Who ever voted for the Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows should stare at some nudey mags for a little while and then run directly into a brick wall.

That way we know the "bad taste in music" gene will not be passed on to future generations.

The Black Crows are one of the last real rock bands. They don't fall into some subgenre. They're just rock and they're pretty good at it.

By the Way The Otis Redding classic "hard To Handle" is from the 60'2 Deuche.

Right on Red Hessian...The Black Crowes-"The Most Rock'n'Roll rock n roll band in the world".

IndCharger,

Watch yourself, BOY!  You're right.  I'm such a little kid that I know "Hard to Handle" is a cover by Otis Redding because most children know who Otis Redding is.  Most people don't even realize that song is a cover.  They think it's a Black Crowes original.

Everyone else on the list had huge hits and most don't consider Nirvana, Pearl Jam and RHCP to be corporate sellouts , at least in the 90's. so you lose that argument.  They were innovators.

I'm a huge rock fan of everything from the Beatles to Pantera, from the Grateful Dead to Hatebreed (you probably don't even know who they are, punk), from Dashboard Conffesional to At The Drive In.  Once again, when looking at the best Rock bands of the 90's, the Black Crowes don't belong on the list.

Don't ever compare the Black Crowes to the Dead.  Their not even close.  The Dead are the greatest jam band of all time while the Black Crowes just suck.

Rage Against the Machine belongs on the list.

Chris Robinson is a huge Deadhead, though.

Personally, the best Hard to Handle I've heard was either by Toots and the Maytals or when Pigpen would do his thing for the Dead.

Crap, I didn't see Pantera until after I clicked Nirvana, but regardless, I wouldn't include Pantera in this group.  Pantera was metal, whereas the rest are/were hard rock.

You have to vote Nirvana here though, they are responsible for the new resurgence of metal, but not that metal is based off their sound. Rather, they were the first band to come out with a Rock album that wasn't "hair-bandesque", which is what the rock music scene had degraded to by the end of the 80's.... The rest of the bands you listed just followed suit. Nirvana was an invaluable band to metal fans, because they helped re-invent the genre.

As said above, beaver, Nirvana was by no means the first band that came "out with a Rock album that wasn't "hair-bandesque". They just brouoght it into your living room. The 80's hair stuff was bad, but it wasn't the only choice. It was just the crap they put on the radio. Jane's Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sonic Youth, the Melvins, Neil Young (yes, Neil Young) were all around in the mid 80s or before. A lot of Nirvana's early stuff wanted to be like Social D and the Dead Kennedys as well. Very punk.
