Shawney Kersey WR  from South Jersey  just committed

3 stars in Rivals (picked RU over Penn Sate, ND, WVU)

ESPN Top 150

By the looks of this kid, you can't help but be impressed with his physical stature, but the first thing Kersey needs to do is go down a size in shoulder pads as this appears to be a hindrance to his mobility as both a wide receiver and safety. He is big, he is somewhat physical and he can run. He has long arms and athletic skills for the position. He has an above average release, but does struggle to separate off the line of scrimmage vs. physical press corners. He has deceptive downfield speed when getting separation. He is at his best on deep take-off, post and underneath crossing routes. He has shown the courage to go over the middle and make tough catches in a crowd. He is an above average route runner that has some stiffness in his cutting ability, but can accelerate and shows burst off the cut. He has above average catching/ball skills. He can extend and adjust outside his frame. He has some run after catch ability, but does struggle in his stop and go movements. Defensively, he certainly looks like a safety and can be a physical presence, but doesn't always insert himself like you would like. Plays the high point and is not generally the first to attack the run from his position. The issue with Kersey is that you feel a bit teased by his athletic and physical traits, but we question how good a football player he is at this stage. He needs to develop and become more consistent as a prospect and playmaker. Overall, Kersey has speed and size which makes him attractive and he certainly has ability to develop into a fine college prospect.

Rutgers football commitment fever is apparently contagious now.

Wide receiver Shawney Kersey, who told Allen Wallace of SuperPrep Magazine two days ago that West Virginia was solidly entrenched as his leading college choice, abruptly changed his mind and gave Rutgers a verbal commitment last night, becoming the 18th player in the Scarlet Knights' class of 2009, according to Scout.com.

The 6-2, 185-pound Kersey, who also stars in track at Woodbury High School, told Scout.com that he had a change of heart after meeting Rutgers coach Greg Schiano. Kersey is rated a three-star recruit by both Rivals.com and Scout.com and is the 49th ranked wide receiver in the country according to both.

"I like Greg Schiano and everything about him," Kersey said. "He is a real person and he is looking to help me succeed. When I talked to him it seemed like he wanted me as a person as much as a player."

Kersey is the fourth player from South Jersey in the class and said fellow wide receiver Aaron Hayward of Penns Grove High, who committed to Rutgers last week, convinced him to join the fold.

"It's a shock," said Donald Forbes of Scout.com, who thought Kersey was West Virginia-bound.

Kersey told Scout.com he feels he fits better into Rutgers' offense than the Mountaineers' spread.

How do you guys think the Mountaineer fans feel about this?

Well, they already have the #1 WR recruit in the country on his way there. I don't think they're too shook up.

Besides, this is a Jersey guy. It'd be different if he was a Morgantown resident. He belongs here. I'm glad he realized that.

Next up. Smith? Carson? Lowery?....or as Graystork would say, Lowery....Lowery....Lowery...Lowery
....Lowery....

Wouldn't you all be surprised if we didn't get Lowery since big bro is already on the banks?  What is this kid - 330 lbs?

I agree  with an exclamation:  LOWERY LOWERY LOWERY LOWERY!

Don't you all remember how well Meekins clogged the middle in 2006?  Brian Brohm sure does.

Hopefully we can get both Lowery and Holmes. Those two could man the interior together for four years.
