Jazz/Cougs . . . . OK . . . . . you are right, when it is 4th and 18, you don't let the receiver get behind you . . . . you are right, that isn't luck . . . . BUT it sure as heck has nothing to do with who wanted it more.
I think in this rivalry, there is no one team who wants it more then the other. I guarantee that both teams in this rivalry want it really bad. Niether team like to lose to the other. It affects everything! The overall success of their season, their fan base (in a typically win and we love you atmosphere that pervades here in Utah; pick your team around here, when you are losing, how many fans are really around?), their recruiting, and many other things. They both want it.
Let's face it fans, the U blew it defensively the last two years. They forgot their assignments in a critical moment on the last play of the game for two seasons running. Is there is a little bit of dumb luck there in favor of BYU? Personally, I believe there is. But deep down, to me it is a coaching issue. The coaches need to prepare the players to deal with that type of situation and what they need to do in order to make the right play at the right time.
Look at the last blowout in the series . . . when the U won the Fiesta Bowl . . . . did the Utes want it more then BYU? No! They were just a better team that season. Did BYU want it more the last two seasons? No! They were just better (yes, I said it! Look at the rankings!) then the U was.
So here is hoping that this season the U is the better team and we can find a way to win the big game!!
Go Utes!
