is a bad quarterback or a choker or any of the nonsense that Pats fans have brought up over the years, but facts are facts.

as much as i love Peyton Manning, standiego55 is right.

peyton manning in playoffs

2002= 0 points

2003= 14 points

2004= 3 points

2005= 18 points

i mean if u wanna beat playoff teams sometimes you have to score at least 20 points, COME ON! altho they did beat the Ravens 15-6, ravens were overrated

Don't forget about these "Peyton Manning in playoffs" numbers.

2003  vs. Denver    5 TD's  377 yards   158.3 rating

2003  at  Kansas City    3 TD's   304 yards   138.7 rating

2004  vs. Denver    4 TD's   458 yards     145.7 rating

2005  the Pitt game they lost    1 TD  0 INT's   290 yards    90.9 rating

2007  the Charger game they lost     3 TD's   402 yards     97.7 rating

Not to mention the lights out second half he had in the AFCCG in 2006.

I would love to see a QB with those kind of numbers in 3 playoff games, let alone 5 playoff games.      &nbs p;      &n bsp;

Thank you coltwillwin. A side note to my numbers I posted......

Denver had the 6th rated pass D in each of those years.
