Who do you all want to start at QB next year, and why?

i'm more like undecided... but i lean towards Johnson... from the few times i saw him play this season he looked great and definitely good enough to be the starter
on the other hand McGee was inconsistent at times and made some bad decisions on top of that
with some game experience... Johnson will be the next great thing at A&M

With Sherman and a new offense, I would not name a starting QB and have every QB on the team compete for it. I think McGee has the head to pick up the offense and be effective. But I am not sure Johnson does.

McGee. Game experience, runs the option well, tough, motivational leader. He's got everything we want and need, why should he sit out? If JJ is athletic enough he should play WR. That's just my opinion, but why shouldn't Sherman at least try it?

McGee. He has game experience.
I think he is a good qb. He had an injured shoulder last season which he played through. Also, there was bad play calling, problems with the o-line, and his wide recieving core didn't get open. I can't tell you how many times I was watching the game and the broadcasters would show us Mcgee's view of the field and how nobody was open. We got coverage sacked a lot.
Johnson can wait another year, McGee is a senior and a leader.

I voted for McGee... Sherman has been quoted as saying that McGee is the starter....
A better question would be... Who takes over after McGee graduates???
Johnson
Tannehill
Dorman
Or Shepard who Sherman is recruiting hard & has been quoted by Shepard on Rivals as saying that if he went to A&M, Sherman would give him the shot to start RIGHT AWAY....
The battle for the QB throne after McGee Grads is going to be an interesting thing to watch.
Especially if JJ or Ryan don't win it. Both played WR in high school & one or both could easily be moved to WR if Dorman or Shepard win the starting job after McGee grads....
The thing is with JJ, Ryan & Shepard, all 3 are such AWESOME talents, that to keep them all off the field when it's obvious what they can bring to the team as a WR, would just be dumb.
Also... lets not forget that A&M has also offered Garrett Gilbert (5 Star Pro Style QB) out of Austin TX in the class of 2009. If Shepard commits, then Gilbert is out & if Gilbert commits, then Shepard is out & also either Ryan or JJ will almost be certainly moved to WR.
People don't like to think of JJ moving to WR because they are in love with the whole possibility of him being the next Vince Young but for A&M....
As great as that would be, I think people need to remember that many teams have been successful before & after VY with different kinds of QB's....
Also having a WR with JJ's talents to compliment Jeff Fuller at WR along with the rest of the WR's we already have at the position could be a huge PLUS for A&M... Especially since teams will be forced to respect Mike, Lane & McGee and their rushing ability.

Gilbert has already committed to Texas and most players who do that so early tend to stick to it. Shepard has already come out and said Michigan is his #1 school right now but after Junior Day at A&M last weekend I'd say we are right there with him.
As for current QB, I think McGee should start with Johnson seeing some minimal time as a change of pace QB. Not in the 4th quarter or anything, but when we can afford to do so. Johnson so far defenitely looks like McGee's predecesor and Dorman will most likely be redshirted this year with so many options at QB for us.

I agree with Texas_Aggies#1, McGee is probably one of the better leaders I have every seen on the field. He is good at the option (still makes a few mistakes though), really tough and has game experience. Lets not forget he does have an arm we just need to find a way to use it. If we can find some fast WR with good hands next year I think we will be okay if not, it will not matter who is our QB. We will not be throwing the ball much.
With that said I think Sherman needs to go into spring drills and let the two players decide who should start. Who ever preforms the best should get the start.

McGee should be the starter, hands-down. The guy has more heart than anyone on our team, and prob more than 90% of the players that have ever stepped onto the field. He has proven that he can lead the team down the field in the 4th (would've done it against PSU had it not been for penalties).
I still firmly believe that he would be a very prolific passer had he not been thrown into Fran's crap-tastic offense. He's still quite capable of doing it under Sherman. He'll be at a bit of a disadvantage because he just under-went surgery, and will prob miss most of the off-season. Hopefuly he can finish out his Sr year, and leave Johnson with a great platform to build on.
Johnson has the potential to be one of the best QBs in the HISTORY of CFB, but I wanna to see him start his Jr year. No chance for injury while the team is re-building and learning a new offense. Let's be real honest with ourselves.. We aren't winning alot of games next season. Let McGee finish what he tried to start.. JJ will have 2 years to get us a B12 title and BCS birth.

I want to see whoever wins the position to be starting. McGee may be tough as nails and good at talking the talk and carrying the Aggie spirit, but he still doesn't walk on water and we have lost some games because of him too. I'm not saying to can him, just to give Johnson a chance in spring football and decide from there from their performances.
Hey Aggieland my old, buddy...theoretical question.....IF you think Johnson could be one of the greatest QB's ever (which is highly debatable)......wouldn't it make sense to start him ASAP regardless of what McGee has already done? (My point here - Obviously McGee will not go down as one of the geatest ever)

Thats a good point, but I feel that rotating him with McGee will give him more time to mature. The only neg. criticism that i've heard about JJ is that he's still a bit immature.

if JJ is such a good WR(he is) y dont we put him in the WR role this season but still make him learn the QB role. he would get game exp. and we could also do trick plays with him... i would take that route if i had to choose. that would give him game exp and get us ready for the 2010 season. at the rate sherman is recruiting we should be back where we were in the 90s

McGee came in when we really needed some kind of identity as a team and he brought that identity. He provided the leadership and direction to get our offense rolling, and to sustain long drives. He also provided the heart and soul, that aggies everywhere wanted to see in our players. He saved us from several miserable years that could have been under franchione.
That said I dont believe McGee will take us to the next level of compettion, by that I mean winning 10-11 games and competing with TU and OU every year. Its not that He doesnt have the talent its just that usually when a QB is under one coaches system for to long he wont flourish under another. I think the coaching and time that McGee spent under frachione will hinder him from becoming the true passer that he could have been. And I dont think he will have enough time to ajdust to the new coach, especially since at least from what I've heard he's sitting out of spring practice to recover from shoulder surgery.
I believe that it actually will be to our benefit that JJ did not receive significant playing time under franchione. We could impliment(sorry cant spell) a two quarterback rotation this upcoming year and be very successful while JJ learns to take the reigns kind of like florida did. Or we could also start JJ and use McGee as a senior kind of mentor figure to JJ, either way I would like to see JJ get some significant time on the feild next year.

McGee hands down. My wife is an aggie (yes, we live in a house divided) and I tell her all the time that McGee probably has as much talent at qb that the big 12 has seen in a while. He has the complete package. McGee might not be as fast as VY, but he has good size that gets around pretty good and he has a good arm. He picks up defenses well and makes the right adjustments. He adjusts very well. More improtantly, he has a will to win, and he cares. I don't think Fran developed him at all and it will be tough with a new coach and a new system, but the talent is there. Something tells me that he will either get drafted in the late rounds or walk on as a free agent somewhere in the NFL. If someone takes the time, they are going to have a good NFL qb. Someone that came out of nowhere, like Romo. Just a guess.
