Here is an analysis of the Bulls Cap position.

Without giving it much deep thought, it is easy to see that the Bulls will have a tough decision to make regarding Deng and Gordon.  One or both may have to go in a sign and trade.  Hinrich, Gooden and Nocioni are also likely to be discussed as trade possibilities.  It is impossible to see adding a piece through free agency unless they decide to let Gordon or Deng sign elsewhere.

Post your thoughts.

I think from Paxson perspective he is readjusting the team to find the right combination of players and attitudes that will work together under the new system being deployed by Vinny D and staff soon-to-be-named.  I think ANY of the players on the Bulls roster could be traded and I don't think that Paxson has a "I need this player on my team" signed or committed in my opinion.

I would have liked to had seen Luol Deng's facial response when the Bulls landed the no. 1 pick.  Here's a guy who was offered a fairly substantial contract for the average numbers he puts up, and he turned it down.  If he didn't think he was expendable then, he HAS to know that he is now.

If I had my choice of either player I would choose Ben Gordon.  He makes BUCKETS when he comes off the bench.  He is very effective in that role.  You can sign and trade the Luol Deng and make his contract FIT the deal you are packaging him for.

I think getting a solid player like Gilbert Arenas or Shawn Marion is key this offseason.  Someone who can flat out score buckets.  Marion provides some defense and rebounds, but didn't like his situation in Phoenix (but that is not clear as WHY he didn't).

Sending Kirk Hinrich and his contract away (I like him, but you can't pay that much for a backup point guard; i.e.-- When the Bulls draft Rose Hinrich will be a backup)  and trying to reduce the years of impact on Larry Hughes bloated contract would help considerably.

If we draft Rose and sign Arenas would you suggest that Arenas plays SG then? I don't think Rose should play behind him at all....

PG Rose
SG Arenas
SF Deng
PF Gooden
C Noah

equals damn good team if made possible

Traded Tyrus, Gordon, Hinrich and whatever else needed.

Overall I see the Bulls doing a couple things here.  Frist off Hughes is staying. He has 2 years years left on his contract.  Thats when Wade, Howard, Bosh, LBJ and Kobe (might be next year) will be FA's.  Second they will draft Rose and build around him.  The players you keep are Rose, Noah, and Deng (unless you get Value for him).  I think everyone else can be traded.  I would like to see the Bulls get back in the Top 10 of the draft and build around 2 young guys until the BIG FA's come out.  I hope Vinny and Paxson have a plan. I dont want them to ruin this team anymore. We need to get back to the Glory Days.

Purguy,

I am with you on all fronts. The Bulls must keep Rose, Luol Deng, and Joakim Noah. The other player I would like to see stay is Thabo Sefolosha. He could become a very solid 6th man. I do not like the idea of either Gilbert Arenas or Marion. Both have major ego issues that would hurt team play. Rose will open up the floor and Deng will get better looks and should become the player we all hoped he would. I like the Bulls using Ben Gordon to land another 1st round pick. I really think we could land at least the 9th pick from the Bobcats with Gordon. We could pick up Love if we need a big or Augustin if we want a back-up PG. We could even draft Gallinari. Bottomline, it would be nice to get something for Ben. Then I say we make a trade using any of our other players that could land us another stud. The Suns may look to move Stoudemire or Maybe a sign and trade deal to land Elton Brand.

There are a lot of teams who did not have the seasons that they thought they would have and thus will be willing to make trades. I think there will be some major shake-ups this offseason. Hopefully Paxson gets in on the action.
