The Sacramento Kings exercised their club option for president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie on Tuesday, committing to him through the 2009-10 season.

What do you guys think of this move? I personally wish they would have kept Rick Adelman and let Petrie go 2 yrs ago. We probably would never have had the terrible seasons like last yr and the one before, but we can't do anything about that. I am not sure Geoff really knows what direction he is going in right now (Mikki Moore our starting PF-good bench/role player not a starter). I think he has a great eye for talent, but can't build a complete team. I am convinced that Adelman could take any team or whoever you give him and make it work and win games. Maybe Petrie got too much credit than he deserved for our good yrs.

It is obvious we need a big lowpost player that can score and clog up the paint on defense, but we have gone in different directions. Lets hope that we get someone in there this yr and maybe we will go somewhere. Don't get me wrong, I do like Brad Miller but he is a high post player more of a PF than center. Spencer Hawes showed he can score some down low, but is not a great defensive presence.

Bottom line is we have to get the right ppl in there that will play together with chemistry. We need more passing and less one on one basketball. We were at or near the bottom of the league in assists last yr and with Adelman the Kings were always at the top.

So what do you think and what would you do to right the ship?

Petrie is a genius plain and simple.  Adelman was not bad but I really like what Reggie Theus had done so far and believe the Kings are heading in the right direction.  Petrie keeps me calm with the direction the Kings are moving.

Adelman is a great coach.  He's shown that he can win, but he wasn't going to want to stick around for some rebuilding or first round exits.  Atleast the last few years we've been ab;e to get some draft picks.  Theuss is really bringing the team into the directiong that the owners want, and thats defense.  The team is changing alot, but it looks like maybe we're a couple of years out from at least playoff contention.  Too bad we can't play in the East.

Too bad we can't play in the East. lol, thats good. we'd be instant contenders in the east. But we did win 38 games last year and if we can play a little better and make a big deal than I think we can be a playoff team next year.

I agree that they can be in the playoffs, but you can say that about the vast majority of the teams in the west.  It doesn't take much to suddenly be on the outside looking in (look out Denver, Utah, and Dallas)
