Has anyone else noticed the early polls quickly turning on Georgia?  At the end of last season it was all, "Georgia looks to be a pre-season #1"but now everyone is all "well, Georgia's schedule is just too tough..."  The media knows they sway votes so why are they putting Georgia down in the polls based on a tough schedule alone???  They haven't played a game yet!  If the media believes talent-wise that Georgia should be #1, put em #1 in your early polls.  Now normally I wouldn't complain about these early polls but as we saw last year, the media sways A LOT of votes and we will need all the help we can get.  If I see another media analyst put the Suckeyes at #1I just may unsubscribe from CBSSportsline and any other sports media outlet.

UGAFan618, you and all the other UGA fans know as well as I do that the media is the Suckeyes' and the Condoms' bitch. Pretty much every media outlet, *especially* ESPN (and a big middle finger to you, Mark May and Lou Holtz) runs down Georgia like crazy, and when we beat the living hell out of some 2nd tier school we were picked to lose against (Hawaii, OSU, Boise) they still come up with excuses as to why we didn't lose. So really, this isn't gonna end unless we win the Nat'l championship 2-3 years in a row.

First of all, I totally agree with the original message of this thread.  The inconsistency of the national media and more importantly the voters is unacceptable.  At the risk of being repetitive, the precedent that these guys are setting right now is that these preseason rankings, which do matter because they determine your starting position, is a dangerous one.
These voters are more worried about looking good in the end by predicting the way teams will finish the season than they are concerned with having an opinion on good the teams actually are.  This is the BS of the bcs sneaking into other aspects of the sport.  The overall quality of the teams being fielded is of no consequence in the BCS because in the end everything is based on politics and scheduling.  Since it doesn't matter how good a team is in this system the voters have stopped making it their main criteria in voting.
Even though it SCREWED the Dawgs last year, I was happy to see voters actually voting based on their opinions in the last week of the season and not just sliding people up the rankings as others lose.
Secondly, I totally agree with you about Mark May and Lou Holtz.  Mark May in particular has had it out for the Dawgs since I started following them in 2000.  Every chance he gets, the guy takes a shot at the Dawgs or makes some excuse for the team they beat.  I'm wondering if the other analysts are gonna give him some crap when the Dawgs are the last team standing this year.  I don't mind Holtz as much because half the time I can't understand what he is saying and even then he usually doesn't make sense.  There has to be a better analyst out there.  Get Bob Knight.  He would be great for football commentary.

They do this every year. The voters try to predict the outcome versus ranking the teams by strenght. A couple of years ago it was West Virginia who got all the love not because they were great but everyone expected them to go undeafeated against a weak schedule. Just win and it will all sort out. A little early to complain about the polls, just need to be #2 at the end.

I hope we aren't preseason #1; I would rather be #2, but I'm a supersticious freak.

I do agree with the previous points regarding the faulty reasoning though.  I thought we were supposed to rank teams based on their ability and talent level, not on their odds to finish unscathed.

Matt Dienhart tends to show love for the Dawgs.  When you feel like there's too much bashing on Richt's boys by the media, find some of Dienhart's stuff.  He knows how to pour on the Bulldog love.

Guys we dont deserve the #1 spot and neither do the buckeyes. If anything we deserve the #2 spot because in reality LSU as much as I hate them should be #1. They won the National Title so they are the ones to beat. We will work our way up there especially when we go to LSU'S house and beat them. So lets just wait it out and take what we get.
