Astros have slipped into 2nd place in the NL Central 1/2 game over the Cardinals, and just 1 1/2 games behind the Cubs. The Astros are convincing me that they are in fact contenders in the Central. They have played the most road games in the majors, but have still managed a 24-18 record. They have positioned themselves so that once they start to play a few more games at home they can make a move for first place.

Your team comes from what could turn out to be the worst division in the league and you talk about the NL Central?? Your Sox are playing .500 ball yet remain only 1 1/2 games out of first and you think the NL Central is bad?? Maybe when the Sox get ABOVE .500 you can talk about another division.

An AL Central fan talking down on the NL Central? Please. Look at your own division first.

AL Central total record 97-105   .480 winning percentage

NL Central 131-118   .526 winning percentage

NL central- 3 top 5 offenses without the DH

AL Central- 0 top 5 offenses with the DH

Man could you NL fans be any more prissy.

So  a W. Sox fan makes a comment about the NL Central being weak, why can't you stay on subject and comment on that. (Because it is very true.)

Why do you automatically fire back about the AL Central?

NL Central 131-118   .526 winning percentage

Let's talk in late July.

I'll...try...to...keep...it....simple...for...you...:

More competitive teams in the AL will reduce the win totals.

NL central- 3 top 5 offenses without the DH

AL Central- 0 top 5 offenses with the DH

Again, better pitching will lead to lower offensive statistics.

More competitive teams in the AL than NL?  Are you serious?

We are speaking this year correct?

Oh, so if I point out that three of the top 5 offenses in all of MLB are in the central that is not a comment about the strength of the Central? Mentioning that as a division they are playing above .500 ball is not commenting on the NL central? I just included the AL Central as a point of reference for our White Sox fan to compare.

Going into the season I thought that the NL Central was relatively weak too, but the Cardinals, Pirates, and Astros have all outperformed my expectations. That along with the Cubs doing well as expected means that the NL Central is a solid, competitive division. Is it the best in the bigs? No. Is it better than the AL Central? In my opinion, yes.

Let's talk in late July.

I'll be happy to.

Ok, now don't try and pull this one White Sox, seriously. You AL fans just can't give the NL any credit. What are you gonna say next? Chipper is doing steroids and the only reason he is batting above .400 is because the pitching in the NL sucks?! Can you just give credit where credit is due and be humble for once?

Oh, and I wouldn't exactly consider a broke Tiger team and the Royals "more competitive". You should just go with all the Yankees fans and try and say that the only reason you have a bad record is because the AL is strong, not because your team is bad.

Really, goatboy?  The NL central has more wins than any other division in the bigs.  Sooo weak.  Try again.  Numbers don't lie.  Maybe some of you Southsiders should take off your shoes to help you count.  And please don't try to tell me the pitching is better in the AL, whitesoxxxxxx.  AL pitchers have a whole 0.43 better era than NL pitchers.  Sooo dominant.  The offense (and defense for that matter) in the AL are just inferior compared to the NL.  It's called sports knowledge, fellas.  You should try and get some before you post next time.

Cause they haven't won an All-Star game in a decade.

No. Chip-Chip is a very good hitter. It's no surprise he is dominate.

So now the All-star game is the way we evaluate league talent? What a joke! It's an exhibition game in which the fans vote in their favorite players. It is not a good way to compare the leagues and you know that.

How did this thread turn from talking about the Astros chances to make the playoffs into about of Junior Circuit fans trying to justify their league not meeting expectations this year?

Over the last 3 years the AL central has been thought of as the toughest division in all of baseball and the NL central the weakest, so lets not go off 40 games please. Once Detroit comes around the AL central will still have a strong shot at having 3 or 4 teams with winning records and have represented the AL in the WS in 2 of the last 3. NL is weaker just look at the Rockies winning like 20 straight and then getting swept win they had to play the AL champs in the WS.

And the "weak" NL central has represented the NL in the world series three out of the past four years. What's your point?
