THis is some bullshit....are our coaches really that naive in not letting the QB call his own shots. Whether it be CUlpepper or McClown. THis is some garbage. The best players of all time called their own plays...Dan Marino, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Kenny STabler, Mike Vick, Fran Tarkenton, and Joe Monatana.

Im not saying JR needs to call of his own plays, but he needs to be able to adapt to the game...and audibles and sometimes calling your own plays shows leadership and confidence.

Not sure what video you were watching that one said nothing but to answer your question, not many QB's call the play unless it's a 2:00 drill. Most plays are called from the side and a QB can check out if he reads the D. Gruden and gannon were great at that. In Kiffins case he brought in a whole new system with 3 new QB's. I believe he just wanted to make the called plays work. With McCown, Culpepper and Russell all playing the Raiders as a team would have to adjust to 3 different styles. Kiffin just wanted them to run the play. With Russell becoming the guy now I bet you see him take a more leadership role and make changes at the line. All of this takes time to learn at the pro level.

technically, IMO Peyton doesn't really call his own plays - he is given two plays from the sideline and chooses when he gets to the line which he can run.... so I guess he does call the plays...

as for our QBs calling their own plays...... McClown and Culpepper could barely execute the plays let alone call plays....

difference is Favre, Marino, etc.... were great QBs and earned that right to call plays.... Culpepper-McClown.... nope didn't earn the right.... maybe, in a few years JRock will call his own plays but first he has to know the offense inside out and that is not the case at present....

It has been a long time since QBs have called the plays. The plays are either called in by the OC or the HC.

Peyton Manning does not call the plays. Tom Moore calls the plays but they have a special way of doing it. Moore gives Peyton 3 plays, 2 runs and a pass. Peyton decides in the huddle which play is going to happen and he also gets the liberty of cauling the audible he chooses. Don't forget the unspoken language he has with Marvin Harrison, he just gives him a look and Marvin does what he does and it's highlight reel time.

Oh and yes I have a slight man-crush on Peyton Manning. Don't worry it's nothing like what I have seen from some of my friends who have ridiculous amounts of gay love for Tom Brady.

Whoa there...  I'm reading all of these names and then Vick pops up!?  First off, not even close to the "best players of all time" and next up I don't remember him calling his own plays.  He may have had the option to tuck it and run when it was open, but as for actually calling the plays without input from the headset I doubt it.
