Proof we are on the right track. The Knights get an early commitment by Center Evan Swindall, Hoover,Alabama, Spain Park Hs. Earliest in school history, several highly touted recruits have visited multiple times, 08 was a great class, but 09 is looking like it might blow that class away!!!

Looks like a good recruit at a position that will be a need in a few years. Good to see the program progressing. With progression comes great expectation! Go Knights!

It's nice to see us getting early signees but have you seen how many people some of the other schools have signed. FSU has 10 recruits at this point I believe.

Here is the recruiting list that I was looking for when i made my original post.
Recruiting: 2009 Commitments
It is a nice breakdown per Florida school of who has what commitments for 2009, and you can see why I said we are lacking a little.

We might still be behind FSU, UF, and UM but i remember the days when we didn't even have 1 recruit commit this early, so at least we're headed in the right direction.

Yep, Corey Ammons, cornerback from Archbishop Carroll in Miami. I will do more research on him to see what i can find Rivals and scouts do not have a whole lot on him.

This is from Miami Herald,
Corey Ammons, a 6-0, 175 pound cornerback at Archbishop Carroll, orally committed to play for the University of Central Florida on Tuesday night.
Ammons, class of 2009, led his to team to a state semifinals appearance in 2007 and was selected to the Miami Herald's All-Dade second team.
Ammons finished the season with four interceptions for 162 return yards. His two picks in a 35-9 regional final win against American Heritage Plantation helped earn the Bulldogs their spot in the regional finals.
My take,
A couple of reasons why this is bigger news than it may appear, one after researching comments on him, he seems to be underrated and go under the radar, he did have other offers though including one from a BCS school, as well as interest from bigger schools like Miami. In addition to that, Archbishop is loaded with talent this year, some who we have offered and are going after, we could use him to help us recruit. Players include, but not limited to, Rodney Smith 6'6" 205 pound wr, 4 star according to rivals, DB David Ribero, 5-11, 170 (not yet in rivals database but will go to a D-1 school), OL Danny Palacio, 6-3, 300 (not yet in rivals database but will go to a D-1 school), and Rb/ S Terrance Taylor, listed as a Safety on RIvals.

He has 4.5 speed, with great vision, agility and hands. He is a playmaker plain and simple.
Also another great thing about this recruit,
I found this on a USF message board,
"USF already got George Baker, now they need to get his teammates. The trio from Archbishop Carroll class of 09 are nasty. Rodney Smith 6'5 WR, Corey Ammons 6'0 Ath/CB, and Terrance Taylor 6'0 S. USF should start of by getting these guys."
Baker was a 3 star corner class of 08 that we went after and USF got. Suck on that USF we're getting Carrol's bigger and better class of 09.

UCF could easily end up 11-2 they would just have to "strike it early" and not give (up/in)

Add another name to the list. Te DJ Brown from Dunnellon Hs. in Florida. That is 2 recruits that are home grown and 1 from out of state, being that there is a ton of in state talent this year it is clear we are trying to stay in state more than usual this year. I will do some research on this guy and let you know what i find. 6'3" 207 TE.

Add another name to the growing list, Jim Teknipp, Te Henry County High School, McDonough, Ga.
Another Te and he attends the same school as Jamal Patterson the 4 star wr that called UCF a paradise. The list of committed is growing and we are at the top of the list of several highly touted recruits, the grass is certainly becoming greener.

Four-star prospect Jamal Patterson is one of the most coveted receivers in the nation. This McDonough (Ga.) Henry County High School star has teams from coast to coast after him, with his offer count over three dozen.
“I have 40 offers right now,” Patterson said. “LSU, Arkansas and Oregon have been the most recent offers while Troy was the first oral offer and Central Florida was the first written offer.
“Right now, I am just wide open. I am looking to bond with the coaches and players. I am looking for a family atmosphere. I also want to get on the field and want the opportunity to compete. Of course, academics are first and foremost. That’s why you go to college.”
Patterson has been active on the (unofficial) visit front, seeing Wake Forest, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, Central Florida, Alabama and others. He is planning on visiting Auburn, Southern Cal and Stanford during the summer.
“This can never get old. It’s great that all of these teams are showing this kind of interest. All of these visits I have been on have been very impressive. I mean every one has been a really nice visit. But if there is one that stood out I would say it was Central Florida. The facilities and environment there was just awesome.”
Patterson, 6-3 and 200 pounds, caught 43 passes for 933 yards and 11 scores last season as a junior. He was one of several junior standouts that led Henry County on a ten game winning streak. They eventually lost in the second round of the playoffs. Henry County should be one of the state’s top teams this fall led by Patterson, quarterback Drew Little, athlete Quan Jones, defensive end/tight end Dustin Kelly, cornerback Keith Wright, and tight end Jim Teknipp. They are all rising seniors and being recruited. Last season both Patterson and Little made all-state. Little threw for over 3,500 yards and 40 plus touchdowns (only five interceptions).
“We are all working so hard. This is our senior year, our last year. We have a state championship on our minds.”
