& ;nbs p; Coming off the first game, I decided to give a few more minutes to the bench in this one especially because of the matchups. On offense, we will still look to push the ball for transition hoops as we have a fairly athletic team and I think our frontcourt is going to be difficult for his to keep up with. Although Robinson was no slouch athletically or defensively, he wasn't the athlete Wilt was who is probably the most athletic big in this. In situations where we can't get baskets, we'll again look to work the ball down low to our bigs. Wilt and McHale will have to work for hoops but it will be the same for his bigs on the other end. In this up-tempo offense we run we hope to keep the pace of the game quick in hopes to either create foul trouble or go to his bench where Oakley will have to be his primary defensive replacement up front and I can't see how he slows McHale or Wilt if he's on the floor with them. We're going to try and get Drexler in some isolation situations where he can look to slash to the hoop or work Dantley/English, whomever he has on him. Mullin will come off the bench to spread the floor when we feed the ball down low in case of a double. Jo Jo White and David Thompson allow me almost no drop off in production when they enter and will look to find easy baskets in transition or off the pass. When Oakley is on the floor, if its with Wilt or McHale, we'll look to go right at him as he is going to struggle to slow either. Sabonis gives us the option to run out there with McHale to spare Wilt time or vice versa and still have two bigs who can score. If the Sleazies try to run a zone, with guys like Mullin, White, Schrempf, as well as the mid range games of DJ and Drexler, it will make life a lot easier for our outside shooters. Bobby Jones gives us a tenacious rebounder who can run all day in the up-tempo offense and create second chance points.
& ;nbs p; Defensively, we will again run a straight man to man defense. Wilt will man Robinson and McHale on Malone. Although his frontcourt has the ability to score and will be a challenge for my two horses up front, neither Wilt nor McHale gave up much ground and will make them work for their points. Bobby Jones will stick English to start and should have an easier physical matchup coming off a game covering Elgin Baylor, but his stamina will be put to the test against English. Jones should keep him from getting many lay-ups or bunnies, and will try to follow him around like a vulture. Drexler will man Dantley and the two of them shouldn't consider this an off-day. DJ will guard Wilkens and look to keep him from setting his teammates up for jumpers. DJ's focus will be on stopping penetration where Wilkens excelled at scoring or dropping off to the bigs or kicking it back out. When his perimeter scorers are on the court, we'll trust our bigs to man up one on one and take the philosophy that a tough two is better than an uncontested 3. We'll look to close out on his perimeter shooters and force his team to beat us down low where we think between Sabonis, Wilt, and McHale, along with Bobby Jones that they can't consistently score. We will watch the pick and roll run with Malone as we noticed they had a tendency to do in their first game (scouting
).
& ;nbs p; Basically when all is said and done, I don't think he has enough depth coming off his bench, particularly in the frontcourt to match my team's depth. I think with the up-tempo game and given the fact that Karl Malone wasn't as fast or had the stamina of McHale, Wilt, and Bobby Jones who played their whole careers in up-tempo offenses, that he will have to go to the bench earlier than anticipated. I also don't think he has an answer off his bench to match the scoring possibilities of guys like Thompson, Sabonis, and Mullin given the minutes their getting this game. I think defensively he has some good players, but I think when all is said and done that my team has the ability with one player or as a unit to get more stops late than his team would in this matchup.
Squeezy-Sleazies (0-1)
Alright, so I’ve been accused of having “not enough” of a game-plan. You want a more in depth one? I’LL GIVE YOU A MORE IN-DEPTH ONE!!
PG- Lenny Wilkens- 28 minutes at PG
SG- Adrian Dantley- 34 minutes at SG
SF- Alex English- 33 minutes at SF
PF- Karl Malone- 35 minutes at PF
C- David Robinson- 35 minutes at C

BE- Connie Hawkins- 3 minutes at PF, 13 at C= 18 total minutes
BE- Billy Cunningham- 15 minutes at SF
BE- Calvin Murphy- 20 minutes at PG
BE- Dan Majerle- 14 minutes at SG
BE- Charles Oakley- 10 minutes at PF

On offense, the base set is 3-2 motion when Malone/Robinson are in the game. We will still look for fast break opportunities as Dantley/English like to get out and run, but when that is not there we can settle into the 3-2 motion.
Here is a photo of the offense in case you don’t know the set-up: i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk148/B

What we will look to do out of this offense is a lot of off the ball screens to try and free up open mid-range looks for Dantley/English as both of them are GREAT mid-range shooters. Another thing we can do with these off the ball screens from the #4/#5 is free up rolls to the basket for Malone/Robinson.

We can do the same thing when the bench players are in the game. Calvin Murphy will be the go to guy. Instead of screens for the Wing players, the screens will be set for him to do his thing. Murph was a great at penetrating and dropping a soft floater for 2 points. We also have a great cutter in Billy Cunningham who will look to cut to the basket off of switches. Majerle will just be roaming the 3 point line awaiting open looks. Connie Hawkins job is to crash the boards and score from the low block. Charles Oakley is our designated screen setter. He will also crash the boards, but we will not be looking for scoring from him.

Now we get to defense. YSDWIWU has a very good front-line so we will have to play a 2-3 match-up zone. If we get beat by the 3 so be it, but I refuse to get dominated inside all game. Robinson never had the opportunity to play against Wilt, but I highly doubt that he’d be able to drop 30-40 on a defender such as The Admiral. As for Kevin McHale, Karl Malone/Oakley have their work cut out for them. The only way they can stop him is by trying to prevent the catch as once he catches it, that’s all she wrote. If he gets deep post position, we will front him and the on ball defender will try to act as “big” as possible to try and affect the passers vision.
With our stellar offensive game-plan and our effort to neutralize the inside game of YSDWIWU the SS crew will have an excellent chance at the win.
