Not knocking you Mashers42... because i agree with you 100%... but..
I'm really starting to get annoyed with colleges being referred to by their acronym. It causes alot of confusion. there are teams that have the same name of them. But i think it would make fans more aware of teams and players... like Mike Jenkins from USF which is South Florida... not UCF, which is Central Florida, the teams always get mixed up. Even though they are in two different divisions. BTW, Kevin Smith out of Central Florida is outstanding. Someone mentioned the other draft worthy player to come out of South Florida, Ben Moffit... here is a few numbers
Ben Moffit - Middle Linebacker - USF
6'2" 239lbs, he ran a 4.7 40
In college Moffit played 36 games starting 30 of them, he has 231 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks.
"Classic Overachiever with limited natural ability"
I personally think he gets less credit than he should because of the school he is from
Moffit actually fits the Patriots mold very well, with the biggest thing going against him is experience. He is touted as a smart player intensity player that rarely gets caught out of posistion. Biggest concern is strength. He is a good open field defender and a reliable tackler, but he occasionally gets pushed back and has trouble getting off blocks.
People have him in the 10-15 range in terms of Best Overall Middle Linebacker. But because he fits the Patriots style I could see him as a likely candidate for 3rd or 4th round.

I'll throw a name out that nobody has mentioned. How about LB Keith Rivers from Southern Cal with the 7th pick?
He's listed as an outside linebacker but he has the size and versatility to play both inside and outside. He's probably the only LB prospect in this years class that has the upside to become an elite player. The more I read about him the more I can see him in a Patriots uniform. He is a high character guy with great leadership qualities.
To me, none of the CB's in the class stand out enough to take with a top ten pick. The position is so deep that they could probably still get a really good one with their pick at the end of round 2.

Not that we need depth at the posisition... but I've figured out who i want with the 63rd pick. And I think he will drop... Chris Johnson.
If that name rings a bell its because he was the fastest (so far) in the NFL Combine 40.. (4.24, last years fastest was Yamon Figures with a 4.30)
Now i know what your saying, how is the fastest guy in the draft gonna slip to 63rd... a few things
-he's only 5'1"... which is way below NFL size, by comparison Wes Welker (who i believe is the smallest Patriot) is 5'9"
-Durability has been an issue
My thought is if you put him in a receiving running back role, much like Kevin Faulk, he could excel, and make those passes to the flat much more deadly. This also lowers his playing time so he would be less likely to get injured, being small only helps elusivness, which is what is so important in that role. The biggest downside to this is that when he lines up, nobody is gonna guess what he is there for... the only deceiving is throwing the ball to someone else. He also played alot of kick and punt returning, so thats a +.
I love what Kevin Faulk does and he should remain the starter (for that role)... but I think he will retire after this year (as long as it is successful)

I've seen some mock drafts listing the Patriots as taking Ryan Clady, a tackle out of Boise State. Why? Yes, the line should have played better in the Super Bowl, but they did an amazing job the rest of the year, and they're still relatively young and all under contract-- why waste a high pick instead of just getting potential back-ups in the later rounds?
I've also read on this thread about the lack of linebacker in the draft. Let me first say that this is a relatively weak draft overall, and I normally agree with Bill Belichick and the Patriots when they hold off on taking LBs in the early rounds, but I think if they hold onto the #7 pick, Vernon Gholston out of Ohio State would be a decent pick. He would be great on the outside, and with the overall age/lack of depth at LB, he could be valuable (and with Tedy Bruschi and Junior Seau potentially done, this could mean Vrable shifts back to the inside once Colvin comes back).
I also like Aquib Talib, the CB out of Kansas State, but #7 is way too high a pick for him. I like the idea of a tall and lanky CB playing in a division against potentially 4 inexperienced QBs. But then again, does anyone else remember the last CB the Pats drafted out of Kansas State? That would be Chris Canty, who Bill Parcells took, and who hung around the roster for about 2 years before being cut.
I think we all agree, however, that the chances of the Patriots keeping the #7 pick isn't all that likely. In a weak draft, I'd love to see them move down to a lower pick, grab a CB or LB, and also get an additional 2nd rounder this year or potentially a 1st rounder next year (as they did with the 49ers in the '07 draft... thankfully).

Want me to tell you who I think might be the Drafts best hidden jem? CB Dominique Rogers-Cromartie of Tennessee State. Did you guys see him at the Senior Bowl? He's and execeptional shutout corner, that is capable of intercepting the pass at any given time. He has a great 6'2 184 Frame is comparible to most WRs. I have a gut feeling that this guy might be a standout in tommarrow's combine. If you want to see a profile go to the link at the bottom.

Hip,Hip,Hooray...finally 1 person here I have some respect for..Dawniebrat..someone who dug a little and realized that I was not a Bears fan. Also, I live amidst most of you. 30 minutes from Choker,ah,I mean Gillette Stadium
Ch46-Ne10 read that you were a Titans fan. So you do relize if you knew anything about football that your franchise you claim your a "fan" of blew a 35-3 second half lead in a playoff game right. If that's not the definition of CHOKERS I don't know what is.
BTW how's David Givens working out for ya???
You live 30 min form gillette stadium so your one of those people who like to bust balls and hate of the local team because everyone around you is a fan. And you picked the titans to be a "fan" of this week. You probably the biggest pats fan here have a Tom Brady fathead on your wall and Bellichick cut off hoddie. If your gonna bust balls you gotta come with some better smack that calling the pats chokers if you claim to be a titans "fan". Go back to google and find another team to bandwagon to talk about spygate or how the pats have old linbackers or whatever.
and why Ch46-Ne10 why not GB35-NE21 or NYG17-NE14.
I got any idea how about STL23-TEN16
What Dyson can't break a tackle CHOKER
Oh I forgot you were a Rams fan that year Greatest show on Turf

Good call, AZ. The Patriots actually met with him at the Combine and threw him a curve ball by asking him to draw up a defense. He picked the Cover-2 scheme since, as he put it, it was easy.
A local sports analyst here in Boston says he's intriguing and is climbing up the draft boards because of his size and athleticism.

I think the Patriots should look at some of the top def. players for the draft Glenn dorsey, Chris long and Vernon gholston, sedrick ellis along with the aqib talib and all these other corners that have been named should be around at #7 if the pats can get a corner great..but if a guy like chris long is there at seven i think the pats should take them...Pass rush is what beat the pats in the SB they should learn from that loss and build a stronger one themselves...
