Picked up another CB.  Jamar Taylor.  Good write-up on him in Scout and in the Idaho Statesman.  Looks to be a good land after we lost two other CB's to bigger schools.

Yea that is big. I was very suprised when i checked scout about four days ago and i saw that Kevin Frank and Williams had left for different schools. They will just miss out on some WAC championships and BCS bowl win.

Remember this Sooner. The team that beat you guys were mostly 2 and 3 stars. The recruiting stars are based on height, speed, high school stats and potential. They don't base them on work ethic or anything else. Recruiting class looks fine to me except we missed out on a couple big guys.

sooner i have to agree  with duke, the whole 4 stars really do not carry alot of weight kids that go to combines will never even get ranked and if it was all about # of stars then irish would crush everyone and we all know that did not happen so we will take kids that fit our style and buy into the program hope you guys win the big 12 so you can choke again and maybe then you will finally shut up probably not though

They will always have an excuse for losing the game just like everyone does. I am happy right now with our current recruits and our young and upcoming players. Future looks bright.

nomorewac, duke...

I agree, National Rating/Ranking is not indicative of how well a player is going to be in college.  Lowly rated players may blossom in college and prove to be great stars and great NFL prospects that no-one ever considered.  Highly rated players may be complete busts.

But I do think that what everyone is looking for - specially us mids - is that ellusive highly tallented 4 star recruit that has the 2 star chip on his shoulder and blue-collar work mentallity.  They are rare, but once in a while they show up and become the talk of the town for years.  ..........  Boise, on the other hand, has been good at finding the 2/3 star recruits that have 4 star chips and their shoulders and blue-collar work mentality.

NLI day today.  Going to the Big Easy to check out what the coach has to say about the new recruits.

We landed another Safety yesterday.  He's a 2 star, but has created quite alot of buzz around him, so could be pretty good!

Nice surprises for today...

  1. TJ Lawrence turns down LSU, Florida, Michigan and V'Tech and comes to Boise.
  2. Zach Stoudt decommits from Pittsburg and comes to Boise.

Alumn, kidding about Stoudt? Really?  TJ turns down.......those schools?  OK, I'm not partying until it comes true but it sure sounds good.  Turned down LSU, FL, MI, VTech, wow!!

I'm from Houston and this George Iloka (from Sugarland, a sub of Hou)  is a big safety and is a bigger recruit than I think most BSU fans realize.  By next season in the bronco weight room he could be near 250 with safety abilities and could play LB, but what a hell of a safety (where we've been hurt'n for awhile).

Damm, we're gona be more than real good in a year or 2.  I think we're going to be a lot better this coming year than most think -- the O line (so called replacements) will do much, much better than people are thinking with loosing considerable talent there.  I dare say the WAC at a minimum this coming year.  Yeah, it's all looking good.

Sorry BS2...  I should have clarified better.  What I meant is was it would "BE" a nice surprise "IF" TJ and Stoudt chose Boise.  They didn't.

Went to the NLI Day show at the Big Easy.  Very enjoyable.  Very enlightening.
Some insight...

Players we didn't land

  •
  • TJ went to Florida...  Not surprised there.
  • Brown decommitted and went to Nevada...  This one got some boo's!  Nevada I think told him he'll be put at RB there, where Boise would have moved him to CB.  Oh well.

Safety

  • Iloka...  6'3" 210 lb Safety (in the mould of Alexander) is already enrolled in Boise and working with the team.  He graduate HS in 3 1/2 years and came to Boise to get an early start.  Real hard working kid who want to improve as much as he can.  Excited about this kid.
  • Jackson...  Great athlete who likes to hit.  Could be ready to go as a redshirt Freshman.

Linebackers

  • Hout...   LB...  We've already heard a ton about him, but coaches think he's a future NFL prospect.
  • Mackay...  Another LB who will be ready to go real quick.
  • Tommy Smith...  another 6'3" 210 lb Safety who likely play LB.  Coaches were excited to have snagged this kid from Atlanta.  Boise has 5 senior LB's this coming year, but no Juniors.  Now we have 5 LB's in the wings that look to be like Hall and Brooks.

OLine

  • Nate Potter (last year recruit) and Tom Swanson look to be great Tackles.  Coaches think Swanson could be the next Clady.

No QB

No new RB.  (Lambert maybe switched to CB  -  up in the air right now) and Kaiserman was a greyshirt.

Childs was not listed on the Depth Chart for Boise.  He's still likely to return after his one semester suspension, but for now he is not on the Roster

Stoudt went to Louisville...  Not even Stoudt's HS Coach expected that one.

Hey BA....

What's your take on DT Grimes? I read the article on him in the Sacramento Bee. Seems he is rather upset on not getting an honest offer from some of the big boys.

Was quoted as saying he wanted to get to BSU and prove that they were wrong in not offering a scholorship.

We need that attitude..... we seemed to have lost it..... now if he will only buy into the team attitude also.

Blue...

The Bee article pegged it exactly.  The coaches specifically talked about Grimes and the chip on his shoulder at not getting an offer from a bigger school.

Note:  There was a lot of high-light video on the day, and some real amazing stuff.  Potter, Hout, Iloka, and others were real studs in their high-light reels.  But the high-light material on Grimes wasn't really that good.  Of course the coaches are going to look deeper then just the high-lights, but maybe that's why he didn't get the bigger offers, his exceptional stuff wasn't that exceptional.  Of course, that's just my opinion based on what I saw.

So BA,

What's the feeling there in Bronco Country about NLI Signing Day?  Did Santa bring y'all some nice presents?

With the exception of Julio Jones, OU did well.  BUT...  As evidenced by OUr last couple of bowl games, it ain't the number of stars by a kid's name that counts, it the heart that beats in his chest that matters.

Now I'm just waiting for spring football.  The Red and White game should be in early April with practices starting in about a month.  Can't get here soon enough for me.

How do you think this coming season is shaping up?

Post NLI Day Team Rankings...

Scout has Boise as the 6th best non-BCS team for recruiting this year at 67.  So Miss was the best non-BCS team by quite abit.  Other teams above Boise...  Fresno, BYU, Utah and UCF.

Rivals has Boise way down the list at 87.  Rivals also has So Miss as the best non-BCS team by quite abit.  On Rivals, there are 19 schools ahead of Boise - including Fresno, Hawaii, and La Tech of the WAC.

Granted, these recruiting web-sites don't tell the whole story about the kids, but it does make for some interesting research.

SA...  Good to see you back my friend.

Boise's recruiting was better than average this year, but was not better then last year (by the numbers).

Last year we went after more of the skill players and landed some great prospects.  This year the team's needs were different.   OLine, DLine and DB's were the primary targets for this year.  We did well, but Boise typically doesn't compete as well for the recruits in these areas.

The real interesting note this year were the players we lost.  We had several good recruits committed who ended up decommitting and going elsewhere.  Losing commits to the big schools is one thing, but we even had one commit go to Nevada this year, which hasn't happened in the last 15 years I've been following the recruiting process.

Shame you guys lost Jones, he's gonna be a good one!!!  Better then Kelly (I think).  'Bama sure came on strong this year near the end of the recruiting season!!! ......  OU did real well in the skill positions this year - specially RB's.

BTW...  I love that pic you got up for your Avatar!!!
