Did anyone think Francona wouldn't bring the Yankee manager to this one? LOL

Surprised Torre got the shaft on the NL side. He really should be there.

From MLB:

American League All-Star manager Terry Francona of the Boston Red Sox and National League All-Star manager Clint Hurdle of the Colorado Rockies have announced the managers who will serve as their coaches at the 79th All-Star Game, to be played on Tuesday, July 15th at Yankee Stadium.

Francona has invited Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland and New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi to serve as the A.L. coaches.

Francona’s Boston coaching staff – first base coach Luis Alicea, pitching coach John Farrell, third base coach DeMarlo Hale, hitting coach Dave Magadan, bench coach Brad Mills and bullpen coach Gary Tuck – will assist with batting practice and other field duties.

Hurdle has asked New York Mets manager Willie Randolph and San Diego Padres manager Bud Black to join him as the N.L. coaches.

The Colorado coaching staff – pitching coach Bob Apodaca, hitting coach Alan Cockrell, third base/infield coach Mike Gallego, first base coach Glenallen Hill, bullpen coach Rick Mathews and bench coach Jamie Quirk – will serve on the manager’s staff.

The 79th Major League Baseball All-Star Game, being held at Yankee Stadium in its final season, will be televised nationally by FOX Sports, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and Sportsnet HD and televised around the world by Major League Baseball International, with pregame ceremonies beginning at 8:00 p.m.

Defnitely another year for the AL to win the All-star game and host the World Series. Can see it now.

Clint - " Hey willie who sould we bring in to this 8th inning to face the heart of the AL lineup up only 1 run"

Willie - " I have the perfect guy Clint. I have all theconfidence in the world in this guy"

Clint - " who willie?"

Willie - " Well he isn't on the roster, but maybe we can disguise him with another jersey?"

Clint -"Ok who then?"

Willie - " Come on clint, didn't you know it has to be Aaron Heilman"

Clint - "Willie, the Rockies aren't makign the playoffs this year, so why not let the AL h ave homefield advantage?"

Willie - "Sounds good. Go get em Aaron!"

...well.....im sure its not that important other than a nice trip to new york with the family....and girardi and randolph are obvious choices.....but its interesting that no managers of first place teams got the other invites....no scioscia or even the bob geren who's doing well in the resurgence of the a's....or how about joe maddon....leading the AL east should get your a trip to the apple.....

LOL...That's some good stuff.

Look at the bright side...at least the Marlins players on the team won't cost the NL by making any errors because there are no errors on BBs and HRs.

If this was in one of the Florida parks, I would be on fire if either Florida manager was not on the team.

....hence my statement before this one where i stated that girardi and randolph were the obvious choices...but one of the OTHER invites could have gone to a first place manager.....

I believe Jim Leyland invited Terry Francona to be on the staff in 2007 so he is just repaying the favor. Records really have nothing to do with anything usually the local manager ( in this case managers ) are invited and managers that  the pennant  winning manager chooses to take.
