At least 2nd in the Coastal, and if we beat Va tech, then it's ours for the taking. I think we will be BEAST this year, and for years to come. I am sooo STOKED for this season, it should be a coming out party for UNC football, and we will be back on the national scene. Anyway I am ready to be in KEENAN on Aug. 30, in Piscataway on Sept. 11th, and every other Home game. ND on my bday weekend, so HELL yeah, I hope we DUST them. GO HEELS!

Ok... ok.... ok.
Lets not go too crazy here. I am a huge Tarheel fan. I live and breath the Heels, but I am not going too raise there expectations too high from last year. Yes I believe the Heels will be better, but we have some tough games this year from an improving ACC. We are getting better, but teams like VT and BC are perennial powerhouses. I see the schedule like this:
August 30th: McNeese State (Home) - Win
September 11th: Rutgers (Away) - Win
September 20th: Virginia Tech (Home) - Loss
September 27th: Miami (Away) - Loss, {I know it sucks but we can't beat them all the time}
October 4th: UCONN (Home) - Win
October 11th: Notre Dame (Home) - Win, {Hell yes, Butch has the Heels ready for the Irish}
October 18th: Virgina (Away) - Win, {Heels avenge their loss to the Cavaliers}
October 25th: Boston College (Home) - Loss
November 8th: Georgia Tech (Home) - Win {We played them tough in Atlanta last year}
November 15th: Maryland (Away) - Loss
November 22nd: NC State (Home) - Win
November 29th: Duke (Away) - Win, {Finish off with a win against the lowly Blue Devils}
Finish 8-4 overall and 4-4 in conference. The Heels are headed back to a bowl. Butch has got this ship steered in the right direction and I can see a UNC ACC championship in football by the time I graduate from the Southern Part of Heaven.

Ehh...idk. I see us beating tech and BC. Both of them lose a lot. Bc has a new QB, and new Rbs. Tech will most likely have a Frosh Rb, and all the Wrs are gone. I can envision Marvin chasing glennon around now. I live in VA and I hear a lot of crap from Hokie fans. So I WANT that one sooo bad! But techs defense also loses a lot of "star" power. With Hall and Adibi gone. But i will take 8-4, and a bowl berth. However i do see the potential to finish better, with Greg as Rb, and our Wrs. I am just soooo stoked. I wish i had gotten in there...:-(. And i can see us easily winning all of our home games.

7 wins, plus or minus 1. I think the Heels return to a bowl game this year!

I really want to be super optimistic here and say that 2008 will be a huge turnaround for the Heels, but I have to be realistic too. Yates had surgery in the offseason and the defense lost its top 3 guys to the draft. The offense SHOULD be very potent, but the fact that the QB position isn't a sure thing at this point worries me. And the defense worries me too. Don't get me wrong, I think the Heels have the ability to win practically every game on their schedule this year, but they were 4-8 last year, so I am going to predict a 6-6 season and a return to a bowl game.
I know, that prediction doesn't make you all warm and fuzzy inside, but I see quite a few games on the Heels schedule that could end up being a lot more difficult to win than they look on paper. However, if the Heels can win their first two and then "steal" one against VaTech, the sky is the limit for this season. If they can pull off Ws in the first three, including a W over the Hokies, there is no telling how many games this team could win. But, I am trying to keep my expectations from getting unrealistic here.
Regardless of all that, I definitely feel more optimism going into this season than I have in quite a while.
GO HEELS!

I know how you feel about the QB situation this year spizzle. In addition to Yates having surgery, he also finished the 2007 season much worse than he started it. Hopefully this was to do with the injury and the surgery fixed it, but it still is worrying. On the defense though, Butch has a history of great defensive teams and making guys overachieve on that side of the ball so I think he'll have a good handle on that.
Also I know I picked UNC to beat UCONN earlier in the thread, but does anyone think that might be a potential let down game for the Heels?? I hope I'm just thinking way too much about it, but with Notre Dame being the highlight of the out of conference schedule I was thinking that the Huskies (who were a 9-4 team last year and second in the big east) could cause some problems...
