I am against Instant Replay in Baseball.  At least with Football and Hockey, there are only a few instances that Replay can be used.  In Baseball, it will cause nothing but headaches and the games will be lasting past midnight their time.

Vitale,

I completely disagree here with you. If the options for instant replay were at any borderline call throughout the game i would have agreed, but the fact is it for home run balls that are either fair/foul or balls that didn't go over the wall as assumed like A-rods that would have been a HR.

End of story. How many times a game does this happen? You can go weeks for some teams without this coming into play.

For the most part this will not effect the game and the time it will have. in some cases it might happen twice, but that is rare. Lets say it takes 3 minutes to get the call right. That's better than a team getting screwed because they didn't make it right and worth the 3 minutes.

Agree, it will be on random plays and not used like the NFL for 10+ minutes....They hopefully can have two competent people in a booth looking at a play and make a decision quickly....I can't see how determining a fair or foul ball can be that difficult....Review the play 2-3 times and send the verdict down....

Another point w/ respect to this complaint that replay will prolong the games...

Spending 2 to 3 minutes viewing film to confirm the proper call may actually save time when the alternative is a manager-umpire argument that could last 5 minutes and result in an ejection.  Maybe that's what the fans would rather spend their time seeing though.

There are other ways the game could be sped up if that's really a concern.

Just checking home run balls in the 8 or 9 innings would'nt be that bad, but get real people, this is only the start of it, replay will be checking everything and imploying it in the game. Runners safe or out at first base, the shortstop touching 2nd base on the double play, safe or out on a steal, balks, balls, strikes. It's going to open up a can of worms that we'll never get rid of. Baseball is the last major sport without replay calls, there's allways been a human influence in the game, you don't argue with the umpire, you don't win if you do argue with the ump's. Leave the game the wat it is, it's doing fine.

I think its good for baseball as long as its just homeruns and nothing else... Maybe even put a time limit on how it can be reviewed, and if its not resolved within the time limit the original call stands...

Enough with the "baseball has tradition argument" against replay. All the major sports use it in some form or another. The games are quicker and to simply get a call wrong because someone thinks the human influence is part of the game is ridiculous. With TV replays and HDTV, it is so easy to get a call right.

There can be nothing more embarassing to MLB than seeing a replay on TV from multiple angles and knowing what the correct call should be. Everyone in the world knows what the call should be EXCEPT for the four umpires on the field, none of whom can say for sure what the call should be because they were hundreds of feet away or had no angle. It wont slow up the game any more than allowing batters to step out of the box after every pitch or multiple pitching changes. If you are against replay you simply dont respect the game enough to want the correct call. You'd rather have the wrong call fast than have the right call.
