Any reasonable argument that Jackson is not a great coach has been quashed over the last three years.  When Jackson took over the Lakers again in '05-'06, they were in absolute shambles.  They finished the preceding season with a record of 10-29 under Frank Hamblin.  Many people said that by returning to the Lakers, Jackson would tarnish his legacy because for the first time he was taking over a bad team.  In the following year, despite losing Caron Butler, Jackson lead the Lakers to 45 wins and the Lakers nearly upset Phoenix in the first round.  Now, in just his third year back and with Pau Gasol as the only significant addition to the team, Jackson has lead the Lakers back to the finals.  And not only are they in the finals, but they got there with only three playoff losses in a very tough conference.  Jackson is, simply put, the greatest coach in NBA history.

C'mon Freeman, are you serious? You claim Jackson isn't a great coach because he has all this talent but then hype the Red Auerbach legacy because he had great players? That's crazy! If you are going to make the arguments you made you have to lump Auerbach in the same boat as Jackson and you didn't therefore for argument is pretty much contradictory. Jackson is a great coach and I would claim the best coach ever in the NBA.

Jackson always has had the best player in basketball on all of his teams.   I just would like to see him win with less talent.

you quickly forget that they also brought back Derick Fisher. Not an all star, but someone who played with Kobe back in the glory years. Phil has always inherited teams with the greatest player(s) currently in the game. He has never taken a team and built it from the ground up. So,...Phil is, simply put, the most overrated coach in NBA History.

Freeman and the rest of the world that thinks you need to win a title with less talent should run down a alley and yell fish! It makes no sense that statement!
Riley had Jabar, Magic, Worthy, Ewing, Wade and O'neal not a good coach!  Red had Russell, Cousy not a good coach!   Pop's had Robinson, Duncan, Parker and Manu not a good coach i guess! If I remember correctly which i do, lets count on one hand how many titles Jordan,Pippen, O'neal and Kobe have won when they are not on a Phil Jackson coached team. lets see ONE!   Even the teams that won it all like Detriot and Houston in they last 25 years. Houston, Rudy had Cylde the Glide and the Dream. Currently my sister could take the Pistons to the Eastern confernce championship. With Rip, Wallace, Hamilton and Prince 3 different coaches Carlislie, Brown and Flip has rose to the task. In the late 80's Daly had Thomas, Dumars and Rodman.  So when you look at  great  coaches it  goes hand in hand with great players!
Do you think Bill wins 3 superbowls with Bledsoe? Does the Dallas Cowboys win 2 superbowls with Babe Laugfenberg? I guess Phil Jackson has been blessed with some gifted stars but without Phil maybe we consider Mj more like a Wilkins just a high flying hard nose talented player that could never get past the 1st round. Much like we consider T-mac nowadays.  Give credit to the Zen master Kobe has stated for years that he is out if they dont change things but yet here is Kobe playing for a title. I think anyother coach buckles under the star pressure and gets fired! Ask the Van gundys how that works! In the Nba the Stars rule how the game is called and how the organziation makes decisions accept in the case of Phil jackson teams!
