I can safely assume that most of you don't give a rat's rear about soccer or the World Cup, but the U.S. is off to a good start by beating Barbados 8-0 in the first round of eliminations for the 2010 WC. I hope more people will start to follow the National Team at least. Those guys are getting better and better, and while we may not be on the same level as some of the top teams, we are certainly working our way up. We have another match scheduled with Barbados on the 22nd, so I hope some of you will take the time to watch our national soccer team. I didn't care about soccer up until the last World Cup in 2006. My wife is from Argentina, so obviously they are huge fans. After watching WC, it was really awesome because soccer is one sport that every nation in the world plays. The US got beat by Ghana in the 2006 WC. Ghana, a small African nation... I hope maybe a few of you might take interest into a growing sport in the US.

I like Soccer, even played fullback intramurally during college. The problem for it here in the States is that there are already so many sports to draw our attention. There have been a number of soccer sports leagues start and sputter out, and then when we do things like bring Beckham over and he's injured right away and can't play, the celebrity splash ad campaign is crimped. I wish our team luck.

I don't know much about soccer but whenever USA is playing I try to keep up with them.  From your post they are off to a great start.  Soccer is one sport that we are behind the rest of the world, however, we are gaining ground on them.

Yes, we are behind the rest when it comes to this sport. I think one reason for this is that (A) Like Rison said, we have alot of sports to draw fan bases from. (B) We are so used to dominating almost every sport we play, that alot of Americans aren't into it simply because we are not a top team. This of course is just speculation, but it makes sense to me anyway. I would love to see it pick up here in the US.

I commend you all for respecting the game and giving it a chance, I know it would be easy to jump on the bandwagon of most american football fans and say that soccer sucks and that it has no place in our country. That is just not correct, We just came off a 3 game road stretch where we played England,Spain, and Argentina back to back and we played pretty well. Currently we are 21st in the world and that is not half bad when you think of the great soccer nations out there,We'll be a great team someday soon. So as a player for 18 years and a lifelong fan thanks for the support. Go USA and Go Hogs!!!

Certtainly I want the USA to win, but that said, I hate soccer! I know the players are in great shap and are top level athletes, but I view the game as what everyone else plays. It isn't American.

As a little league coach I hate what it is doing to our local baseball program as parents take their kids to soccer rather than let them play baseball. I have gone to some of the games and get very board. In the soccer leagues I have seen aggression is discouraged and success is midigated by "everyone wins" ideas. I think this reflects the feminization of American males. After all the term is "Soccer Moms" not "Soccer Dads."

I'm glad you guys like this game, but don't look for me at the field.

Go USA!

Last world cup we were ranked number 8 and promptly had our rear ends handed to us and the former coach was handed his walking papers. Hopefully with the infusion of some new talent and a new coach we can expect a better outcome this time around.

Later!
